Does the points multiplier event help you level up?

I was going to make a purchase for more points with the intention of going to the next insider tier while spending less money. Now I’ve just considered that maybe it doesn’t work that way. Can anyone help explain it to me? Is this event purely for point earning and does not really multiply for the track to the VIB and Rouge tiers?

@savysmilesalot The point multiplier won't help you hit the next tier but spending more money will.  The only thing the point multiplier will do is get you more points faster.

@savysmilesalot - You still have to spend the same dollar amount to reach each tier.  The extra points only count towards your points total.  Points count toward your points total; dollars spent count towards each tier.
