Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Hello, BIC Beauties! If the idea of makeup capsules piques your curiosity, or you're interested in seeing what's in the beauty collection or weekly makeup bag of your fellow BIC beauties, jump right on in - with questions, comments or a capsule of your own to share.

To add a fun take on putting together a makeup capsule, I've included theme(s) for the weekly capsule - some weeks, I have enough products in my stash (eek!) to make a whole capsule based on the prompt; other weeks, I have just one or two items that fit neatly within theme.

Week 49 (December 2 - 😎 - The Beautifully Bold or Delightfully Demure Makeup Capsule and/or The "Savvy Shopper" Makeup Capsule - The "Beautifully Bold or Delightfully Demure" Makeup Capsule prompt was inspired by a comment by the mom of our marvelous @caitbird. Mama caitbird is a gem - bringing broken mugs back to life, making delicious meals and treat. She's a superwoman and it just made me laugh heartily when caitbird shared about an occasion when her mom gave her major side-eye over one of caitbird's stunningly vibrant and beautiful makeup looks of the day.

Curate a capsule with the one or more products you use for a beautifully bold or delightfully demure look. Or, a capsule with a mix of these two looks. Also, for this theme, you may want to consider a tie-in with Cheek Challenge Winter 2024/25, The Frost, The Glitz and The Wardrobe for a princess / prince - like flush of color.

Discover a loved product from the Sephora sales event? Or, did a holiday savings event item just find its way to your front door? Were there beauties too good to pass up during the Black Friday, Green Friday, Small Business Saturday,  Cyber Monday, or general holiday sales? What is a capsule makeup collection?  

A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.  

Why have a capsule makeup collection?  

Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions.  Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.

Why weekly? 
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me.  If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.

What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?

No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.

You know what else looks great?! How much of the Sephora Collection Best Skin Ever Foundation you've worked your way through - that's awesome. And, impressive. 🙌

@itsfi I purchased that about a year ago. I might need to replace it pretty soon. It saw zero use during the summer since I get significantly darker. Otherwise, I might have panned it by now. 

The lighting was directly behind me on the wall, which made for perfect lighting conditions. It actually took a bit of research and trial and error to find just the right bulbs for every room in our home.

@JoSometimes, do you think you’ll repurchase the SC foundation? Either in your summer shade or the shade you currently have? Or both?

@itsfi I do have the SC foundation in my summer shade. It’s a good daily foundation and a safe choice for sensitive skin. According to a friend who used to work at Sephora it was formulated with skincare in mind. 

Part of me wants to branch out and try new things that might be even more hydrating but part of me is also satisfied enough to repurchase.

I wasn’t really wearing makeup last week so here I am this week! Quick and easy is my fav! And I need all the hydration! We just got our first snow fall and on Tuesday we have a storm headed our way!

@Mellmars1185  Thanks! Today was -50. Killed one of our cars 😬 tonight is soooo cold but I think it’s warming up! I saw on the news how bad it was where you are. Hopefully you and your family stay safe. And no more snow! Actually if you can send the snow my way I bet the lakes would appreciate it in the spring. We have had little to no rain/snow all fall/winter.

@ather You are one of the few who seem to enjoy the Tower 28 Beauty SuperDew Shimmer-Free Highlight Balm 0.158 oz/ 4.5 g. Do you find it adds something to your look? I wanted to try it but all the reviews seemed to suggest skipping it.

@JoSometimes  For me I find it gives me a glow from within look. I think personally for me I like it. But maybe others feel it isn’t enough if they prefer more sparkle. I will try and snap a pic tomorrow! I had planned on it today but I was super busy and when I thought of it was at lunch during my workout. So probably not the best time!

I wonder though if it is being phased out though; it looks like there's a new concealer being added to their Best Skin Ever collection.

@itsfi SEPHORA COLLECTION Bright Future Gel Serum Under Eye Concealer? I used to have that one and I was so sad when I couldn’t find my shade anymore. I think it is being phased out… 😢 I switched to MAC Cosmetics Studio Fix 24-Hour Smooth Wear Concealer NW32 and it’s ok but I want to try other things.

@itsfi  Yay!!! Oh no! I hope not! Although it gives me an excuse to try others! I have the Tower 28 concealer and the Saie on my list! I tried the best skin ever one but it was more to thick for me I think. Maybe the colour wasn’t a great match also. I’ll have to look into my stash!

@ather, the Tower 28 concealer is nice. I thnk you'll like it. The Best Skin Ever Concealer is on the thick side; for some reason, I think my skin is not liking it of late. ☹️ I do find it applies less heavy when I mix it with a moisturizer or oil, if I'm using it more as a foundation or tint than as a concealer. I saw that there's a new concealer from the Best Skin Ever range - it looks like it will have a lighter consistency and it says it's medium coverage (versus full coverage).

@itsfi  oooo I’m excited to try the Tower 28 one now!! Hmm I’ll have to check out the new version of the best skin ever! I like the consistency of the gel serum one and that it’s an almost perfect match for my skin! I find it hard to properly match my skin colour!!

Yeah @ather, I feel like color match plays a big factor in how much I like a concealer. In my mind, I'm okay (for the most part) with a foundation shade being close or sometimes even with picking up two different shades, but with concealer, for whatever reason, I'm a little pickier when it comes to a shade match. Doesn't make sense but that's how it seems to work out when I'm looking at foundation and concealer.
