100 Days of Lipstick Challenge

Hi BIC!

A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.

Day 78.  

Sorry again for the questionable selfie. This is Too Faced La Creme Mystical Effects in Mermaid Tears. Well, the effect of this one is indeed mystical and to me rather disappointing. I bought it on the assumption that it would have a  light peacock/green turquoise colour and a great deal of shimmer (yes, that's a weird lippie colour and that's exactly what I wanted). What I discovered is that upon exposure to light the lippie turns into this lavender/purple colour. It appears also that the transformation happens not only on my lips but also in the tube. Not my favourite shade in general and absolutely not what I supposed when buying it.

@Krysa13 that is so interesting! I honestly never tried the mermaid tears because I also thought that it would be green - even the outside box is green. Talk about misleading. I have the TF fairy tears, and it’s definitely different than what I anticipated based on the tube. I still like it, but green to lavender purple is quite the difference😂

@Krysa13 You’re not alone: I swatched a tester of that and Unicorn tears, and neither impressed me. I realize the Mystical Effects lipsticks are supposed to change color based on the wearer but, like you, I expected at least some noticeable peacock teal shift from Mermaid Tears. But nope, nothing. Sorry it didn’t work for you, either. 😞

@eshoe yes, I do own the Peacock Pearl and I love it! In fact when buying Mermaid Tears I was thinking of something similar but lighter and bluer in colour (and also it was on  some kind of promo). The problem was I didn't test it in store (against my habit) and bought it online blindly. Well, so much for impulsive promo shopping!

It’s my birthday and I’ll face-spam if I want to! It’s day 71 for me, but I’m up to 85 lipsticks because I’m a crazy woman who sometimes wears more than one a day. 

83 - Black Up Lipstick in No. 22:

I wore this most of today. It’s bright and iridescent, though paler/lighter than Urban Decay Firebird. It doesn’t feather/bleed at all. It’s so comfortably emollient, I don’t need balm under it. (I can say that about every Black Up cream bullet I’ve ever tried. Not the matte bullets, unfortunately.) 

84 - Sephora Lip Stories in Cash Money:

Wore this for a 2-hour birthday lunch. It also needs no balm, and applies much better that way. This is one of the only 2 Lip Stories I own, and one of my 3 green lipsticks. It’s... an approachable green, I think, for many people. This is the one I’d recommend to anyone who wants to try green lipstick but is also kinda scared by it. 

85 - Black Up Lipstick in No. 28:

This is a quick wear test for tomorrow’s airport odyssey. I’m trying to decide which purple to bring to Florida with me. I think this one’s the winner!

Happy belated birthday @WinglessOne!! All great choices as usual. I’ve been eyeing some of the black up lipsticks, especially now that there seems to be a ton in the sale section. That green color is pretty intriguing though... maybe I’ll have to give it a swatch in store 🤔 it’s a little intimidating but you make every color look wearable 😂

Thanks @cianni! I’m not sure if Black Up is leaving Sephora or they’ve got a new line of products coming, but now’s a great time to try at least one of their lipsticks. I don’t like their mattes (liquid and bullet): they feel too drying. (Then again, I don’t like 99% of the liquid matte formulas out there, so I’m a bit biased.) But I love most of their cream bullets. 

My favorite thing about the Sephora Lipstories green is its darkened hue. It’s definitely not the bright green most folks wear only on St. Patrick’s Day (or as my friends in Ireland call it, Drunk Americans Day 😂), so it’s slightly less intimidating than most greens I’ve seen. Hope you get to swatch it!
