Sheer lipsticks

I like the look of sheer lipsticks but I find that they sometimes apply patchy/uneven or color settles into lip lines opaquely. Do you have any tips for an even wash of color? Maybe a favorite lip primer?

@Shelbstirr just want to jump in with a recommendation as well. I love the MAC prep and prime lip primer. It's not at Sephora but you can get it at Ulta or a MAC counter. This helps smooth my lips, the lipstick goes on more smoothly and it really improves wear time, even on glosses.

@Shelbstirr Also, some sheer lipstick formulas themselves wear differently.  Have you tried the L'Oreal ColourRiche Shine lipsticks?  They're pretty sheer with just enough pigment to be pretty but they wear really wear on me (although I realize that this may vary by person).

In addition to the primer, I also suggest setting it with a tiny bit of powder. It gives the lipstick something to adhere to, so it's not sliding around and looking patchy.
