100 Days of Lipstick Challenge

Hi BIC!

A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.

That color looks great on you, I am always surprised that some colors come out so differently when dabbed/blotted on vs straight from the tube. Beautiful gradient!

@MissPuff  I agree, it surprises me too! These days I’ve been playing with using my deeper colours a bit differently to make it work with my eye look (which is usually just mascara on work days 🙈)

i have aubergine too! I like what you did with it, I’ll have to give that a try after sharpening it, now that I know the not-so-secret secret sharpener trick 🙄

Haha yeah me too!!! I don’t know why they don’t advertise the hidden sharpener more! I would’ve bought more of these crayons for sure. It always mildly annoyed me that I had to work with the stump it’s turned into 🙄😂 @cianni

Day 87, lipstick 102: Lipstick Queen Cupid’s Bow in Daphne. I bought this a couple weeks ago, along with a few other Cupid’s Bow shades, because I already had Apollo and love that formula for a crayon (there aren’t many crayon formulas I like) but never bought more shades. Now I not only have more Cupid’s Bows, I finally have the second half of the Greek laurel story. (Hi, I’m a mythology nerd.) 

Looks more red in one photo than the other, right?

Sure, Daphne kinda looks like at least one other shade I’ve already worn in this thread—but this is the one I’d travel with. It’s an instant mood booster for me.

Thanks @divaknits! Those 2 photos show why I sometimes color correct my photos before posting them here. 😄 I want all my photos here to be as true to color as possible, to convey the same color you’d see if you were standing right in front of me. Some photos in my kitchen pull warm toned, others (like this one) pull a bit red/magenta toned. But they’re better than my main bathroom lighting that throws way too warm a tone on photos. 

Anyway... the bus photo’s more true to life, surprisingly (considering how bad the fluorescent lights usually are in buses). Daphne’s a raspberry shade. 🙂

Aaaaand the fiancé wanted the spiced plum back. He says I look like Elvira. She’s Mistress of the Dark, not Mistress of the Light. 😂 I’m determined to make Daydreamer work by putting the right combo together. Maybe black? Any suggestions?

@divaknits Are you trying to completely hide Daydreamer while wearing it? Or are you just trying to tone down the brightness? 

To tone it down, I’d do a soft ombré with a darker blue matte or cream bullet, or creamy lip liner, either of which I can softly blend atop that liquid matte with my finger. I did a quick and dirty version for this thread with a LORAC pale blue matte and my good friend, MAC Liptensity in Blue Beat. Lemme find those photos...

You could also top the entire light blue lip with a sheer lip topper that has a slightly darker iridescent tone. One of the Fenty gloss toppers (aside from the Gloss Bombs) would probably transform Daydreamer. An Urban Decay topper might also work, though I’m not a big fan of UD’s glosses. I wonder how Bite’s gloss toppers (especially Peacock Pearl) would look on Daydreamer? So many possibilities! 🙂 

If you’re trying to hide it instead... eh, I’d just remove it before your fiancé sees it. 😄 I mean sure, you could cover it with a dark blue or black, or a dark purple... but if it were me and I really wanted to conceal a liquid matte lip color from someone, I’d just keep one of those little travel tubs of petroleum jelly with me (or one of the small oil stick makeup removers Urban Decay used to make; not sure if they still do) and use it to remove the lipstick.

I like Daydreamer soo much better. I have no idea what I paired it with. I just know it’s from Maybelline. I hope I did it right. Thanks for the idea @WinglessOne. I also couldn’t find Peakcock Pearl. Guess I passed it up. Crazy! Guess I’ll have to go find it. Order it. Something.

Oh and by the way, I think I have Peacock Pearl. If I do I’m pretty sure I got it at TJ Maxx for a steal I couldn’t pass up. Now I want to test it. Off I go back into my stash.

Nah not trying to hide it. I just want to find a better way to wear it. I think my Maybelline blue may mimic your Blue Beat. Yes I think I’ll try this so my fiancé will quit staring at me - and not in a good way. 😆 Bless his little heart. Thanks @WinglessOne!

LIP PRODUCT 2 out of 195: 

Smashbox Be Legendary Lip Gloss in the shade Pout 

I got this as part of a Sephora Favorites lip set a couple years ago,... I don’t know that I would’ve bought it otherwise. It’s a decent gloss formula, but a tad sticky for my preference and not very pigmented. Even though it looks like a light baby pink in the tube, it goes on somewhat clear. I will say this, it lasts almost all day so I do like that aspect. But overall, I think it might be time to declutter this lippie,... Soooo I decided to post the evolution of this lippie. My daughter likes the light blue (KVD Everlasting Lipstick in Daydreamer) on me. Crazy. She doesn’t like lipstick so I was surprised. And she wasn’t lying. In fact, she’s brutally honest. It’s a little streaky, light, and drying for me so I decided to see if I could play with it a bit. Top photo is Daydreamer. Second is Daydreamer with Smashbox’s Always On Metallic Lip. Third is both with Fenty Beauty’s Diamond Milk. Daydreamer should be easy to conceal from the fiancé this way and give me a way to indulge in my bright lipstick fetish. Compromise. Forgive the blue ring. I got in a hurry.

This is for @WinglessOne who wanted to see swatch pictures of my two berries in question. Left is Framboise, right side is Heroic Pink. Looking at them now I can see Heroic is a bit more purple toned! I mean where’s the PINK! Lol and then look at the bullet swatches-(in the same positions)- office lighting is fine but in natural light? They look actual PINK! Each swatch is in office and natural lighting to compare. I’m a bit shook right now lol so I guess there is a slight difference here but on the lips they look very similar!

@SnugglePuggle94 Yep, they’re definitely different! 😂 Heroic looks more plum than berry, and not pink (despite bullet appearances). See, now you have to keep ‘em both. 🙂
