Hi BIC!
A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.
@heartsmyface I should’ve clarified this in my original comment (I just edited it again to clarify) but: when I say I won’t support a beauty brand, I usually mean I won’t financially support them. If I have a problem with a brand for whatever reason—the way they treat their customers, super shady behavior, beliefs or behavior of the brand founder, etc.—I choose not to give them my money. Other folks can still love on the brand’s products if they want because “it’s just makeup,“ but I choose to personally not help the brand profit. That’s just how I roll. 🤷♀️ I realize it’s not how everyone else operates. I don’t automatically assume all customers of a problematic-to-me brand condone said brand’s behavior. I just always feel obligated to post that disclaimer because of all the times I’ve been bullied (outside BIC) for daring to mention I don’t support certain brands. 😄
ANYway... yeah, I’m a bit confused by the new KVD brand approach, starting with the decision to keep the “KVD” name. It’s now an acronym for something I don’t recall, other than V is now for Vegan. I wish Kendo had at least slightly changed the acronym. I realize they’re trying to keep some brand recognition but they might not need to rely as heavily on that as they think. I wonder how they’ll rebrand products as they transition through the former “Kat von D” brand name... how much tattoo reference will remain in packaging, product photos, and ads. I see they’re currently kinda going with a “rebel” theme so... huh.
YAS YAS YAS YAAAAAAS GIRL!!! These swatches are AMAZING!!! I am LOVING IT!!! 😄Thank you for posting, they are super helpful!!! @2manyperfumes
Thank you so much @SchylarR 🥰, I tried to give the photos a gothic vibe. 🦇🌹
Lipstick 259: Gucci Rouge a Levres Mat in Valentine Verdante. Because how am I supposed to resist a potentially good dark teal lipstick? I picked up my Sephora package yesterday and couldn’t wait to test this shade, so I wore it last night.
Mini review:
I bought 2 of the Gucci Rouge a Levres bullets: one matte, one satin. Haven’t put the satin one on my lips yet because I’m still super stoked about the teal. Do you know how hard it is to find a dark teal bullet that performs to my standards? And I don’t already have one with a velvet matte finish, so this fills a gap! (That’s my story, anyway. 😂)
My only complaints about Valentine Verdante:
1. It has a mild perfume smaste (smell-taste) that, thankfully, disappears 5 minutes after application.
2. It kept wanting to create a slightly fuzzy outline during application, especially along my upper lip. I never have this problem with PMG MatteTrance bullets, which have a similar velvet matte finish. I’m tempted to cut a sharper edge into this bullet’s tip to correct the problem. Sure, I could just use a lip liner instead for a crisp outline, but I don’t use liners with bullets unless I’m doing something artistic on my lips, stopping a bleeder, or laying down a full base coat to tweak a top coat’s color. Anyway, I’ll play more with this bullet to figure out how to fix this. Maybe after enough use, it’ll submit to my will and always give me that clean line I get with other bullets.
I love everything else about this shade. It doesn’t bleed or feather. It’s not gritty, grainy, chunky, or patchy. It applies smoothly and holds up nicely to multiple cups of coffee and water, and its weardown is a graceful gradient. I have no regrets about this purchase.
How about a little swatch porn? Here’s Valentine Verdante compared with other teals and one of the greens in my hoard:
While I’m at it, here’s Guerlain Orange Fizz and Bite Hot Harissa compared with others in that shade family:
Those teal and green lipstick swatches are so calming to look at. 😊 Very pretty @WinglessOne!
@WinglessOne You are queen of untraditional colours!
Gucci def my fav for you @WinglessOne ! Nice nice! Are you loving them? I have been wearing Myra a lot.
Thanks @Sunnysmom ! So far, I’ve only worn the teal one. I was going to wear Sadie Firelight today but I decided to stay home instead... I might throw it on soon just to give it a half-day wear test. 🙂 I considered buying one of the Gucci sheers as well, but couldn’t decide on a shade. I’m waiting for those to hit stores so I can swatch in person.
If I wasn’t currently doing another declutter round of red lipsticks (I still have waaaay too many reds 🤣), I’d have bought Myra Crimson. I bet it looks great on you!
It is a good one @WinglessOne you’d love it too. Agree on swatching in person because they look subtly different ! Oh I need to do that but I feel like I’m losing such good friends I can’t bear to part with them ! 😩
These swatches are all beautiful @WinglessOne
@heartsmyface C603? It’s one of my favorites. 💙 Only problem with it is the stubborn stain it leaves behind after wiping it off. Fully removing it requires both a strong makeup remover and petroleum jelly, unless you don’t mind looking asphyxiated for a few hours. 😄
@WinglessOne Oh no, hahah that makes me nervous! I stain so easily! Hahahaha, asphyxiated is a look😂.
speaking of lipstick remover- dang do I ever miss the Bite beauty lip wipes!
@heartsmyface 🤣 I swear that shade of lipstick is the only thing Lancôme Bi-Facil can’t fully remove on its own.
I never tried Bite’s lip wipes, but now I wish I had. Though really, if a good makeup remover doesn’t work, petroleum jelly always does the job for me.
Oooh you rock a teal lip the best @WinglessOne ❤️👏, love this and that you busted into it and couldn’t wait lol. I love that it has balance between both the blue and green undertones. All your teals are completely different. Colourpop also caught my eye. I also love orange fizz and Sadie firelight.
Thanks @2manyperfumes ! Sadie Firelight is the second Gucci bullet I bought. I might wear it tomorrow. 🙂
I’m wearing 104 from the Merveilleuses du Ladurée Paris Rendez-vous collection. These lipsticks are so lightweight and creamy. I love that it feels like nothing on the lips until you press your lips together and feel creaminess.
