Anyone else struggling with Kosas concealer??

I needed a new concealer and went with kosas for the reviews and ingredients, but I canโ€™t get it to look good?? Iโ€™m a makeup artist, Iโ€™ve tried a million concealers, and Iโ€™ve never had one act like this, Iโ€™ve tried every technique and application I know from skin prep to different tools, everything, and it will not look good any way I apply it or set it, is anyone else having issues like this?? The consistency of the product itself seems to be good, but I just cannot get it to look nice on the skin.

Re: Anyone else struggling with Kosas concealer??

@LouiseMorgan I bought it and was disappointed as well so I gave it away. My issue was that it looked cakey and oxidized really badly on me!

Re: Anyone else struggling with Kosas concealer??

@sabrinas  I find it does the same on me, Iโ€™m in the palest shade for myself and it oxidizes a bit too dark on me, and it emphasizes texture I didnโ€™t even know I had. Iโ€™m going to keep mine and keep playing with it and hopefully find a winning combination but I definitely wonโ€™t be getting it to use on my clients. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Re: Anyone else struggling with Kosas concealer??

I haven't experienced this with that one and I've used it on many, many people. What is looking bad about it to you?

If you've tried prepping it with a quality eye cream, applying in very sheer layers, and not over applying setting powder and you're still not liking the look, my question would be are you in the wrong shade? Or did you maybe get a weird batch? (Less likely to be the last one since this concealer hasn't been around super super long yet.)

I guess it is also possible that a product just isn't for you today ๐Ÿ™‚ but that one has been well loved by lots and lots.

Re: Anyone else struggling with Kosas concealer??

@dride25  I suppose it could be the wrong shade however Iโ€™m in the lightest shade they make and it oxidizes a hair too dark, which happens with all of my concealers save a couple.
Itโ€™s not so much the color as it is the separation, Iโ€™ve tried it with every kind of application and tool, even my fingers, over eye cream, bare unprepped skin, moisturizer or no moisturizer, primer or no primer, and it separates before I even have a chance to set it, and looks even worse after I do. I havenโ€™t used it on clients yet because I wanted to test one out myself first.

I suppose itโ€™s possible I got a bad batch, for me itโ€™s acting like an old expired foundation or something with too much oil in the formula. I also tried it on a close friend and mine did the same thing on her.
I love the ingredients and shade range and want to love the concealer so bad, maybe should I get a second one and see if it does the same thing?

Re: Anyone else struggling with Kosas concealer??

I think if it were me I would try exchanging it for a dif tube to see if it was something that happened with that particular lot.

Is it oxidizing or is it drying down to a shade that is too dark? Oxidizing is usually a chemical reaction that happens to the pigments when theyโ€™ve interacted with skin oil and oxygen. (It would be unusual for a product to oxidize under the eye bc we donโ€™t have oil glands in that part of our skin.) Dry down is just what happens when a liquid dries to its set finish. (That maybe sounds like Iโ€™m being snarky but not my intent!) Oxidizing can take minutes to hoursโ€ฆbut dry down can take seconds to minutes.

If you notice the color being too dark pretty quick after you apply then you have a shade that is too dark for you. (Very common for folks on either end of the shade spectrum to not have a solid match.) Which is a bummer bc that may mean they donโ€™t have your shade rn.

My last rec has more to do with application. When I was still in store/field Training what I experienced was that many people, even artists, are over applying concealer. We see folks online swipe a big old wand full under the eye and then go to town blending. That is a recipe for textural issues and product failure.

What Iโ€™d rec instead is the absolute sheerest layer possible. Take the teeniest dot of product, work it into your brush, check to make sure no bristles are stuck together, test the finish on the back of your hand and then place it under the eye. That can also make a big difference if the color isnโ€™t completely perfect.

I hope that helps and sorry this was so many words lol
