Hi BIC!
A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.
@Girly2Shoes @Thank you. The earrings were a gift from my hubs before we got married. He was a sweetie and replaced a pair I lost travelling to Italy. They mean a lot to me;)
@heartsmyface Too bad it doesnโt last longer. It works so well with your hair color(s)!
@WinglessOne @I actually donโt mind reapplying as long as when my lipstick fades it either fades evenly or all at once. Thereโs nothing more bothersome than a lipstick that fades feathered or everywhere but the lip meridian. This one is good in that sense. All at once with no staining.
I really like it. It just needs a lot a reapplying. Not a bad thing at its price point. @Weetart
Continuing my gloss gauntlet with 2 wear tests today.
Lipstick no. 177: Julep Ultra Hydrating Lip Gloss in Boss.
Who knows how long Iโve had this, but it canโt stay in my collection. It has that molasses application feel, and I had to dip in at least 4 times to get a single coat per lip. Good thing it has a large doe foot, otherwise it wouldโve taken ages to spread this stuff across my lips. Once applied, I felt like I was wearing 10 coats of Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask topped with candle wax. And the color payoff was really disappointing for such a bold-in-the-tube gloss. And it was goopy between my lips. Nopity nope. I wiped it off immediately after taking this photo. Removal was not easy: it was so heavy and sticky, I had to use a lip scrub to get all that residue (not color, just that yucky feel) off my lips.
178: Kevyn Aucoin The Molten Lip Color in Bronze.
This feels so much better! Iโm still wearing it and I can feel it on my lips, but itโs not an obnoxiously heavy feel, more like midweight. It has the same level of stickiness as Fenty Gloss Bomb, which I donโt think is terrible at all. It wears off the innermost side of my bottom lip in graceful ombrรฉ fashion; that combined with this particular bronze shade makes it look lovely on me. A cup of coffee made it feather, so it needs a liner or primer barrier to prevent that. I need to compare this to my Lancรดme LโAbsolu Lacquer bronze before deciding whether or not to keep both.
Really beautiful shade (2 nd) @WinglessOne . Bronze and shinny suits you. Hee hee: the caption of the first photo made me laugh! I hate that feeling some gloss have (and I got to admit I stopped looking for a good one. Here we go: I've thrown the baby with the bathwater! ๐).
Thanks @MlleJuju! There are some great glosses out there, now that brands are starting to create lighter weight formulas. They donโt all feel like thick melted wax anymore. ๐ So far, no gloss has outperformed my beloved LโAbsolu Lacquers, but there are good contenders! Julep ainโt one of โem.
@WinglessOne Well, I'm gonna have to look for them then! ๐
Love the Kevyn Aucoin on you @WinglessOne very flattering color. Too bad the other was such a failure
@WinglessOne overly thick lip glosses are the worst feeling! Too bad because its a nice color on you!
Thanks @Kim888! I probably shouldโve expected a super thick feel since that gloss is called โultra hydratingโ but good grief. ๐
Ooh, they are both nice on you, but the bronze is fab! @WinglessOne
I wore my KA Molten again the other day (the dark one...Carbon iirc? Too lazy to go look at it lol) and it feathered a bit on me too. I seem to recall it doing the same when I wore it for my test here a few months back as well, but I have nothing even close to it and I love the color, so it's a tentative keeper for me for now, even though a primer or liner isn't really something I'm willing to do very often. For the right shade, I guess I can make it work every now and again lol.
I am curious how close that is to Vertige; it looks like it might be a smidge lighter, but it's always hard to tell from one pic, especially when I'm comparing it solely to my memory ๐
That Julep looks lovely on you; too bad the formula is so terrible!
@RGbrown Oh, Vertige is definitely darker and, on me, more red based. Compared to Vertige, this Bronze gloss looks like a new copper penny, especially in warmer lighting. Comparison time!
This photo confirms my decision to keep Bronze, as long as I can stop the feathering. I also have Carbon but havenโt worn it for this challenge yet.Carbonโs more temperamental for me, but Iโll wear it soon without a balm base. That might fix its attitude problem. The things we do to make certain shades work. ๐
Huh, I donโt think Iโve worn Vertige for this challenge yet, either. Note to self!
@WinglessOne Eeee๐ฌ no thank you to waxy formulas. It looks pretty but not worth that horrible feeling.
@heartsmyface It was so uncomfy! I know some folks love that super thick balm/mask coated feeling on their lips, but not me. A friend of mine sleeps wearing at least 4 layers of the Laneige lip mask for that reason and I think sheโs nuts. ๐ I do a single layer, topsโand Iโm the one who canโt wear 95% of liquid mattes!
