100 Days of Lipstick Challenge

Hi BIC!

A lot of us have talked about our huge lipstick collections, and with the passing of another National Lipstick Day, I took stock of mine. I have about 200 lipsticks and glosses and realized, I only wear about 20 of them! So I'm challenging myself (and whoever else wants to join) to use more of them. I'm going to try to wear a different lipstick every day for the next 100 days.

MAC Liptensity in Blue Beat.

This is kind of a wear test: I’m at the point in this section of my collection where I decide which dupe colors to keep, based on formula performance. As some of you have noticed, I have, oh, a few blue lipsticks. 😄 And if I really wanna declutter, I’ll have to let go of some more blues. Not sure Blue Beat will be one of ‘em.

Really though, I need to pull out my 2 dupes for a side-by-side. I forgot that Blue Beat feathers without a lip liner or primer barrier, but it reminded me around the 3 hour mark. Not necessarily enough to doom it to the declutter box... just something I need to keep in mind.

Thanks @heartsmyface! Yeah, it’s beyond time for me to declutter my lipstick collection. It ain’t fun but it’s gotta be done.

I’m trying to get my total number of lipsticks down to 100 or less. Blues and purples are hard because those are my favorites, but I know the trickiest purge will be reds and berries. I have so many dupe or near-dupe reds and berries, and there’s no reason to have so many tubes of the same color—well, no rational reason anyway. 😂

@heartsmyface The serious answer? Simplicity and less anxiety. I’m tired of having so many lipsticks and regularly using just 10-20 of them. Also tired of digging through a ton of lipsticks to find “the perfect color” or “that one color I know I have... somewhere... ugh.” For me, having too much lipstick is anxiety inducing—and I actually have an anxiety disorder, so the more I can do to help myself out in that area, the better. 🙂 There’s also the practical “think of how much money I’ve wasted on all this lipstick I never even use, what’s wrong with me” aspect, which usually triggers my anxiety. 

I’ve rearranged my makeup area and set up spaces for a specific number of lipsticks. I don’t want more lipstick than will fit in those 2 areas. I know that seems stressful to some folks, but to me it’s a chance to breathe more easily and be able to easily find what I’m looking for, and stop beating myself up over something as silly as lipstick.

That’s a very valid reason.   If it’s an unnecessary  source of mental stress for you i’m sure you’re going to feel much better having a lot of it out of your life so you can breathe easier in your space.   Makeup is supposed to be fun and if it’s turning on you then yeah, time to make some changes.   @WinglessOne  

I recently easily decluttered a bunch of palettes but when it came to the lipsticks I fell short on the decluttering and could only part with a few.  They’re my weak spot.

@heartsmyface Heh, I was just telling someone else that eyeshadow’s much easier for me to declutter than lipstick. I don’t wear eyeshadow everyday, but lipstick’s been my near-daily thing for the last 30 years, so... yeah. At least some lipsticks have been much easier to ditch than others. 

Makeup is still fun! It’s just that I have waaaay more lipstick than any other item in my makeup collection. This declutter exercise won’t stop me from buying more lipstick, but it will make me think about whether or not I really need yet another berry that looks exactly (or even almost exactly) like MAC Rebel, for instance. 😄

@Mcakes, actually I forgot about TF lippies since they was quietly releasing Satin Matte collection. 😂 I’m not sure I can forget about them on the next sale though 😛
