Long wear red lipstick

I’m a dancer and am in serious need of a long wearing, NOT DRYING, and relatively transfer proof red lipstick. Would be a plus if it was clean beauty, but not a main priority. I have looked on Sephora and Ulta, but many have such mixed or inconsistent reviews. Any advice? For reference I have pale ish skin with a neutral to slightly olive undertone.

I’m going to add a couple of red lipsticks not mentioned yet @Sunnysmom @l0velybl00m .

My original favorite is no longer offered by Sephora is Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso. It can be purchased at either Ulta or Stila direct.

 I also like NUDESTIX Intense Matte Lip Pencil + Cheek in Royal and Stiletto. I do need to wear lip balm under all of these products.

I love a good lip stain, for a red i'd say Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Poutsicle Hydrating Lip Stain Strawberry Sangria 

There is some transfering as it dries but it is nicely long lasting.

You can apply a little ⬆️

@l0velybl00m, don't forget about lip stains.  SEPHORA COLLECTION Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick 01 Always Red is a great shade of red and the fact that it's a stain lends to its lasting power.

I also like NARS Mini Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil Duo Cruella/ Dolce Vita .  Haven't tried NARS Powermatte High-Intensity Long-Lasting Lip Pencil Cruella - 185 , but if it is like the predecessor, I don't find the shade transfer proof, but it's easy to apply and not super drying on me.

@danielledanielle how do you like to apply stains?  And how do you keep your lips from being dry with them?  The models' lips for the SC stains look parched to me.

I'm pretty low key with lip prep @greeneyedgirl107 .  Or at least I think I am 🤷🏽‍♀️😂

I stay hydrated, just because my lips get very flaky when either heat is on full blast (and drying) or temps are 40 or less.

Prep overnight is light exfoliation with a washcloth and then Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Plush Puddin’ Intensive Recovery Lip Mask With Pomegranate Sterols + Vitamin... 

If I'm wearing a full look, I'll prep my lips with a mask, currently it's Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Fenty Treatz Hydrating + Strengthening Lip Oil Cherry .  If I'm not, it's just whatever balm or lip oil or lip mask nearby 😅  Once I brush my teeth, the oil/mask is worn down enough, but still present, and then I just apply the lip.  If the lipstick/lippie is drying, I'll usually just apply a gloss over it as it wears away throughout the day.

I have one Sephora stain and the first time I wore it did dry

me out a bit so the second time I wore it I prepped my lips with MAC Cosmetics Prep + Prime Lip Primer 0.05 oz/ 1.7 g Let it set for a few minutes, put the stain over top and finished with a balm. It wore sooo much better @greeneyedgirl107

It really is, I believe last year it was @SportyGirly125 and @WinglessOne ( thank you ladies!) that recommended it to me. I use it underneath any lippie that is too drying and it really helps. 🙏

@l0velybl00m  I’ve yet to find a bullet lipstick that’s anywhere near as transfer-proof as a liquid matte. Sadly, most liquid mattes dry the heck outta my lips, despite my lip care/prep routine. Buuuut, I very recently found one that doesn’t: 

Violette_Fr Petal Bouche Matte, shade Amour Fou is available at Moda Operandi and direct from Violette_Fr. There’s also a deep red shade, if you’d prefer. This lipstick dries down to a rose petal finish that doesn’t transfer easily. Normally I have to wear both lip balm and a lip primer under liquid mattes to keep my lips comfy, but with this one I only need lip balm. The Amour Fou color applies with no fuss and doesn’t fade throughout the day. And this lipstick has an opacity that lets me play with color depth. I love it so much, I’m buying the pink shade next. 

Lip prep for liquid mattes: I apply a petrolatum balm (plain ol’ Aquaphor Ointment, but CeraVe Ointment would also work) to lips dampened with water (not saliva, which can worsen dryness). I give that a minute to settle, then gently tap my lips against the back of my hand or a tissue to remove any excess if necessary. With most liquid mattes, I have to apply MAC Prep + Prime Lip atop balm to further protect my lips. There are other lip primers out there, but MAC’s is my favorite. Give the primer 2 minutes to set before applying lipstick. 

I’ll come back later with a couple other lipstick options, once I’m home again. 🙂
