Hi BIC!
A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.
@Krysa13 omg this is so glamorous! I love deep reds on you, so striking!
Beautiful color. @Krysa13 And nice it has lasting power. Great hat
@Anonymous thank you!
I love this look on you and the hat tops it nicely. Wow did I say “just tops it nicely?” Geez. Seriously where did you get the hat?
Thank you, @divaknits! The hat is from Target, they are supposed to be on sale right now.
I wound up being up way earlier than normal for some reason, so it's two-fer Wednesday 😁
First up, I did a somewhat silly little experiment with two of my pH adjusters...LQ Frog Prince vs Physicians Formula pH Matchmaker, applying one to each side of my lips. LQ on your left, PF on your right. This is after somewhere near an hour of wear. I was surprised that side by side, the LQ looks almost as dark as the PF...I've long said LQ doesn't do much on me, and while the PF did get a bit brighter, LQ wasn't nearly as far behind it as I thought it would be. That said, I do still like the PF better...it's a gloss with shimmer in it, and just looks plumper and shinier in my mind, plus the LQ left a few stripes on the outer corner of my lip if you look closely.
I tried to follow those up with LQ Hello Sailor, but both left such a vivid pink stain that trying to see it was downright impossible...then UPS ran and I got a new goodie that covers the stain way better than I ever imagined it would 😋
Kevin Aucoin The Molten Lip Color in Carbon
I knew this was going to be a deep purple, but I was still surprised at just how deep and dark it actually is. This is one thin coat; I was vaguely hopeful I'd be able to sheer it out a bit, but no dice there. Coverage is thankfully even; I had no issues with patchiness or streaks, which can be a problem with the darkest shades. Nearly black isn't exactly my wheelhouse...this is most definitely the darkest shade in my collection, so I'm not sure exactly what to do with this quite yet or how to incorporate into a full look, but I am looking forward to playing some more and expanding my horizons a bit (assuming it wears well...fingers crossed it doesn't bleed or otherwise annoy me lol).
If you love pH adjusters @RGbrown, you should try the gloss one from bourjois. It's lovely and really brings out that pink color.
Oh, nice, thanks for the recommendation!
I agree...never know til you try it! Which is so hard to balance with a low buy...only add loves...but wait, how will know if I love it or not if I don't buy it?? 😛 😛 😛
@RGbrown LOL!!!! Can’t argue with that logic 😉
I wasn’t sure at first but the more I looked the better it was. It is definitely an @RGbrown look because you just have a way of making it and you look so awesome.
@Anonymous
Yeah, this one definitely required an adjustment period to get used to 😛 It grew on me for sure though!
@RGbrown this dark lipstick is amazing! It gives you such an edgy modern look and I really admire the perfect outline and the patent shine. You make me want it for myself 🙂
Thanks so much!
The applicator on this one was really helpful...the tip narrows down a bit finer than many liquids (not quite as fine as the NARS Powermattes, but smaller than most others I've run across), which made accuracy around the edges pretty dang easy. And I am really digging on the shine too!
@RGbrown I really really like this on you! It’s so eye catching. I love the sheen on it too. It’s quite chic I think!
Oh la la, I love "chic" 😄 Thanks doll! ❤️
Carbon looks great, @RGbrown! I’d say that even if I didn’t have a bias toward black/near-black shades. 🖤 I almost bought this and Bronze, but held off—and now I might have to change my mind. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on how it performed!
About the transformers: The PF is definitely more noticeable, but both look good to me. It’s always interesting to see how these kinds of lipsticks look on different people.
The bad news...Carbon is a bleeder 😞 I know that's not nearly as big an objection for you as it is me, but I checked it somewhere around 20-30 minutes after application, and I had little spider legs radiating out from both top and bottom lips. The good news though...it wears down exceptionally well and stays soft so you can smoosh it back around a bit when the center gets lighter.
I'm not a fan of bleeders in general, but I'm actually going to keep this for now and try again. I tried to apply a clear lip liner after cleaning up some of the feathering, but that was less than successful (as is normal for me), but I'm going to give it a whirl another day with a primer and/or liner underneath it...I think this shade might be worthwhile enough to live with the extra effort 😄
I'm debating going back for Daphne now that I've seen your pic...I ordered Ovid, but passed on any others. Sigh. This thread is horrible for my wallet 😛
(I don't think I can get anywhere near enough stuff to make free shipping again though, so hopefully the "want want want" will pass 😛 )
@RGbrown Bleeding is actually what I worried about with Carbon. I tolerate bleeding/feathering only if I can stop it with a liner/primer (which I guess isn’t really tolerating it at all 🤣), or if the feathering’s so minimal it can’t be seen unless you’re standing right in front of me with a magnifying glass. Sounds like this might be a problem child, but maybe not with a black or dark purple liner + some lip primer insurance. Good to know it stays soft; it might be worth the extra effort to stop the bleed. 🙂
And I hear you: I’m tempted to go back to get Eros, which I avoided because I probably (okay, definitely) don’t need another fuchsia. But seeing how my lip color(s) affect Daphne, I can kinda picture how Eros might look on me, and it might be different enough to justify another purchase. I’m also not sure I can meet the shipping minimum this time. But that won’t stop me from trying. 😂
Ah, yeah, I worded that poorly...you're more willing to mess with a liner/primer than I am...any lippie that *requires* two steps is pretty much immediately destashed around here. I am l-a-z-y when it comes to that 😛
