How long should we be cleansing our face?

Hi! I have sensitive, acne prone skin along with dark marks and blackheads.

I have heard a lot about the importance of washing our faces and how k-beauty is at the top of the game in that aspect. I wanted to know, how long would you all recommend to lather soap on our face before washing it?

Also, I tried to double cleanse with a cleansing oil Skinfix Barrier+ Foaming Oil Hydrating Cleanser 6 oz/ 177 mL and cleansing balm, Clean it Zero separate times. However, it seemed that no matter how much I washed my face, the oil was still on my face. Due to this, I have been using micellar water, Bioderma Micellar Water to double cleanse instead.

Is there another method to double cleansing or products anyone would recommend to me? I am fairly new in trying Korean skincare.

Thank you!

@kizaaa What order do you use your products in? I use my balm or oil first and the cleanser second.

I use Kose - Softymo Speedy Cleansing Oil (technically J-beauty) first to break down oil, spf, dirt, and makeup if I’m wearing any. Then I use Byoma Creamy Jelly Cleanser (questionable if this counts as K-beauty). I don’t have any issues with it being too oily after. I don’t use either for too long. Generally, I spend more time using the oil for longer and really work it into my skin, especially if I’ve worn makeup that day. I don’t use soap as it’s far too drying for me.

@JoSometimes I haven’t used them in quite some time, but when I did, I would use either or. I either took my makeup/sunscreen off with cleansing balm or cleansing oil. I never used them together because I was worried that it would break me out.

Then, I used a warm microfiber towel to wipe off the balm/ cleansing oil. After, I followed up with a regular cleanser. I wanted to ask, is oil cleansing/cleansing balm necessary if we’re not wearing makeup? This is because many influencers say that we should do it everyday, but I’m not too sure.

Thank you very much for your recommendations!

Re: How long should we be cleansing our face?

@kizaaa In the chemistry world, like dissolves like. Makeup, spf, and even your own natural oils from your skin don’t dissolve in water and for good reason. The last thing you’d want is to sweat off your makeup! Since those things don’t mix with water, we need something other than water to dissolve them off your skin, hence the cleansing oil. But when it comes to rinsing off the oil, oil and water don’t mix either, so one final step is necessary as a go-between oil and water is the cleanser.
