100 Days of Lipstick Challenge

Hi BIC!

A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.

Love this idea! I've been trying this out since the new year and really finding the products that I LOVE and ones that need to make their way out of my collection!

Photos from last night, after I removed the Glossier Play lipstick so I could test the one I was more excited to try: Smith & Cult Hydragloss in Iridescent Black. 

L: beauty lighting to show more of the glitter. R: my ridiculously warm-toned bathroom lighting.

It looks fantastic! For about 10 minutes. Then it shifts around into patches and pools, whether or not I press my lips together. I was constantly rubbing my lips together to redistribute color. This gloss reminds me a lot of an Urban Decay Iridescent black gloss topper I hated, except the S&C version is much more pigmented. Oh, and did I mention the feathering? Ugh. 

I’m crazy enough to give this a second chance soon. For starters, it absolutely needs a black lip liner.. I’ll also try it over a base coat of black matte (from a bullet) lipstick, and/or maybe over a full base of lip liner. If this gloss performs well as a topper, then I’ll keep it. If not—if it makes a feathering/bleeding mess—then I’ll return it to Ulta.

I gave it a second chance last night on nearly bare lips. It definitely works better without a base of balm. It does a very nice sheer coat! I almost prefer it sheered out than opaque. Also wearing both my Glossier Play Color Slide eyeliners.

I haven’t worn any makeup today, but might do some more short wear tests tonight.
