100 Days of Lipstick Challenge

Hi BIC!

A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.

Today I tried a new-to-me lipstick formula: Melt Liquid Matte. Sure, I’ve sworn off liquid mattes (aside from NARS and MUFE), but Melt’s color range suckered me into buying one. I chose the shade Toke. I’m not keeping it because—well, just look at it. See how patchy it is? No, it’s not clinging to dry spots. 

Y SO PATCHY THO

It’s a very thin watery formula. I wish the doe foot was angled for easier application. It dries down to a velvet matte finish, but it’s also uncomfortably dry, even on top of balm and lip primer (I wear both each time I wear any liquid matte). Within 5 minutes, it wore away from my innermost side of my lips in an ugly gritty way. This is also what ABH liquid mattes do on my lips, which is why I hate them. Now I hate Melt liquid mattes, too. 

So I thought “can my good friend, Fenty Universal Gloss Bomb, fix this mess?” Well, it did its best: 

Much better looking! But not enough to save Toke.

I love how this looks! Unfortunately, it turned the grittiness into goopiness. 😞 At least it didn’t feather, thanks to my primer base and the MUFE lip liner I applied before the liquid matte. But nope, even Gloss Bomb can’t save this lipstick. 

Wiped everything off and applied one of my other new lipstick shades: ColourPop Lux in Ur Thriving. It’s a coral pink that actually works on me, as long as I ombré it with a darker color—in this case, NARS Precision Lip Liner in Mariachi. I’m also wearing a Melt blush (another new-to-me formula) that I like a lot, so of course I won’t grade Melt based on their liquid matte’s crummy performance. 🙂 

I’m much happier than I look in this photo. 😄

That’s too bad @WinglessOne I was disappointed with this liquid lip death Cherry and I love the shade of Toke but horrible once it is dry - sandpaper grit and dryness.  I will try mine with a lip salve I picked up and I have a red lip stain too.  The second colour is pretty as well 👍.

@2manyperfumes  I hope you have better luck salvaging your Melt liquid matte than I did! Melt’s lipstick shades are killer but good grief, no color’s worth such discomfort—and patchiness is just added insult.
