100 Days of Lipstick Challenge

Hi BIC!

A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.

I love the colors on you @WinglessOne!  I don’t recall Ghosted as being at all coral (but it’s been a while since I wore it). I applaud your decluttering and organizing!  Everything looks lovely and easy to locate. Sigh...

Thanks @jozkid! I wouldn’t be surprised if Ghosted isn’t coral at all on you, considering how different our skin tones are 🙂 —and especially if your natural lip color is different from mine. 

People ask why I don’t keep all my lipstick in drawers instead of countertop stands, and I tell them I’m terrible at putting things back in their drawers when I’m done using them. Don’t let the organized makeup fool you: I’m a messy not-so-organized person, and the rest of my home proves it. 😄

These are both such fresh looks on you! But as an aside.. can you teach me your power of letting go and decluttering??? I always want to, but when it comes down to it, I get rid of maybe 2 😂

@cianni Ditching lipstick is hard! Especially when it’s the only makeup item (aside from brow pencil) you don’t leave home without. I wasn’t serious about decluttering until the day I realized how overwhelmed I felt when I looked at my lipstick hoard, in all its stands and big carousels (larger than the ones I have now) taking up lots of table and countertop space. Then I wondered how many of those lipsticks I hadn’t worn in months or years, and that kicked my brain into “why are you keeping all these things you never use, and why aren’t you using them” mode. 

So, my power of decluttering is mostly just problem solving to restore some sanity. Problem: “I have so much lipstick, it’s suffocating me and taking up too much space—and I don’t even wear most of it!” Solution: “Wear-test and purge the poor performers, because this is ridiculous!” 

This thread has helped me a lot. It’s made me wear and rediscover some lipsticks, some of which I’ve ditched—and then I ditched similar lipsticks without even wear-testing them, like my entire collection of ABH and ColourPop liquid mattes. I know other folks have large lipstick collections and don’t want/need to declutter, and that’s fine for them! It just wasn’t fine for me. 🙂

Thanks @eshoe! In person, Orchid Alert on my lips looks closer to how it looks in the tube. I just didn’t color correct the photo. 😄 The tube photo’s close to accurate.

@WinglessOne I'm asking since you obviously have a pretty wide collection - which lipsticks do you think taste the least icky? I've not worn lipstick at all for the past ten years but I'm thinking of picking one up for the holidays.

@sockmagnet As long as the lipstick’s not scented/fragranced, you shouldn’t notice any taste. It’s the scented lipsticks you need to watch out for. In stores, I always smell lipsticks (solid bullets and liquid mattes/glosses). If they’re scented and I decide to buy them, I do so knowing I might end up tasting the fragrance. I don’t like to put in-store bullet testers on my lips, even after a thorough alcohol cleaning, and I NEVER put in-store liquid lipstick testers on my lips—so I take a smaste risk each time I buy a scented lipstick. 

Off the top of my head, the first “tastes like nothing” bullets I think of are all my MACs, PMGs, ColourPops, Black Ups, and Urban Decays.

The most scented bullets (that I can taste) I can think of are YSL, Too Faced (I mean, you kinda expect the Peach Kiss bullets to taste like something 😄), By Terry, and I have a Jung Saem Mool bullet that’s heavily rose scented.  

My Bite and MUFE bullets are scented but don’t have much of a smaste effect to me. Ditto for all my Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer glosses.

@eshoe It has kind of a rose blend scent... it smells like rose plus another scent I can’t quite place. It doesn’t smell bad at all (to me), and it’s not a super strong lingering scent. But I definitely smell-taste it a bit when I first apply it. 

By comparison, the Jung Saem Mool lipstick I mentioned is heavily scented. It has a straight-up rose scent. Like you’re wearing a bouquet of roses on your face. 😄 I’ve only lip-swatched it so far and haven’t worn it longer than 2 minutes, so I don’t know how long the smell lasts. This reminds me to wear it all day soon.
