100 Days of Lipstick Challenge

Hi BIC!

A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.

@Buootiful Wow they all look amazing on you!! What is your opinion on the kylie jenner lipsticks?? Ive been wanting to know if they are as good as the hype

Thanks! @ather. Kylie formula is ok, it wears out in the middle but after eating it is crumbly and i dont like the way it feels. This is definitely a return.

@Buootiful I love the Smashbox! How very  2019 Pantone color of the year of you! 😍😍 The Kylie does look nice on you, but that sucks that it’s drying even with balm! I was a big fan of when you wore the KVD Plath though, so at least you know you have a more comfortable formula in a similar color!

Day 21: Smashbox Always On Metallic Matte in Burning Love. Went for a more different vibe than I usually wear and actually like it! It’s my first metallic and very pretty. Described as a “metallic blue burgundy.” Not seeing much of the blue in it but the burgundy and slight shimmer look is pretty. Nice matte lip but not too heavy or drying. It’s nice enough to go out with and also for a amped up office look. What do you think?

Gah, gorgeous color! I have one Smashbox metallic matte that I wore and decided to *keep*, but said I wouldn't buy any more. This shade is tempting that resolve! Beautiful!

Pretty sure the blue in this one just keeps the burgundy on the berry/purple side of that dark red spectrum, instead of leaning more brown like many can do. And that keeps it squarely in my realm of WANT NOW 😛

Thank you @RGbrown! So I see now, when a lippie has a "blue" in it, you don't necessarily see it since it just helps the shade in the tone spectrum. 

I'm in love with it so I recommend it but one con is that it dries really quickly and is a little bit hard to apply- I botched my upper lip at first because the applicator is different than I'm used too lol I applied another coat and that fixed it up. But other than that, it's an amazing lipstick!

Thank you @cianni! I found it on Ulta 🙂 And this one has surprised me so much! Not only is it lightweight but it holds like a brick! No transfer besides maybe like one fleck of sparkle when I touch my finger to my lip lol and very minimal on my drink! Definitely worth it!

So I'll start by saying I'm not a lip junkie. I don't have many lip products but I have a few unopened sample size ones. This group has inspired me to at least try my samples and maybe even pan them. 

This is Sephora Rouge Cream in the shade Belly Dancing. My husband requested a free sample online for me which was sweet. I'm not a big red person - I feel like most reds make my teeth look yellow. But I decided to try this one with my red holiday dress for our office party.

The left picture is at the beginning of the day. Please ignore my still wet hair. The picture on the right is after breakfast and lunch. It has worn off and faded but I don't think it looks terrible.

After one use, I'd say red still wouldn't be my everyday color but I'll give it a go occasionally. The formula is okay. I'm sure a lip liner would help with application since I couldn't get a crisp line but it didn't smear which was good. I think the one thing I didn't like was the scent. It smelled a bit waxy and reminded me of getting Wet N Wild lipsticks in the 90s.

I'm looking forward to trying some of my other lip options and sharing with this group. Out of curiosity, does anyone have a guess for how long it takes to use a bullet sample? I'm thinking of putting a few in a project pan but as I don't have much lip product experience I wanted to establish realistic goals. Thanks!

Welcome to the challenge, @ShortErica! That’s a really nice shade of red. I even like the stain it left behind as it wore away. And your teeth don’t look yellow at all to me in these photos. 🙂 Good (and thoughtful) sample choice by your husband! 

Good question about sample (and mini) bullets. It just depends on how often you use it. I’ve gone through a mini bullet of Lipstick Queen Frog Prince in about 3 months. It’s what I wear whenever I’m not wearing another lipstick on my lips. Since it’s more of a tinted balm, I have to reapply it throughout the day. And I always keep a mini Frog Prince in my bag/purse, and always travel with it (I usually wear it on plane travel days)... it gets a lot of use between other lipsticks. 

But I don’t think I’ve ever completely finished any other mini/sample bullet—not even my mini MAC Rebel (another one I always travel with), which is still half full. Hmm... next year, I think I’ll pick a mini and see how long it takes to pan it with once- or twice-a-week usage.
