CURRENT MAKEUP CAPSULE THEME:
Week 38 - (September 16 - 22) - The LatinX Founded / Owned Beauty Brands Makeup Capsule - LatinX Heritage Month is celebrated annually in the US from September 15 to October 15. As one way to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic and Latin Americans in the beauty industry, let's put together a capsule that includes one or more products from a LatinX owned or founded beauty brand. See spoiler below for a non-exhaustive list.
Upcoming Makeup Capsule Themes: [Updated 9.16.2024] Take a sneak peek at the weekly themes to come.
Multiple themes this week. You know the drill with the first prompt - curate a capsule with one or more beauty products that you want to compare against each other in a battle to see which reigns supreme; or that is a throw back to a different era (80's makeup, anyone? 90s? 2000s?, etc. ). OR, throw back to a past makeup capsule theme in a Do Over / Take 2. OR, put some products on the chopping block to see if they're keepers in your stash or if it's time to throw them out.
Previous Makeup Capsule Themes: [Updated 9.16.2024]
FAQs: [Updated 4.28.2024]
What is a capsule makeup collection?
A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.
Why have a capsule makeup collection?
Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions. Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.
Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me. If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.
What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?
No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.
@CynthieLu, it seems like it's a game of Tetris for my small-to-medium sized makeup bags. 🤣 I have smaller bags for my minimal makeup capsules, and some very roomy ones when I go with a more inclusive makeup capsule; the in-between capsules are a little harder to find the perfect bags to use. I'm working very hard on not taking that as a cue to pick up more makeup bags in that size category. 😝
Yeah, the Tom Ford sales that Sephora has on occasion can be quite fabulous. His beauties are a pretty penny at regular price so the 50% is great. I've had this foundation in one shade or another since it launched, which I *think* may go back to spring/summer 2020 (?), though that one could have been a reformulation. I recall picking up my first Tom Ford foundation and it was in a similar tube, from Neiman Marcus, before I recall Sephora started carrying TF. I know that @blackkitty2014 has gone through and used up his foundations before, perhaps even this one. The Sephora mark down on this foundation and his foundation stick may be to make room for his new foundation, Architecture - a soft blur formulation. I've heard it's a nice one for those with oily skin.
@itsfi I greatly appreciated your list of brands that are founded/owned by members of the LGBTQ+ community. 🙏 There are so many brands that I own but I just never knew much about thier makers. It was wonderful to realize I had a few items in my stash that could work in this week's celebration style capsule. 💖🎉

Danessa Myricks Beauty Love is Love All Over Face Palette by DM. It's the name, it's the thought I believe is behind the release. ( I hope this is a in its true spirit made to celebrate and not a cash grab)
@CynthieLu, I love that you picked love is love! It fits the theme so well, and also you're own sense/use of color. Solid capsule!
(I swore I posted this already.... But, apparently I didn't)
Thank you 🙏 Definitely een there, disappeared posts are real lol. @danielledanielle 😅 I think sometimes I type them out but then don't hit post properly. Like I'm multitasking and *poof* gone.
@CynthieLu I get the concern about cash grabs. I wonder this every time I see the LE packaging and products. I'm hopeful the DM is a solid choice too. Looks like what is solid will be your looks for the week!! Great combo of products!
Thank you @missjeanie It was a fun week with these. 😀
( DM did say on IG a portion of sales of this palette were being donated)
@CynthieLu, this is a beautiful capsule 😃 and on point with the theme - you just need one product. And that DM palette is an excellent fit for the week’s prompt. Love the lipstick options!! Must have options, right?!!
Thank you! I was happy to have the DM palette be a part of this challenge for the week, it does seem to fit right in.
And yes definitely gotta love a little variety, especially in lippies. 😉 @itsfi
I'm attempting to hold onto my beautylish creds for the next GC sale for the "sale on sale hat trick," if you will @itsfi . The number 7 and the blender ?9) are on my wishlist.
Hoping your brushes show. They also for go aesthetically, especially against the sunny yellow of the Beekman's water bottle, with everything
@danielledanielle, I ordered individual brushes this time, including the no. 7. I don’t think 9 was in this order but depending on how these first few perform, I may slowly build my collection - so while my makeup collection is being whittled down, my brush collection is in a constant state of growth. Strategic growth and diversification. lol.
Good call on holding onto Beautylish credits. I’m aiming to keep mine for the LNY 2025 brush (that I’ve just assumed they will have because why would we not keep the Chinese zodiac family together?) 😆 In large part because I’m contemplating a no buy for early next year. I know, I know. That’s months away and I should be focusing on my current no buy, of which I’m on Day 3 and going strong strong-ish … ummmm … going. Yes, going. 🙄😝
Amazing capsule! @itsfi I always learn so much reading your posts and explanations. I didn't realize HOF had that timeline, it makes good sense to have those differences between 🐐 and HG thou, it's a better distinction.
You've got everything covered for your capsule and it looks like everything is on theme with plenty of options, and yes we do like our options. 😊
@CynthieLu, we love our options. 😝 Yeah, I think for InStyle to provide a product with its Hall of Fame designation a product would have had to have been selected as tops in its category for at least 2 years but I thought it was a higher standard, like 4 consecutive years. I’ll have to try to look it up when I have more time. It makes sense. I mirrored GOAT designation on a product performing well not just after a few uses but going through at least 2 containers of that product.
I kinda thought it was more of a personal standing so this makes so much more sense @itsfi. To me GOAT would be similar, many repurchases and consistent good results. HOF thou, years makes sense and not many things make it that far for me 😅 I think I need to currate my collection better soon I can get have a few in these ranks. ✨
Week 22 - Love is Love. (I think I finally got one right, yusss)
I included Danessa and Natasha because I really feel like using MyDream palette, and Danessa's screams color, which is perfect for this month
It's a great travel case, but not an everyday case🤷🏽♀️, which is what it was marketed as.

You have so many great items in your capsule @danielledanielle, I could make future shopping list just by being inspired from everything I read through the capsules and posts everyone is sharing. 📒 🖋️
I can see this being a fun to use selection, ND's My Dream specifically is so beautiful to wear. 👌 Do you own her mini dream?
@CynthieLu . Thanks 🥰
Natasha Denona My Dream Eyeshadow Palette IMO is one of her best palettes. I know Natasha Denona Glam Eyeshadow Palette and Natasha Denona I Need a Nude Eyeshadow Palette are heavies/favorites as far as everyday wear, but My Dream can do that and then some 🙌🏽
On the flipside, I don't own mini dream or mini starlette. It's not something I think that would work on me.. It's pretty muted, so I would have to use other shadows to get it to show up on my skin tone. I love ND, as you know, but there's a few palettes I've passed on for similar reasons.
I think your feelings on Starlette I've heard mirrored other places as well. Colors that don't work for everyone and don't pop out stand out as special. I was curious about mini Dream to see if anyone thought it was worth it, especially if you have the full-size already. I appreciate you weighing in on it 🙏 @danielledanielle
So many goodies in your capsule @danielledanielle! Love that NARS eyeshadow primer 🐐 - I am curious about the one Melt will be releasing (or maybe it's already come out?) but I have 3 eyeshadow primers open and have no business picking up another one for a while.
Ahhh, the ND powder foundation. That's on my list, but I probably won't get close to picking it up until the fall sale event.
The ND powder foundation is pretty good @itsfi . The annoying thing about it is finding it in store. And kickback with a brush is a little much, but it's got that melty into skin feel.
Yes at the melt primers! I wish Nars would bring back theirs NARS Pro-Prime™ Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Dark , so I could keep one open at a time, too 🤣 I have two primers open; I like a skin tone one for liner days only. (Ok, technically three if we countPAT McGRATH LABS IntensifEYES Artistry Wand .)
Maybe we don’t count the PML artistry wand as a primer @danielledanielle? 😆
oh, I do like that ND Dream bag; I haven’t tried seeing how much I can squeeze in there but it holds a good amount of product for me.
