Hi BIC!
A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.
These Smashbox Metallics are awesome colors. This one looks gorgeous on you!! @SnugglePuggle94. Putting it on my faves 🙂
Ahh omg obsessed @SnugglePuggle94!!!! I neeeeed this in my life, you’ve inspired me haha 😍😍😍
So I'll start by saying I'm not a lip junkie. I don't have many lip products but I have a few unopened sample size ones. This group has inspired me to at least try my samples and maybe even pan them.
This is Sephora Rouge Cream in the shade Belly Dancing. My husband requested a free sample online for me which was sweet. I'm not a big red person - I feel like most reds make my teeth look yellow. But I decided to try this one with my red holiday dress for our office party.
The left picture is at the beginning of the day. Please ignore my still wet hair. The picture on the right is after breakfast and lunch. It has worn off and faded but I don't think it looks terrible.
After one use, I'd say red still wouldn't be my everyday color but I'll give it a go occasionally. The formula is okay. I'm sure a lip liner would help with application since I couldn't get a crisp line but it didn't smear which was good. I think the one thing I didn't like was the scent. It smelled a bit waxy and reminded me of getting Wet N Wild lipsticks in the 90s.
I'm looking forward to trying some of my other lip options and sharing with this group. Out of curiosity, does anyone have a guess for how long it takes to use a bullet sample? I'm thinking of putting a few in a project pan but as I don't have much lip product experience I wanted to establish realistic goals. Thanks!
Welcome!! Red looks stunning on you! ❤️
Welcome to the challenge! I think this is a pretty red and it still looks good as it wore down!
Welcome to the challenge, @ShortErica! That’s a really nice shade of red. I even like the stain it left behind as it wore away. And your teeth don’t look yellow at all to me in these photos. 🙂 Good (and thoughtful) sample choice by your husband!
Good question about sample (and mini) bullets. It just depends on how often you use it. I’ve gone through a mini bullet of Lipstick Queen Frog Prince in about 3 months. It’s what I wear whenever I’m not wearing another lipstick on my lips. Since it’s more of a tinted balm, I have to reapply it throughout the day. And I always keep a mini Frog Prince in my bag/purse, and always travel with it (I usually wear it on plane travel days)... it gets a lot of use between other lipsticks.
But I don’t think I’ve ever completely finished any other mini/sample bullet—not even my mini MAC Rebel (another one I always travel with), which is still half full. Hmm... next year, I think I’ll pick a mini and see how long it takes to pan it with once- or twice-a-week usage.
I look forward to hearing how your tracking goes for a mini/sample bullet @WinglessOne. I've kept a tally for my usage of the sample Bite lip crayon in Glace in the birthday gift and haven't used it up yet. Though I'm getting close. I'm really hoping to get through some samples and then determine an everyday lip option (both formula and color) for myself.
Welcome to the challenge! @ShortErica I am sure by the end of it you will love reds. I started out being bored by reds and now I love them. This is a great red on you and you're right, it wears down to a lip stain and doesn't need to be re-applied. Both ways look good 🙂
Thanks @Buootiful! I was impressed that it wore down so nicely.
@ShortErica welcome to the challenge! The red is very pretty on you 😍 I think I may actually have the same DS lying around somewhere...
below @txcatx mentioned a different application technique that make reds more “wearable”, so maybe if you’re not into wearing red on a regular basis, you can try that to work through them!
as for how long it takes to pan a sample size, I have also included some DS and minis in my 2019 project pan. I think someone on YouTube said that a PMG mini (I believe 1.2g of product) was enough for 10 wears, but in my experience that’s very low. I think I’ve used my bite mini in chai 5 or 6 times and it still is barely touched, so I’m gonna say maybe 20 or 25 wears? I’m pretty light on the reapplication (mostly because I forget, but also because some wear down nicely so I don’t mind).
@cianni Thanks for the insight on number of uses in a sample. I'll have to look into other ways to wear red. I'm not as opposed to it as I thought I would be but having ways to make it more wearable would be awesome. 🙂
When I saw Tom Ford and Armani lipsticks as 100 point perks last week, I knew it was time to take advantage of that $25 discount and stock up on skincare. So here's TOM FORD Lip Color Lipstick 16 Scarlet Rouge. It's definitely wearable, what I consider an everyday red, but I applied with fingers (a technique inspired by a Jeanne Damas makeup video I recently saw on YouTube) so my coworkers wouldn't ask if I'm going on a date after work, ha.
Past lipsticks:
@txcatx This is a perfect colour on you! How did i miss that perk!!
Oooooh, so pretty @txcatx ! I somehow missed this perk! Very nice finger application, that's a great tip for toning down bolder colors, I always seem to forget this...
@txcatx I love TOM FORD - Lip Color. They are so comfortable. The shade looks so pretty on you.
Best,
Rebecca
@txcatx I love this application idea to make a red more wearable 😍 hmmm may have to give it a try soon. My quest for the perfect red has resulted in a massive collection of deluxe and mini sized reds 😂
