100 Days of Lipstick Challenge

Hi BIC!

A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.

Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer in Rose Talisman. This is the shade I bought during Sephora’s recent 50% off sale, once I realized I didn’t already own it. I have too many Lacquers. 😄 And sure, many of them are very similar shades of rose and red. But I love ‘em all anyway. This one has a subtle gold shimmer that, of course, isn’t visible in my photos.

You can totally see the shimmer and it looks lovely @WinglessOne I think I may have this one too. I have one shade and wasn't knocked out by it. I ended up unexpectedly eating a burger en route to somewhere in the cart. Some of the color held on, but not all of it. It looked terrible and felt I would have rather had something that was totally wiped out from my lunch rather than leaving a weird blank patch in the middle and color at the edges. I suppose I should give it a shot again, so maybe I will in the next couple days. No burger for sure.

I’m far less fussy about lipsticks (that aren’t liquid mattes) lasting through a meal. I always expect to reapply after I eat. That’s just the nature of non-matte lipstick. Whenever I notice a lipstick has lasted through a meal, I’m pleasantly surprised. Lacquers don’t hold up against most foods, nor do I expect them to, so I just plan to wipe everything off and reapply. I realize that’s a big deal for some folks, but not me. Besides, I tend to dab my lips with a napkin throughout my meal anyway, so my lipstick’s coming off one way or another. 😂 If you give your Lacquer another shot, I hope it works better for you! 

I do expect liquid mattes to survive non-greasy/oily meals because they’re specifically formulated (and marketed) to be long lasting and budge-proof. That’s one of my wear test criteria for liquid mattes—though most never make it that far because they fail my comfort criteria hard.

@WinglessOne I never expect a lipstick or gloss to make it through a meal. This one partially did and looked horrible. I would vastly prefer my lippie not to make it instead of looking bad. I'll see how it looks the next time around after food. I just don't want to be considered fussy about it. I can't stand long wearing lipsticks that fade or wear unevenly. That was the case here.

Flesh Strong Flesh Lipstick in Siren

Out of my Lipstick Day order, this was the one I had the highest hopes for, but I also knew it was the one mostly likely to disappoint. It is the most perfect shade of dark purple I think I've ever seen, but sadly, like many purples, application is beastly. It goes on patchy from the beginning and never really evens out fully. Once I get it as even as it's gonna get, the second I relax my lips from smile mode, I've got stripes in my lip lines. I've tried it bare lipped, with balm, with Mac prep+prime, and even with a black base, but nothing has made a difference. 😥

Other than pigment, the formula for this line doesn't seem too bad. It's billed as satin, and while it's definitely not quite as creamy as I'd like, it's a far cry from matte. If I were interested in any of their other shades, I'd give them another chance...purples are hard for dang near everyone, and don't always represent how the rest of a line performs. 

I have to smile to show off the stripes as best I can...

...but this is how I really feel about it 😞
