Hi BIC!
A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.
Gorgeous @2manyperfumes! All these lippies look amazing on you! ๐
Hi @2manyperfumes,
Wow! What an amazing collection. They are all so pretty on you! I wish I could pull off this many shades!
Best,
Rebecca
Thank you @RebeccaBT โค๏ธ, some need the right makeup to pull off others look good on their own ๐
nice! @2manyperfumes I esp. like double dare and cathedral...Imma have to look into those... ๐
Thank you @treestar86 ๐ฅฐ Iโve had them on the back shelf for awhile but I wear lipstick all the time so I hope I can use them up as much as possible.
Thank you @melissabt ๐ฅฐ, yup Iโve used that one the most and itโs just about empty.
Yes to Mercy and Motรถrhead @2manyperfumes ! Great fun project to see! I canโt wear any liquids any longer. Nope. I do miss KVD Bachelorette in the bullet. It was so unique. So mad that one went away but I havenโt worn many of hers lately anyway. Some reds maybe. Do you wear her regular lipsticks still? Canโt recall. ๐ฅฐ
Thank you @Sunnysmom ๐ฅฐ, I prefer the lipsticks to the liquid lipsticks. I donโt wear them as often anymore but Iโm looking at a Cathedral and Piaf lately lol.
I like the formula of Mercy @lmaster better than Motรถrhead. Cathedral is another fave of mine. Hawkwind which I ran out of. Piaf is prettier in reality than it photographs.
@2manyperfumes Haha, all those plus my colorpop lippies said goodbye this week. They look good but feel awful on me.
Oh no @heartsmyface ๐ณ, thatโs too bad. Darn, some of my ABH liquid lipsticks are so drying. Thankful Iโm still okay with the formula. Itโs sentimental because it was the first brand i gravitated to when I was young and just starting to really find my own identity.
@2manyperfumes @heartsmyface Within the last 2 years Iโve decluttered my ColourPop liquid mattes, Sugarpill bullets and liquid mattes, and all ABH lipsticks (liquid mattes, bullets, and a gloss) for bad performance and/or comfort issues. I ditched KVD earlier than that, partly for performance/comfort issues but also because I decided to stop supporting her. [EDIT number 2: by โsupport,โ I mean financially support.] Now that sheโs left her brand, the only way Iโll ever try another KVD lipstick is if the reinvented brand drastically improves formulasโand I saw a report that all product formulas are staying the same, so... oh well.
[EDIT number 1, because I forgot to say: your swatches are pretty though, 2manyperfumes! ]
Obligatory disclaimer: Iโm not saying anyone else should or shouldnโt support Kat von D or any other brand for any reason. I have my reasons for not supporting certain brands. I wonโt police anyone elseโs purchasing decisions on the basis of brand support. I may have opinions about it, but I wonโt bully folks into ditching all their [brand] products and not buying [brand]โs stuff (well, unless the brand in question has clearly shown that it stands for or condones any kind of bigotry, racism, homophobia, etc.). Likewise, I expect no one to police my decision to refuse certain brands. Folks may have opinions about it, but that doesnโt mean folks should try to shame or bully me about it.
Youโve expressed it beautifully regarding the shaming, the policing and bullying aspects @WinglessOne and @heartsmyface . Makeup and skincare is so personal and individual. Short of it being a health hazard, one should be able to have that freedom. This militant, cancel culture, online bullying is ridiculous. Good grief! Iโm too old for the nonsense but still sensitive to certain validities of the argument. With respect to the brand, it has always been a bit out there and controversial. Then it went too far. That is my personal opinion.
Who knows how the new rebranding will change it for better or worse. Back in the day I really only used a couple of brands and the aesthetics and products worked well for me. I loved the makeup. I totally agree @WinglessOne people need to respect liberty and freedom but that doesnโt mean I condone bigotry, hatred, homophobia and racism. I feel all of it could have been avoided by concentrate on the art, creativity and brand. If you donโt want people to comment on your personal affairs donโt tell them. Its not edgy or avant garde to use a reference (word) that is banned because of its insidious conenotation. How hard is that.
@WinglessOne oh for sure people should feel free to use or not use what they wish without judgement. I donโt feel like because someone loves a product created by a problematic person that that means they support their beliefs. That would be crazy. Itโs makeup.
KVDs lipstick formulas never truly worked for me but I loved her as an artist and loved her color range so I made her products work. There is so much more out there now and I own so much that I had to let some go. Liquid lipsticks were never my thing. I tried.
Even though sheโs stepped away from the brand and taken her problematic behaviour with it, I donโt believe (at this time) I will buy from them in the future. The tattoo artwork made the brand special. Without that what is it about really?
