100 Days of Lipstick Challenge

Hi BIC!

A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.

@itsfi  Thank you very much 😃😃.  I like this lip gel color. It’s something that is versatile.  Looks good alone and on top of lipstick.  But it has such an interesting mix of colors in it.

Lipstick 279: UOMA Badass Icon shade Chaka. 

Indirect shaded daylight.

Gotta say a bit about this brand before I talk about the lipstick. Last I heard, UOMA Beauty was sold to MacArthur Beauty after Sharon Chuter (UOMA’s founder) left the brand, and then she decided to challenge the sale—partly because she had no idea it was happening. That was last winter and I don’t know what’s happened since, and this reminds me to dig around to find out. If any of you have more info, please share! I’m still sad about UOMA suddenly falling into limbo and the apparent loss of a good black-owned brand. 💔

About the lipstick: this shade makes me super happy each time I put it on. Part of that’s because Chaka Khan is this shade’s namesake. I can’t wear it without hearing “Tell Me Something Good” in my head, (For the uninitiated: Chaka Khan was the lead singer of a band called Rufus during the ‘70s, which is when I first heard her voice.) It puts me in a very chill mood all day. Another reason I love this shade is—well, I mean look at that purple! Sure, I have other purples in my lipstick hoard, but I swear this one’s somehow unique. It helps that the Badass icon formula’s very good for a true matte finish bullet: non-drying, bold even coverage, and no feathering, bleeding, or dry crumby bits throughout the day. It’s very long wearing with a lovely gradient weardown. I’ve been nursing this lipstick since I first heard UOMA was in trouble, and I’ll be crushed if I can never restock it.

Thanks @ather ! Heh, music is my lifeblood (well, that and coffee) so songs frequently and randomly get stuck in my head—eh, unless I’m already listening music on my phone or playing piano. “Tell Me Something Good” is a mid-‘70s funk song that was very popular back then. 🖤

I’m not sure the brand will recover from the MacArthur sale. I remember many customers had issues getting their orders fulfilled after having paid for products (I think that started around the time the brand founder left), and MacArthur claimed they’d resolve all of that and continue the brand. But UOMA still seems to be in limbo. I wish I’d bought a backup of Chaka from Ulta before it went OOS, but I see they still have some other Badass Icon shades so… I might have to break my 2024 low-buy rule of not buying lipstick backups. 😅

@WinglessOne  I will have to look that song up! I do like a good funk song!!! And you play piano too! Wow! What is your favourite music to play? I took lessons as a kid but I think I’m only good at playing Christmas songs!

@ather  I improvise a lot of my own music, but I also love to play so many different kinds of music, it’s hard to narrow down my favorite. I’m a classically trained pianist and still love to play classical. Holiday songs are fun to play for a casual audience. 🙂
