CURRENT MAKEUP CAPSULE THEME:
Week 38 - (September 16 - 22) - The LatinX Founded / Owned Beauty Brands Makeup Capsule - LatinX Heritage Month is celebrated annually in the US from September 15 to October 15. As one way to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic and Latin Americans in the beauty industry, let's put together a capsule that includes one or more products from a LatinX owned or founded beauty brand. See spoiler below for a non-exhaustive list.
Upcoming Makeup Capsule Themes: [Updated 9.16.2024] Take a sneak peek at the weekly themes to come.
Multiple themes this week. You know the drill with the first prompt - curate a capsule with one or more beauty products that you want to compare against each other in a battle to see which reigns supreme; or that is a throw back to a different era (80's makeup, anyone? 90s? 2000s?, etc. ). OR, throw back to a past makeup capsule theme in a Do Over / Take 2. OR, put some products on the chopping block to see if they're keepers in your stash or if it's time to throw them out.

FAQs: [Updated 4.28.2024]
What is a capsule makeup collection?
A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.
Why have a capsule makeup collection?
Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions. Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.
Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me. If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.
What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?
No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.
Oooh noooo I'm so sorry to hear they dried up on you @blackkitty2014 😭 I feel like cream anything is a gamble on how long they'll stand up to the test of time.
You really pulled together absolutely beautiful items for your capsule this week, Your collection is gorgeous! 😍
Oh no @blackkitty2014! Both the Tom Ford and Westman Atelier shadows dried up?!! Grrr! I have that WA trio set and I'm really hoping mine are still good. Or, maybe it means it'll be easier to let 'em go if they're too dry to make use of. 😂 I'm don't know if I'm up for checking right now. Ha! Your Westman Atelier collection is magnificient! 😍
Ahhhhh, YSL Stora Dolls! What a gorgeous, gorgeous palette. I'm so happy to see it in your capsule; gotta use what we have.
Zero need to apologize, blackkitty2014; I'm just so happy you're working through your capsule with us. 😘 I love seeing the beauties in your collection - I've always been impressed and inspired by your use of your beauties, and your restraint (and sometimes, lack thereof 😁) to pick up all the new releases.
One of the choices for a theme next week is "the good stuff" - I hope you are able to join us; I'm super excited to see which of your treats make it into the week's capsule.
Hehehe @itsfi @lack of restraint is truly me. I’m so bad. If I like a line from a brand I tend to hoard everything. Im thinking about bringing some TF cream eyeshadows and Sisley cheeks for next week. 😘 I will definitely join the week after. I’m sure I have lots of products need to be on the chopping block 😘
Ooouh, Sisley cheeks??!! 😍 I only have a couple of the Sisley cheek products, that pretty one with the Iris? design. As I say that I wonder if I’ve even used it. 🤔
Yeah, I need to be better about hoarding. On the one hand, I bought it and therefore should use it (I don’t buy to collect so I do feel a certain need to use what I buy) but that’s easier said than done. The hoarding is real.
@blackkitty2014 Total bummer about the shadows drying out. I should check some of my TF cream shadows. I don't think I've used them in a loooooong time. On the other hand, at least you now know that they're done and they aren't taking up space anymore.
Yes it’s true @missjeanie . This is also good to remind me not to get too many makeup because they will eventually go bad before I can use them all. I actually need to join these challenges to clean thing out. I tend to delay going thru and toss out old or unused makeup
@blackkitty2014 I'm horrible for that too. I'm trying to use the challenges to force me to test out some of my older products that I've left to sit for ... way too long. Most still seem okay so far, but I need to figure out a way to let some go just to control my stash.
RECAP - Week 24 The Multi-tasking Makeup Capsule: Faves & Fails Edition
There were no declutters or fails with this week's capsules, so we're holding at 6 declutters for the month, so far.
I put together a more minimalist makeup capsule from the most liked products from this week's capsule, for use over the weekend. I'll call it the quick & easy bronzy edit - just a few more products than my most minimalist look from the week. @caitbird, working with some larger capsules during the week made it easier to come up with a more simple capsule for the weekend. During the weekdays, I found myself thinking "oh this would/could work nicely for a quick & easy look" and making a note to myself to include it in a capsule.
☕ Sephora Collection Caffeine Eye Masks (discontinued) help to brighten my under eye area which in turn makes my peepers look more awake and alert. We're gonna need that today.
😎 Etude Sunprise Mild Airy Finish SPF 50+PA+++ - this typically acts as a sunblock, primer and my go-to mixer with the Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi™ Bronzing Drops with Peptides. Today, it'll just be my sunblock and primer, as I am going to try out the combinatin of the the D-Bronzi with the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops Serum, a pairing I first heard about in one of the beautiful looks @Mellmars1185 posted.
👁 For the eyes, I'm going the minimalist route this weekend, with the Makeup by Mario Master Mattes Brightening Pencil - Light 1 (discontinued) to line the lower waterline and the SEPHORA COLLECTION Love The Lift Curling + Volumizing Waterproof Mascara Ultra Black # after curling my lashes with theShiseido Eyelash Curler
🌺 minori Cream Blush (orchid) is doubling as a blush and lippie. This week was the first time I've used this product (I received it as a gift from a very thoughtful friend) and I'm very pleased with it. My lips have been on the drier of side lately so I'll be either prepping my lips with CAY SKIN Isle Lip Balm SPF 30 with Sea Moss and Aloe Stem Cells Clear before or after; or, maybe both.
🌅 Also playing a multi-tasking role is the MAKEUP BY MARIO SoftSculpt Transforming Skin Enhancer® which will serve as an all over bronze to set everything. And, if I'm feeling like putting in a little more effort into my weekend face, I may also use it for a wash of color on my lids or with a heavier hand as a contour just below my jawline. In that case, I may reach for the Medium shade (gratis); Light-Medium is pictured.
Wait, what about the "fits" as @danielledanielle says? That's going well, too!
The sun is out in the city with just a light breeze (instead of the gusts of wind that caused power outages for some in my neighborhood) so I'm going to enjoy the weather after putting these beauties to work. Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!
@itsfi Great theme for the week! I hope you had a lovely day outdoors with your quick and easy bronzy look 💖🌞
@Mellmars1185, thank you. It's been great to have things all lined up and ready to go.
Love it @itsfi , sounds like a wonderfully simple summer look!
Thanks @missjeanie. I love having this all ready, whether actually all ready in a makeup bag like here or even just the pic so I know what the quick & easy makeup items look like - less thinking about what to put on my face = more time in the morning = greater likelihood I can enjoy my morning coffee and not have to just take it with me for my commute. That's not to say that there wouldn't also be a cup for my commute, maybe my second though. Ha!
@itsfi Oh I completely agree... rushing around in the morning looking for things is a hard no. Coffee is a much better use of time!
Ha! So true @missjeanie! For my larger capsules, it’s nice too to have options that have been preselected as well. 👍🏼 Less guesswork that early in the morning helps.
You too! @itsfi Enjoy your weekend! Hopefully it's sunny and less breezy for you tomorrow as well. 😀🩷
You've got it all fit in again, that is satisfying to see. A simple capsule full of winners for the weekend sounds like it will be a treat.
@CynthieLu, thank you. Today was great; the sun stayed out the entire time, not a grey cloud in the sky; and just the right amount of breeze to keep it from being too hot or stale. Having a simpler capsule has been a nice back up plan for those days when time isn't on my side when it comes to getting ready and out the door!
I think that sounds beautiful 🤩 @itsfi I love a sunny day and cool breeze too keep it from feeling to hot. 💙
Okay, maybe not everywhere! But on this Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge, yes!! Capsule themes through the month of July have been included in the original post. You'll see that the prompt for the last week of July is slightly different than what we've had for previous months. We'll see how this one works out through ... maybe, September?!
@itsfi Loving the new themes! I'm finally in a bit of a summer mode here so I'm happy to have some themes along those lines! Also super excited for sticks and stones week! I'm pretty sure... there may only be one category I don't have a stick for!
Hahahaha @missjeanie! As I've been sorting through my stash this week (some for next week's capsule, some for taking stock of what I have and what I should use or declutter), I've been pulling out the sticks I come across and placing them in a makeup bag and, ummmm.... "fits" is already looking like it's gonna be challenging 😬 I'm so with you on the sticks for most, if not all, categories. Looks like I'm going to have to get creative and clever with my wording or thought process to get a stick into every category. Challenge accepted though. 😉
