Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge 2024

Hello, BIC Beauties! If the idea of makeup capsules piques your curiosity, or you're interested in seeing what's in the beauty collection or weekly makeup bag of your fellow BIC beauties, jump right on in - with questions, comments or a capsule of your own to share.

0 - 8.18 edit capsule post 4.jpg
To add a fun take on putting together a makeup capsule, I've included theme(s) for the weekly capsule - some weeks, I have enough products in my stash (eek!) to make a whole capsule based on the prompt; other weeks, I have just one or two items that fit neatly within theme.

Whether you find yourself in the same place or somewhere in between, jump right on it and share your weekly makeup capsule. Check out the FAQ section below ⤵️ for more info on this challenge.

CURRENT MAKEUP CAPSULE THEME:

Week 52 (December 23 - December 29) - The Holiday Glam Makeup Capsule and/or  The "2024 Makeup Capsule Collection" Makeup Capsule - Some options for us to close out the makeup capsules for 2024 (or to kick start 2025)!

Show us the beauties you use when you want to add glitz and glam (or, that up the glitz and glam element) to your makeup look.

and/or

Curate a bag with your go-to, GOAT, ride-or-die products that would make up your ultimate makeup capsule collection (for 2024). If it's too much to put together a creme de la creme capsule or if you're at your best with options, consider putting together a makeup capsules of one or more favorites you discovered (or re-discovered) in 2024.

Spoiler

What is a capsule makeup collection?

A capsule makeup collection is a selection of makeup products that can be used to put together different looks for a variety of occasions. For some of us, that may mean a group of essential products for your everyday look plus a few extra items for a more glam or dramatic look; and, for others of us, that may mean, a lineup of our holy grail product(s) in each makeup category. My ideal capsule makeup collection probably falls somewhere in between - we'll (hopefully) find out at the end of the year! I don't see myself as a minimalist, but I don't have an extensive collection of makeup either. I appreciate the collections of people who fall within both camps but I float somewhere in between - on the one hand, my brow product collection would earn a gold star if we were using a minimalist approach to makeup; my lip product lineup, on the other hand, would not. 🤣 It would most definitely not.

Why have a capsule makeup collection?

Everyone will have their own reasons for having (or not having) a more streamlined makeup collection. Over the years, I've just become more interested in having less beauty products on hand (well, except for lip products, lol) - a handful of items I use or reach for more frequently with maybe a few additional products that are go-to's for me for special events or occasions.  Don't get me wrong, I love trying new products and I don't see that changing. I just like the idea of having a simpler collection (I appreciate that "simpler" can be relative), curated to my needs and lifestyle.

Why weekly?
A few years ago, beauty & lifestyle blogger Serein Wu, did a weekly series (on her blog and YouTube channel), Makeup Bag Monday, where she rotated her makeup bag each week with new product launches and makeup already in her collection. Every Monday, she shared the products she selected for the upcoming week and provided detailed makeup reviews on the makeup she used for the previous week. I may not post detailed reviews, but will at least try to include a weekly recap (probably at the end of the week) of what products I like and which ones didn't work for me.  If weekly works for you, great. If not, feel free to join in based on what works best for you.

What if I don't have enough products to fit the theme for a full face?

No need for your entire makeup capsule to fit the weekly theme(s). Just one will do. And, even if you don't have one that fits squarely within a theme, feel free to post your makeup capsule. We'd love to see what you're using and hear your feedback on the products as you put them to use.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@curlychiquita @danielledanielle me either. I passed that on really fast after I received it in gratis. There was no depth no matter what you did. The eye liners and lip products were much better.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@curlychiquita, okay, so I'm not alone.  I wonder if they are being reformulated, because only rich girl is available here 🤔

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

My last weeks capsule was actually pretty small for me.  I had a few different sale items start to trickle in and so I got to using the first batch which was pretty dang close to a full face.  I have to say... so impressed with just about everything!

I've still got one package on the way that should be here on monday so I'll be doing another week of sale items this coming week once they get here.

Look... could I have come up with a prettier background? Sure. But this is my current reality. I have two boxes at the moment. One on my kitchen table and one in my washroom where I get ready. lolLook... could I have come up with a prettier background? Sure. But this is my current reality. I have two boxes at the moment. Spoiler
One could also say that this is a bic inspired haul... Most of what I purchase from Sephora is.
- ciele tint & PROTECT medium coverage serum foundation with SPF 50+ 02 | Fair I picked up after seeing a few youtubers like it.  I liked the SPF that would be a bit of a top up to the SPF I wear daily.  I have to say... delivery system is not a favourite.  It's a dropper style and while it's been clean so far, I can see it getting gunky with more use. So far... this has looked outstanding on my skin and lasted about 10 hours without touch ups which is quite a good time for me.
- NATASHA DENONA Hy-Glam Brightening & Hydrating Medium to Full Coverage Crease Proof Serum Concealer ... This is a formula I enjoy a lot lately.  I picked up one shade down from what I've been using and I quite enjoy both and feel like both will work with me. Gotta say though... when I had this on with the Ciele serum foundation... the foundation lasted longer than the concealer.  Keep in mind... I do touch my face a lot through the day.
- HUDA BEAUTY #FauxFilter Brightening Under Eye Color Corrector Peach is a really nice formula.  It's thin, but pigmented and blends in very nicely to my skincare.  It covers great, and my concealer sits on top of it well.
- MILK MAKEUP Cooling Water Jelly Tint Lip + Cheek Blush Stain Splash is quite nice.  I saw a few reviews before mine came in and was going very slow and deliberate at first.  I found using a brush for cheek stain worked really well for me and it blended out with no problems.  I tried this on my lips as well and I like the shade quite a bit, but I do need a mirror and to be careful.  I can see myself using and enjoying this quite a bit!
- Summer Fridays Dream Lip Oil for Moisturizing Sheer Coverage Love it.  Sheer colour, but very wearable, feels lovely on the lips.  A thinner formula that I'm so glad I was talked into. This could be something that is beyond easy to toss in a bag and reapply without mirror while matching pretty much everything.
- Danessa Myricks Beauty Groundwork: Blooming Romance - Palette For Eyes, Brows, Face & Lips I've used this pretty much every day since it came in.  The creams do crease on me if I don't use a primer.  I have loved how it's looked so much though that I haven't even tried using just the powders yet.  I'm someone who never tires of the pink palettes so I'm quite happy to have this one.  I've tried it on my cheeks once and quite liked that as well.  While I do get a bit of creasing after a full day even with primer... it's super easy to pat the creases out.
- Tower 28 Beauty LipSoftie™ Hydrating Tinted Lip Treatment Balm Blood Orange Vanilla .  This smells amazing.  It's more pigmented than I expected and because of that, I think the delivery system, the rounded tip, isn't' the best idea.  When I did apply it, it was a bit.. messy, and grainy.  I saw others mention the grainyness online and figured it had to be a one off.  Don't get me wrong, it's not the most awful thing going, but the grainyness and applicator tip will make me skip picking up others from the line. Kinda disappointed, as Tower 28 has been a favourite brand.
- Other non sale items, the Nars Pro Prime was used with the shadows, the Kokie powder is used to set my under eyes and my Tzone.  It's quite nice for a random product and I'll try to push forward with this to pan it as there isn't much left. The ABH brow wiz is a sample size, so only 1/3 of the regular size and should be done shortly.  The Lancome liner is a random one I chose to use on my upper lash line.  Nothing special, but works fine.  The Stila lip liner was just fine.  It's a bit too pale for my liking.

Overall, quite a few things I really enjoy.  Can't wait to try a couple out a bit longer next week with some other new products!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

There were so many "yes"-es and nods as I was looking over your capsule beauties @missjeanie! A huuuge one for the Summer Fridays lip oil and that NARS primer. Those MILK jelly blush sticks look fun. I'm sure glad I'm not into blush as much as I am a few other products because I'd probably have a (lot larger) pile of blush right now if I did

As for the background, I love it! ❤️ It's absolutely perfect for the week's theme ❣️❣️❣️ As much as I usually find it calming to photograph things, capturing shots in or looking at shots taken of things as they are real life is one of my favorite things to do and look at. Interested to see how that Ciele plays out for you over the next week or so. I'm debating what base / foundation to break into next and that's one of the contenders. 😉 I'm sure I shouldn't open up another, but I'm on this kick to work through some products as part of distracting myself while on a low/no buy.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi Lol I swear I don't normally have cardboard boxes in my washroom... but sometimes you just roll with how things play out.  I wore the Ciele all last week and I realllllly like it.  It wore so well though the day and lasted way longer than I was expecting.  I tried something new today... maybeeeee influenced by this thread, and was comparing them every time I looked in a mirror.  Funny enough, this weeks capsule is also in a delivery box lol.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@missjeanie I feel like ciele tint & PROTECT medium coverage serum foundation with SPF 50+ and ciele blush & PROTECT SPF 50+ liquid blush are going to get big (bigger? If I'm late)  at some point.  Anytime I've seen/read someone mentioning the foundation, it's always promising.  The blush,  I just swatched and it seems pretty good.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@danielledanielle I've got the ciele blush & PROTECT SPF 50+ liquid blush Giselle in my capsule this week and... I really like it too.  I'm using the Merit foundation stick this week, but I'm excited to try both the Ciele products together.  The shade I picked up is... pigmented.  I thought the Rare Beauty blushes were a pigmented liquid... Ciele is giving em a big run.  I might need to buy more shades.  And try the powder.  While I'm enjoying the Merit stick.... I'm pumped to spend more time with the Ciele.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

RECAP: Week 16 - The BIC Inspired (Spring Edition) Meets The Sephora Savings Event Makeup Capsule

I attempted to blend both themes this week, with some successes. I also attended a couple of events this week which had me veering off track track from my capsules - one involved having an opportunity to have my makeup done (and I went with it 😉) and the other was a dinner that I used some (but not all) products from this week's capsule when getting ready. Overall, I worked out of my capsule for 5 out of the 7 days.

16 - Recap.jpg

These were the general standouts from the week, though not all were without their hiccups. I didn't end up using the MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Color Pencil Longwear Lip Liner 808 Boundless Berry (not pictured) much but that was more because I wasn't lining my lips in general during the week. I did enjoy it when I reached for it. I was also reminded how much I enjoy using the Sigma F80 Kabuki brush for applying my base.

Top Shelf:

🏆  I wish Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Crystal Holographic Lip Luminizer Holla'gram wasn't limited edition. It's on of my favorite lip toppers and for that I'm giving it a "Top Shelf" designation. Is it a GOAT lip topper? I need to go through some more lip toppers but it's a strong contender for that as well.

Surprise Hit:

👁  I'm very impressed with the lifting and general staying power of #SEPHORA COLLECTION Love The Lift Curling + Volumizing Waterproof Mascara Ultra Black (the tag never seems to want to stick around on this one?) - it actually lfit and curls my lashes more / better than my tried-and-true (and a current GOAT) Lancôme Monsieur Big Waterproof Mascara 01 Waterproof Big is The New Black 😯

Great but GOAT?

💗  I love Ami Colé Desert Date Cream Blush & Lip Multistick Hibiscus for both lips & cheeks; it's definitely one of my favorites. I realized I haven't really had a chance to compare and test vis-a-vis one another all my cream blushes - I don't have as sizeable a collection of cream blushes but I do really enjoy them all. I may do a compare wear test to see how they fare against one another. Or, maybe I'll come up with different categories for them to be GOATs. 🤣🤔

💗  I also have been loving the staying power on my lower T-zone and chin/jawline area that I get from ONE/SIZE by Patrick Starrr Mini On 'Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray. I'm just concerned about the alcohol in this one drying out my skin., particularly as those areas, while oily on the surface are also dehydrated underneath (the excess oil production is partly from my skin being dehydrated). Time will tell with this one.

16 - Recap 2.jpg

🔪  These two I've set aside for Week 18's chopping block in a couple of weeks. 😬 I really have found that theme / prompt so useful @cianni - thank you!

16 - Recap 3.jpg

🏡  These are from previous capsules and all are being / have been decluttered. All three items have been sanitized and will be re-homed. I was hesitant about it with the lippies, especially the lip oil because I started using it before I implemented my approach to keep products as sanitary as possible in case I decided to declutter so I could maximize my opportunities to re-home items, but the recipient is fine with it being sanitized. The Violette Fr. Invisible Bandage, conceptually, is a winner, but it pills. Badly. 🙁

Declutter Dashboard:

  • Week to Date: 3
  • Month to Date: 5

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi Ohhhh some great items here, some (Ami Colé) I'll be testing out next week.  I have to say... I had one of the One Size Setting Spray on hand from lord knows when that I only tried once last winter... that stuff works well for me.  I was mad at myself for not trying it earlier.  I really should try it again now that things are getting a little warmer (I say that like I didn't see snow falling this weekend).  Any thoughts on the Kosas BB Burst?  I haven't heard much about it beyond the initial launch.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Ohhhh, you have some Ami Cole on the way to you @missjeanie? Yaaaay! 🙌 I'm excited for you to try out their products! My skin has been a bit tempermental lately and more dry than usual for this time of year (granted, the weather has also been off) so I've been a more cognizant of late of ingredients that are more drying (like alcohol). I feel like the One/Size setting spray will be 😘 when the warm weather sticks around.

I like the Kosas BB but am still trying to figure out how I like it best. It says on the tube that it's a "tinted gel cream" and to me, that feels like a spot on description - the consistency isn't what I think of when I think traditional Korean beauty BB cream. This one layers well and 2 layers will give it more opacity. I find that traditional BB creams have more coverage than a tinted moisturizer, but feel that the Kosas BB gives less coverage than a tinted moisturizer, but the coverage is more easily buildable. I'll get back to you later in the week with some comparisons with a tinted moisturizer and a KBeauty BB cream. You have the Missha BB cream, yes? Or are familiar with the texture / consistency?

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi I wore the Ami Colé Desert Date Cream Blush & Lip Multistick today on my cheeks and lips.  Admittedly though I wore like 5 things on my lips today... had to try em all lol.  It's super pretty, and.... I might need to keep an eye out for a shade expansion.

I do have the Missha, it's actually a favourite of mine!  Love the shade, texture, finish... it's just lovely.

Sorry to hear your skin has been a bit off lately, I think the weather is playing with all of us, luckily you have an arsenal at your disposal to help fight mother nature!!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@missjeanie, here are swatch comparisons

for the Kosas BB and the Missha BB.

Kosas BB vs Missha BB.jpeg

The Missha has a more opaque finish from the get go. I can get some opacity with the Kosas on the second layer.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi Ohhhh very interesting swatch.  1.  Thank you for listing the shades.  Real life shade swatches like this are the bread and butter for those of us who mostly order online!  And 2.... Do you find the Kosas BB patchy?  Or is it just super sheer? I'm kind of intrigued more and more.  Not that I need another base product....

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@missjeanie, I'm thinking it's just that the formulation is on the sheer side, because I didn't see the separation when I applied a second layer on my face. I'm hoping to find a day where I can test it on its own for a full day when I'm doing a mix of different activities, including seeing how it holds up to steam from big ol' bown of pho noodles. It probably won't happen this weekend but soon; I'll let you know how it wears.

lol, "Not that I need another base product...." I feel like I hear some form of that phrase all the time. And then it gets validated when I'm going through a bin of products for a weekly capsule. Or in the case of this week, for a daily capsule.

Totally up for doing real life swatches! With some shades, the camera on my phone does this auto adjusting thing that makes no sense and I can never adjust it to make it photograph how it actually looks in real life. I'm pretty sure it's the lighting and angles so I just need to experiment a little more.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi Spring sale is literally a week done and I'm already making a list for the next time I see a cute gwp.... or just... a 'treat yo self' moment.  Maybe just a Friday night.  So, my low buy isn't going terribly well.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

Oh, I'm so intrigued by what has made your list @missjeanie 😍

Has it really only been a week since the sale?!! My goodness! Here I was giving myself a pat on the back for being mostly good ... errr, fairly good? Ummm, for not buying everything I wanted since the Sephora sale ended. (I went to a couple of events, and, yes, there were purchases made.)  Yes, I didn't buy everything I wanted to. Sure, my wish lists have been getting awfully long ...

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi a few events eh???? I have a few blushes I had resisted during the sale that I'm going to pick up.  I'm also looking at a few items from Bite Lip Lab after @Sunnysmom reminded me that they sell pre made items.  The new Glow Recipe SPF Dew Balm looks like something I'd want to try for science.  And then YSL had to release a tinted balm, and Chanel has those super pretty sun kissed powders with the three shades.  And I have no idea why but I saw a photo of Byoma lip products, and now i feel the need to try them.  Okay... I might need to narrow this list down a bit lol... low buy... I'm on a low buy!!!!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

@itsfi, congrats on the latest declutters.  Also sounds like your blended capsule was a success, and oooh, I love that you got your makeup done.  Always a treat.

Now you've got me wanting to bust out my F80.

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

I've been using a beautyblender or my fingers a lot more lately for foundation @danielledanielle, and it was nice to use the Sigma brush. Will have to mix it up more with what I use going forward.

Ohhhh, so fun to have my makeup done. Gave me a chance to chat it up with people about skincare and makeup, and to learn some new tips and tricks too. Made me happy!

Re: Capsule Makeup Collection Challenge

My Make up artist founded brands capsule from last week.  I have quite a few items that fit the theme and tried to pull out some things that are much older and haven't been used in ... years.

436784344_1182370779796853_6629758131364628105_n.jpg

Spoiler
-This MUFE palette was one that I used and loved to death years ago.  it was harder to find cooler toned palettes and the MUFE matte formula was a winner for me. That said, it's been sitting unused for way too long and was the first thing I thought of when looking to pull for this week.  I added in two singles I had help the palette out and add in a shimmer shade.
- I knew that I wanted to keep the NARS lip oil in this week and thought that some Audacious lipsticks would work well with it.  These were favourites around the same time I was in love with the MUFE palette so I was feeling like I was back in time.  The brighter shade was nice to have with a burst of warmer weather we had and felt very spring/summer like.
-The Nars powermatte... I like the formula but this shade just wasn't what I wanted this week so it only got used once.
-The Westman Atelier lip balm/gloss is such a nice formula and I actually went and checked to see if there were any other shades I wanted to pick up last week after using this one again.  This is one that I could easily toss into a purse all summer and never tire of.
-The MUFE pencil is used as a lipliner and as much as they have a ton of shades I enjoy... I wish there were a few more.  I could easily see this formula being the only ones I repeat buy for some time going forward.  They're stiff enough to last, but just soft enough to not tug.

436340986_3805199429716130_5823119048354467616_n.jpg

Spoiler
-I pulled the MUFE Watertone because I was looking at some products for the sale that were more tints than foundations.  I used this last week and the first few days this week and I used a lot of product.  My skin however was looking mighty dry.  I'm not sure if the excessive dryness was due to some overused retinol or that this just didn't work for me.  It was so full at the start of the week that I'd be shocked if I'd previously used it more than twice.  I'm interested in seeing if I can use this mid summer when I'm at my oiliest and get a good result.  If so, I'd try to pan this simply due to how quickly I think I could go through this and the good shade match.
-The MUFE concealer... is at least half done, and is another candidate for panning.  The shade is good, but the formula just isn't a favourite.  It doesn't quite set down and I'm someone who touches my face often enough that it ended up under my finger nails and that's just not what I'm aiming for.
-The Nars multiple was one of the first multiple products I'd ever used and it really triggered my love of cream products.  The colour still stands up and while it's not my most pigmented blush... I've no doubt been going hard on blush and this was a nice switch up for a more subtle look.  I need to use this or lose it.  I probably should have lost it years ago.
- It cosmetics brow pencil, Nars eye primer and Bobbi Brown corrector are items that have popped up in several of my capsules.  I actually managed to finish the brow pencil so I'm happy to have one more done and getting closer to getting back to the format I love (tinted brow gels).
- Makeup by Mario cream bronzer is something I would never have purchased, but that I love.  It's light enough in pigment that it blends easily and doesn't look overboard on my lighter skin tone. I'm very happy I was gifted this in gratis!!
-MAC blush... wasn't used all week.  I was quite happy with the Nars multiple and didn't reach for this at all!

So I've been finding a few things here and there that I'd love to pan.  I've now got a box of products going that once I've decided I should pan them, they'll be put into and as I finish one of my project pan items, I'll pull from the box.  I think this is a better idea for me than putting them back into my stash simply for ease of choice when I need a panning item and to keep my stash a little neater looking.

Ooh, I like the way you went about this capsule @missjeanie; the secondary theme of revisiting older products is great - I’m sensing a possible future capsule theme. 🤔

The formula and consistency on that WA lip product is really good. I’m trying to be good  better about limiting the number of lip products I add to my stash but that line is one I’d consider. I would love to see a few more shades added to her lineup.

Yay for finishing a brow pencil - that’s no small feat! Good on you! Tinted brow gels, you say? Do you have any favorites in that category?
