Lights, camera phones, lip gloss! On Tuesday, January 22, 2018, I attended Smashbox Cosmetics’ LA Looks Good On You launch party. From beginning to end the event was phenomenal. I was promptly greeted upon arrival by the valet parking attendants who stunned me with three words: free valet parking. If you’re a native to LA just like the Smashbox Company, then you know that this is almost never found.
Shortly after I arrived I was greeted kindly and punctually by Kimberly, who is part of the Smashbox marketing team. We chatted while I waited for my plus one. She made me feel comfortable and cared for. She presented me with a gift bag graciously provided by Sephora Cosmetics. Kimberly was my first inside look at the brand. She was truly kind, sincere, and enthusiastic. After my plus one, Tika arrived we glided into the party like a brand new lip gloss. There was free pizza, a margarita truck (YES, I said margarita TRUCK), complimentary rolled ice cream, popcorn, and delicious appetizers circulating around the outside and inside the area. As we observed the outside which was draped in multicolored lights, we grabbed a jalapeno and cucumber margarita and noticed that there was even more to see on the inside.
Tika and I scurried into the warehouse room that looked like a photoshoot wonderland. Giant replicas of the LA Looks Good On You lip glosses, a room of wall-to-wall primer (the one that I happened to have on my face that night), and a makeup station complete with makeup artists ready to touch you up or let you try on some new product! Additionally, there was an artist there who was ready to customize your complimentary makeup bag on the spot! After walking through we noticed more of this picturesque playground… 70’s style photobooth camper! We, of course, indulged in taking a few pictures by the end of the night. We ended our evening by meeting a new friend and splitting a Fruity Pebble ice cream taco for dessert.
While sitting on a pink pouty-lipped swing, I noticed something very important. There was not just one type of person at these events. It's not just beauty bloggers, makeup artists, or marketing executives. Everyone presented who they were and embraced their own style, background, and preferences. Smashbox represents itself as a brand that keeps up with the times and continues to evolve just like its consumers. LA Looks Good On You set the foreground of this event by encouraging a fresh new way to metamorphose our own style through this new line.
Attending this event was a true privilege. What sticks with me was the kindness and enthusiasm of the staff we met. I spend my fair share of dollars at Sephora and on Smashbox in general. I have purchased from both for years and needless to say, I have no plans on stopping that cycle.
I’d also like to thank Sephora’s Beauty Insider team, specifically, Brenda ( @BrendaBT ). She had been my liaison throughout this experience and I’m really glad that I joined the Beauty Insider Community. I’ll continue to be an active participant online and in person
