100 Days of Lipstick Challenge

Hi BIC!

A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.

I'll go ahead and apologize: this is going to sound like one of those obnoxious Influenster reviews where someone gives a bazillion stars to a product they got for free. But as a lipstick junkie, I swear this product checks all my boxes, and I am truly astounded by it. ❤️

I've kicked many a high end lipstick to the curb for their perfumey scent. This does have a slight scent, but it's so subtle, I can barely tell it's there...I can stick the tube right up to my nose, inhale deeply...and get *almost* nothing. Any mild scent that I do catch in the tube doesn't linger on my lips. Scent test, check ✔️

I'm almost confused by the weight vs pigment in this formula. It's extremely lightweight, almost balmy, yet still has all the pigment of a full coverage lipstick. The end result is what feels like a sheer lip but looks like a full cream. Full coverage, check. ✔️ And it applies evenly, with no patchiness or streaks that I get from some other balmier shades. Easy, even application, check ✔️

The wear time seems pretty nice as well. I've been wearing it for three hours today (and wore it for several hours last night as well...I wish I had checked the clock then), and it hasn't settled noticeably in my lines or gathered on dry spots. It has worn down a bit in the middle, but has done so gracefully and evenly. Wear test, check ✔️

It stays comfy over time as well; I haven't needed (or even thought about needing) balm yet. Comfort test, check ✔️

No feathering either ✔️

And an honorable mention is due for the case. It's simply gorgeous to me. I don't generally like gold, but this one is so well done. Fancy yet understated in its subdued gold with the intricate art deco etching. ✔️

Yup, it's a love, and a freebie. Sometimes that does actually happen 😂

I won't pay full price for more because I just can't bring myself to pay that much ($42) for a lipstick, but I will be watching for a deal on more and scooping some up!

Yeah, lots of freebie reviews I don't believe but @RGbrown you know lipstick and I am 100% confident you've given it to us straight. Thanks for the list. It will help me think about what to look for in lip products. I need to start using what I have. Beautiful lip and hopefully there will be a deal so you can get other shades!

It's definitely important to figure out what you want in a lipstick. It took me quite a while to discover my priorities, and sadly, during those years before I figured it out, I was buying all sorts of stuff that just didn't fit my needs. I didn't nail it down until I started decluttering 😱

I don't actually need to buy more...my collection is huge as it is, and I really should try to use some up. But the right deal might sway me anyways 😂

I really need to do a second round myself. I've got it down to "I like everything I have", but I still have sooooo freaking many, including multiple dupes of several shades, that I should go through again and be a little more cutthroat. Get it down to a collection of "True Loves". It gets so hard when everything is already a like though.

Guilt is hard to overcome, whether over the money wasted or the product wasted. I try to frame it as a learning experience instead, ie "now I know I don't like this, and I won't make that mistake again". While I may have wasted something in the process, I know I can do better going forward. And forcing yourself to use up something you hate is just bad juju. I've hate panned a few things myself, and there are some things I can tolerate more than others, but if it just doesn't work, sometimes it just has to go. 😊

So true @RGbrown. I've got to get over the guilt and stop forcing myself to hate pan things. I'll be moving next year and can't wait to reorganize my things. Hopefully that will be the motivation I need to declutter. Good luck to you on your decluttering!

You spoke my thoughts exactly @ShortErica! I do have a question for you @RGbrown . On your lips the color appears to me as a pinkish red. I need to see your thoughts.

I wouldn't call it pinkish at all IRL (my camera just sucks 😋). If anything, it's almost orangeish, but not really. When I swatch it alone, it just looks like a soft red to me, but when I throw some pinky red and warmer reds around that swatch, the "hint of orange" shows up more. I hate to call it an orange red because I don't see the orange much at all on it's own, but it's definitely not a pinky red either.

Left: CT Kissing in So Marilyn (warm red, brownish undertones)

Center, top to bottom: MAC Liptensity in Mulling Spices (fruit punch red? Rich red that leans pinkish), Gucci Goldie Red, Ulta Red Carpet Red (very berry/pinky red)

Right: TPSY Absoliptly in Cherry On Top (closer to a true red)
