What is a capsule makeup collection?
A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.
Why have a capsule makeup collection?
Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions. Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.
Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me. If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.
What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?
No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.
@CynthieLu, Clarins Lip Perfector is an underrated product; it wears beautifully. Ahhh, ND Gold Palette 1.0 - Python is a stunner!
Thank you kindly @itsfi. 💛 I was actually very close to getting my hands on Gold 1.O before it left our shelves but I missed out. I think Sunset makes a good consolation imo. It has beautiful golds, coppers and bronzes. ☺️
The new Gold palette I'm telling myself I don't need. Must. Stay. Strong. 😅
Ah! @CynthieLu I adore that pallete (I don’t own it it’s just so beautiful definatley sunset vibes) amazing week capsule collection always so great to see your picks 🫶
Thank you so much @peculiarzmakeup I feel the same, I adore so many palettes, many I don't own, I just admire them from afar. Lol. 😊
Last year when they were removing ND from all the Canadian stores they put all her palette's on clearance, I was very lucky to get this one on a fantastic sale.
Sunset is probably my fave palette of all time @CynthieLu , compared to some of her later palettes, there's no similar colors. This is good stuff 👍🏽 👍🏽
I agree @danielledanielle Sunset has some really fun ones in there. 🔥🧡
It really does console me, for not owning the original Gold or the new one. I think the new Gold looks *beautiful* but I'm not going in on it, at least right now anyways. 😉
Week 25 - The "Welcome, Summer!" Makeup Capsule and/or The "Good Stuff" Makeup Capsule
To "welcome summer", I've decided to pull out and use the "good stuff", for this week's looks a la Dior. I also plan to incorporate more of the good stuff in future capsules as well throughout the summer (and hopefully beyond), though they probably won't be focused on one brand, even though it is a fun & fabulous idea (and one that will be come up in another future theme this year) - thanks again to @Mellmars1185 for suggesting it!
Without further ado, the good stuff for this week:
There are a few products that are missing from this photo that I plan to use in a few looks this week, but for the most part, these will be the beauties I reach for most mornings. 😍
And they all fit inside this lovely makeup bag.
Which was part of Dior's rewards program (brushes included) that I received last year. I've taken part in Dior's rewards program for probably 3 (maybe 4) years now and have accumulated quite a few Dior beauties - they've gotten better and better every year! 💗
@itsfi glad to see I'm not the only one with 3 shades of the Maximizer lol
@danielledanielle next, maximizer bronzer shades please
@makeitup305 ,😂 I think it's the same as @itsfi
DIOR Forever Glow Maximizer Longwear Liquid Highlighter 017 Nude
DIOR Forever Glow Maximizer Longwear Liquid Highlighter 016 Bronze
DIOR Forever Glow Maximizer Longwear Liquid Highlighter 014 Rosy
And for star filters, DIOR Forever Glow Star Filter Multi-Use Complexion Enhancing Booster 4N and DIOR Forever Glow Star Filter Multi-Use Complexion Enhancing Booster 6N
The deeper ones lean orange IMO, I think I mentioned this to @CynthieLu , so def swatch to see if it works with your undertone. 4N leans more yellow/neutral. 5N probably would be better for me as a bronzer, I keep meaning to wear test a sample. I am happy to open up a sample pack and swatch them, just let me know.
@danielledanielle I swatched 4N the other day and do think it leans a little warmer, maybe peachier, than I would prefer. I could probably make it work but it's not worth it, considering I already have the Mario and the Saie. I would love it if they came out with bronzer shades in this formula.
@danielledanielle, we're twinning it with the liquid highlighters. 😊 I've been meaning to play more with blending and diffusing them.
Get in on the Glazed Cheeks Cheek Week! @itsfi
Ohhh, am I actually doing something on the week it's supposed to be done? That's like a modern miracle @danielledanielle. Going to take a peek atCheek Challenge Summer 2024: Choose Your Own Adventure and am making a note to take pics of swatches.
Lol @makeitup305, I remember picking up the Rosy one; the other two? Not so much. Hahaha! Which 3 colors do you have?
@itsfi I have Pearly, Pink, and Nude. The blusher shades reminded me of the CT wands that I never use so zi chose just highlighting shades. I love them, though.
@makeitup305, the pink one would probably be the last one I pick up IF I were to pick up another one. IF. 😆 I might (a big might) go for the Star Filter in 3N & 4N as you mentioned. We’ll see. I’ve sorta been less inclined to do knee jerk or more impulsive purchases since this no-buy. But those are pretty.
I have 2N and I love the idea of using deeper hues of star filter @itsfi @makeitup305 but I don't know if I can justify that type of purchase 🫣.. but using them to bronze or as contour, that is interesting and intriguing. 😉 This is some good food for thought.
@CynthieLu it's definitely quite the splurge. A10x Ulta multiplier made me do it lol I need to get a sample of 4N and try it as bronzer, either on top or for underpainting.
