Hyaluronic acid creams and affordable, non-drying cleansers

Hi friends! I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions for semi-affordable hyaluronic acid creams like Sunday Riley's Tidal and YTTP's kale cream. My skin hates straight gel textures (I tried Boscia's new moisturizer and it left a sticky shiny cover all over, dried out my skin, and broke me out), but the texture of these two creams is perfect for my combo skin. I don't tolerate fragrance well, though the kale oil in YTTP seems to be fine. I'm also looking for a new cleanser after I finish up my YTTP sample. I've tried countless and most seem to be ineffective at removing the grime (I don't really wear makeup other than mascara, but I do use tinted mineral sunscreen)--these would be Glossier, Cerave hydrating--or stripping like Cerave foaming and LRP gel or foaming cream. Again I try to avoid fragrance, as well as sulfates and comedogenic oils. I actually like YTTP, though I know it will be too drying once it gets cooler and I can't really justify dropping that kind of cash on a cleanser.

Hi, @goosey3. Snail secretion filtrate is another name for snail slime (i.e. the secretion that's left behind when a snail moves/is agitated), and it's a very popular ingredient in Korean skincare products. This is because the mucin is filled with nutrients - proteins, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, etc. It's also worth noting that this ingredient is not cruelty-free. The snails are not killed during the harvesting process. However, they are stimulated/agitated/stressed to induce the production of mucus.  I'd recommend checking out the thread below to see what others have said about snail secretion filtrate. https://community.sephora.com/t5/Ingredient-Sticklers/What-the-heck-is-snail-secretion-filtrate/m-p/3870404 You could also google "snail secretion filtrate" or "snail slime," and find a plethora of articles that give a more in-depth ingredient explanation. I hope this helps!

I love Drunk Elephant, Bare Minerals, BECCA, Ole Henriksen and Too Faced.  Dr. Bandt isn't really cruelty free because they sell in China, where products are legally required to be tested on animals to be sold. One way to double check if the product is truly cruelty free is to go onto the Sephora China website and search for the product there

@Rachel83706 Sorry to hear this happened to you! There's a whole thread about this happening to other users that dates back to 2016 so you're not alone on this! I will leave the link down below for you to visit and read more about others experiences and solutions. I think for the time being, it's best for you to toss the product that gave you a bad reaction- it's not worth the risk! My favourite clean brand is living proof. It’s the only silicone free shampoo and conditioner I have ever found that I really like. It doesn’t dry out my hair or cause damage. It’s really difficult to find a brand that actually helps. There is a 250 point sample available right now so you can try it.

Stay away from Retinoids.. I had to stop using Retin-A.  The obvious ones as well.. parabens, extra chemicals etc.  There are some essential oils that you should stay away from as well.  With many EO's it depends on the delivery and amount.  I know its hard but try not to worry too much while being mindful at the same time.  I went a little overboard and became stressed about everything I used lolhttps://www.babycentre.co.uk/x536449/is-it-safe-to-use-essential-oils-while-im-pregnant

The rich volcanic soil of Haiti’s Les Cayes region is the sustainable source of our vetiver root from which we draw the unctuous, earthy oil found in Commodity Vetiver.  It is here that we’ve helped organize a cooperative of over 250 Haitian farmers whose families have been perfecting the craft of vetiver cultivation for generations. This co-op allows the farmers to put a portion of their pooled profits back into the community, enabling a more efficient harvest, fixing roads, creating electricity and improving the overall infrastructure of their villages.  Did you know your fragrance could do all that?  Caroline Sabas, Master Perfumer of Vetiver.    Watch Master Perfumer Caroline Sabas talk about her creation.

@M3owza I really like tarte’s tarteguard 30spf sunscreen. It doesn’t contain dimethicone, but it is fragranced. I don’t mind it, my skin loves it (combo acne prone), but the scent does bug some people. Another lightly scented product that I like is the Coola Face 30spf (chemical sunscreen) (there is an unscented version, I haven’t tried). Drunk Elephant is unscented and cone free, but it’s a little glittery and I don’t like the natural smell; you might not mind it. I haven’t tried the Coola sun silk drops, but if you don’t mind a chemical sunscreen, you might like that. I would also check out the Dr Dennis Gross dark spot defense broad spectrum spf 50. Depending on your sensitivity to silicones, Farmacy or Dr Jart every sun day might work. I have yet to find a cheaper sunscreen that doesn’t use any dimethicone, unfortunately.

I have noticed a lot of stores selling beauty products have started adding more and more supplements. From what I have read so far there have not been many conclusive studies on most of the ingredients in these items like biotin, tumeric, etc. I see in reviews a lot of anecdotes from users of the products stating there hair is thicker or their skin is glowing, but then I read articles like this: https://www.vox.com/2018/4/9/17199164/beauty-vitamin-collagen-turmeric-biotin. Is there anyone with links to studies on beauty supplements or any doctors or nutritionists in the community with an opinion on this subject? So far, it seems the supplements don't do anything, but some can actually cause serious side effects including liver damage. Any information is much appreciated.

Chantecaille Future Skin foundation. I have the same problem with finding coverage products that won’t irritate my skin, and at first I thought this foundation would make me break out or look oily by just looking at it online, but when I received it I was blown away. It’s oil free and describes itself as a gel but its more of a creamy texture (which I like much more) & I never get oily during the day when I wear it. It is medium to full coverage depending on how much you put on and feels really light weight on. It’s pricey but honestly it beats breaking out or getting oily throughout the day. I’d recommend emailing chantecaille support or going into a store that carries it to ask for a sample before- if you do decide on it- just to find your correct shade. Best of luck!

@Commodity, thanks for getting back to @LCResz and I! It's much appreciated!  I'm curious as to what is meant by partnering with the Kanak population? In particular, is there some kind of ownership over the land and the resources used or an investment made in Commodity and profit sharing? I ask because I'm Canadian and have lived in indigenous communities so I have observed a very broad range of partnerships with private enterprises.

There are several ingredients that cause acne and I have found ONE bb that works but it got discontinued. Silicones and the ones and cones that are silicones. Silicone doesnt list as silicone.perfume- I finally found a silicone free foundation ( make up forever) only to break out fro the perfume. Who the hell needs perfume in their foundation?too much alcoholcoconut anythingoils even some of the organic/natural oils. The only  thing I have been able to wear without break outs is cover fx bb gel form acne prone skin. All of the other foundations and bbs that allegedly help acne prone skin have another ingredient that causes it. So oil free is BS, silicone free means checking ALL of the silicones, parfum free, and coconut free. Some of the organics with fruit extracts, this oil, that oil cause and as well. Is there anyone who has a foundation that won't cause acne???

I have really dry skin and the combination of the c-firma and the b hydra gel has been working wonders on my skin. I agree it has a funny smell but when I apply the rest of my products I cant smell it anymore. Both of those products have really changed my morning skincare routine, I cant go a day without using them. If your still on the fence Sephora has the duo in a set for $23, if you want to try before investing on the full size, you might not like. Thats what I did, but fell in love and bought the full size before i even got to finish the minis.
