Hi BIC!
A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.
Thanks @Buootiful ! Have you had bad reactions to ColourPop eyeshadows (palettes and/or Super Shock singles) and eyeliners, or just the mascara? I remember hearing you had a bad reaction to one of the colored mascaras. 😞 I wanted to try their blue mascara, but I worried it’d kill my eyeballs like 95% of all mascaras on the market. I hope you’re feeling better now!
Yellow eyeliners—good ones, anyway—are hard to find. This CP liner didn’t hurt my eyes or make my skin itch. I love the pigmentation of the Glossier Play yellow liner but the texture’s so dry, it’s very hard to work with. I’m still surprised MUFE doesn’t have a yellow Artist Color Pencil. Now I’m on a mission to find you a yellow liner so you can copy my look, with or without a spring dress! 🙂
I have Yes, Please and Chasing Rainbows palettes with no issues except for dryness in my eyes during the day. Havent used them since the reaction.
I have had NYX blue mascara and didnt have any issues when I used it but it didnt have cyclopentasiloxane top of the ingredient list either. 😞 Man, too bad MUFE doesnt. I was going to get the yellow CP but it was sold out and thats why I got the red. @WinglessOne
Thanks @Weetart ! I love eyeshadow, but most days I let eyeliner do the heavy color lifting. 🙂
@WinglessOne I love that color on your skin tone! It's so beautiful and I love the glossy finish. <333
Thanks @PenelopeBT ! My favorite thing about the L’Absolu Lacquers, aside from the non-sticky feel, is how incredibly glossy they are. 🙂
You look stunning today @WinglessOne - love that yellow liner from colorpop 👍 love the whole look and that lip colour on you is ❤️. Lighting is everything and you start noticing it after awhile. There are settings to get that brightness so you can see true colours and it removes shadows. You are looking fresh and pretty today.
Thanks so much, @2manyperfumes ! The ColourPop eyeliner is definitely better than the Glossier Play yellow liner. It’s creamy, soft, and much easier to work with. 2 thumbs up!
I pull some of my selfies into Photoshop for color/temperature correction, but only so my photos show colors as accurately as possible—or as accurately as I’m willing to get them that day, because some days I just don’t wanna fuss with much correcting. 😄 I like to appear in photos the same way I’d appear if you stood right in front of me. So I don’t use any “beautification” settings or filters, or intentionally amp up the brightness (which alters my skin tones too much anyway). In fact, I often lower the black point on my kitchen selfies because those overheads are bright enough to cause some washout.
All my bathroom-lit selfies pull too warm, and/or sometimes have a green tint, and it drives me nuts. I keep saying I need to find other LEDs and perhaps rig a filter over the vanity lights. My countertop beauty mirror gets a lot more use than the big vanity mirror. 😄
I was always screwing up photos and my daughters would get mad at me because I ruined pics of them or me and them and they sat me down and gave me some lessons re taking good pics. Lol I guess I’ve improved and it’s only taken me years. I play around with settings and filters but try not to go too crazy. I have an old phone so it doesn’t take good photos unless I adjust settings to face, scenery, hi def, scenery etc. Very hard to find a good yellow liner that is bright. I’ve heard good things about Colorpop and Linda Halberg’s mood pencils.
Either way it looks fantastic on you @WinglessOne
Thanks @Anonymous !
Oh interesting with the lighting. I just head towards a window and hope for the best. My hubs had a nice lighting area set up for me at our old place but I never really got back into it when we moved. I should ask him to set me up again just for kicks! It was fun having a mini makeshift studio to play in:). @WinglessOne
Haha for me the best lighting to show the accurate colors of lipsticks or eye shadows is in my car. Or "good enough" lighting is in the office when I cant take a good selfie in the car 🙂 @heartsmyface @WinglessOne
@heartsmyface Daylight’s usually best, for sure. Sometimes I go to a window, or wait til I’m outside to take selfies. Once upon a time, I lived in a true Chicago loft and set up part of my space as a mini photo studio. This was back in the pre-smartphone days, so there was no instant checking of photos—which meant I was constantly tweaking the lighting and angles a bit to ensure at least one photo of a series was what I wanted. Those were the days! 😄 I do kinda miss it sometimes, but modern day digital 35mms and smartphone cameras are wonderfully convenient.
I love Rose Rouge on you (in the kitchen lighting!)
The difference in camera resolution! Wow!
Thanks @tsavorite ! That’s the iPhone XS rear camera vs. front camera. I think it’s good to take selfies with a higher res camera sometimes, to remind folks what skin actually looks like in real life. 😄 It’s a lot more convenient to use the front camera though; kinda hard to line up a good selfie with the rear camera sometimes.
Edit: To be fair, though, that rear camera sees much more sharply than my eyes do. I swear that camera picks up and accentuates EVERYthing. Some folks fear 10x mirrors because “oh no, I can see EVERY bump and pore!” Haha, that’s nothing compared to a newer phone’s rear facing camera. 😄
Ha, but if you do your makeup in a 10x mirror it tends to look flawless if you manage to resist the urge to keep adding more to cover the imperfections you can’t normally see! @WinglessOne
@heartsmyface 😂 As I’ve told many a friend and younger relative, “whenever you think you need to add more, check a 1x mirror first. Do not be fooled by the 10x!”
@WinglessOne And never ever ever sit in front of a 20x mirror with a pair of tweezers. Just don’t.
