100 Days of Lipstick Challenge

Hi BIC!

A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.

Today for Valentines Day I went with a bright pink - bareMinerals Gen Nude Liquid Lipstick in Fresh. It’s a bit warmer and brighter than what is shown, it’s got a definite yellow base. I usually have a hard time with shades like this, but this particular one is okay. I wish the formula was a tad creamier, a shade this bold tends to make lips look drier than they are.

For Valentine's Day I had to wear Kaja Heart Melter Lip Gloss Stick 06 Wink Winksent by the wonderful @TeamBIC.

06 Wink Wink is a lighter pink with glitter. When I first opened it I thought "woo glitter" and was intimidated. In sunlight you can tell there is glitter on the lips but it isn't overwhelming like I feared. It looks more shimmer than straight glitter. It is a balm so it wears away fairly quickly. It didn't last through toast and tea this morning. But it feels comfy on the lips. I know the heart is gimmicky but the pointed end does help with application.

I was so SO excited to receive my first gratis and will love being able to throw this in my purse for a quick pep-up for my lips.

I’m so behind on posting but this thread has kept me inspired to wear a lippie every day. Today I wore the sweet gift Team BIC sent over - Kaja Heart Melter Lip Gloss Stick 05 Hunny Bun

Its a cool toned brown nude that is actually pretty buildable and VERY comfortable. It honestly just feels like a lip balm

Day 100, lipstick 118: Kaja Heart Melter in Too Hot. Special thanks to Sephora @TeamBIC  and Kaja for this great Valentine’s gift! It’s soft and glossy when first applied, with good pigmentation. I can lightly apply a sheer coat for a tinted look, or easily lay down a fully pigmented look. After a few cups of coffee and water, it wears down and leaves a nice semi-shiny tint behind. It does pool into lip lines as it wears down, but not badly enough to make me wipe it all off and reapply from scratch.

I do love a glossy red.

What I’ve learned during this challenge and my concurrent declutter:

Function over form, performance over prettiness. If a lipstick doesn’t perform well (and I can’t easily tame it), then ditch it. No more clinging to terrible performers, no matter how pretty a shade they are. 

I shouldn’t underline my bottom lip anymore. Seeing so many of my own selfies has made me realize my full pout looks so much better. 

No more Anastasia Beverly Hills lipsticks in any formula/finish, but especially not liquid mattes. ABH lipsticks have run out of chances with me. I realize many people love ABH lipsticks and hey, that’s fantastic! I’m just not one of those people. 

Most liquid mattes are too drying on my lips, so I now own far fewer than I used to.  

371 lipsticks = way too many for me to own, especially when most are bullets. 🤣 I’ve instituted space limits on my collection: if I acquire more lipsticks than will fit in my lipstick storage spaces, then I must purge some existing lipsticks. Gotta tame my inner lipstick junkie somehow! 

Great performing glosses (not sticky, bleedy, or streaky) really do exist! For a long time, I stopped wearing most glosses. Lancôme changed that last year. If not for the L’Absolu Lacquers, I might not have tried other good glosses like Fenty Gloss Bombs and Jouer High Pigment glosses. 

Super pale/light pinks and nearly all corals are still my nemeses—though I did manage to find 2 corals last year that work great on me. (Props to Lancôme and Pat McGrath.) 

I still don’t do seasonal lip colors. I can’t restrict myself that way. “All of the colors, all of the days,” that’s my motto. 😂 

My favorite observation during this challenge: We are a beautiful (inside and out) group of people in this thread, y’all. ❤️ I’m glad so many people have participated, and that new folks continue to join in. 

I’ll probably keep posting lipstick selfies beyond today. There are still a few blues I haven’t worn yet for this thread. 🙂 I had planned to wear one of them today, but my Sephora gift arrived and I couldn’t wait to try it.

[Oops, I hit the Post button too soon] Performance is definitely key. Well, unless you’re a collector who doesn’t really plan to wear certain lipsticks much. A friend of mine is a collector with over 600 lipsticks 😮 and some of those she owns simply to complete a specific collection. She also collects Japanese makeup brushes, which she keeps in freestanding display cases in her makeup room. I will say that being in that room and browsing all those brushes is oddly relaxing. 😄
