Too Much

Is there such a thing? My hubby has asked me today to cut back my spending and slow it down. LOL. How horrible am I that I need him to call me out? I feel bad because I have like 3 orders coming in the mail. Is anyone else guilty of hiding bags or boxes?

Re: Too Much

I think that cheek products are my new weakness (blushes/bronzers/highlighters). I love them, use them all the time, and sooooo pretty! It takes me awhile to use up just one of these things though....so I will have to keep that in mind the next time I want to buy one of these things.

Re: Too Much

Yeah...I definitely hide, downplay and shift my items about as well XD  As long as it's within your means though there shouldn't be too much of an issue.  I do say the same though for my BF  I find his new Pathfinder books in the weirdest places XD

Re: Too Much

I say only worry when it's becoming a financial burden or causing problems in that area, or when a whole shelf of makeup comes crashing down on your, OR if you notice you have so much makeup some of it is getting moldy or isn't used!

I personally have a TON of makeup that I don't use and have finally come to the realization that there CAN be too much of a good thing! I really don't need that extra eyeshadow or blush no matter how pretty it is, especially if I know I have 10 more brand new ones in storage ath ome. Smiley Sad I'm lucky my bf doesn't complain but it's probably considering he spends all his money on fancy bike gear! haha.

Have you tried doing makeup swaps with friends, or investing in free gifts? Those are great ways to get mini sizes of items to try and stocking up on your daily essentials and I love to buy those at department stores!

Re: Too Much

Gosh, Diana! You got me picturing me in front of a giant vanity of lipsticks, eye shadows, powders, blushes, foundations, liners, mascaras, glosses, bronzers, palettes, brushes, lotions, cleansers, toners, serums, treatments, and perfume falling on me! In a funny, comical relief kind of way, not in the "actually getting pelted with product" kind of way, haha!

Re: Too Much

Actually, one of my drawer organizers did topple over on me and pelted me with shampoos and conditioners stored on top, along with my UD and Smashbox collections from the drawers! Hubby had just about had a conniption laughing at me!

Re: Too Much

Ouchies! The heart to you on that comment was given in a sympathetic sense for the toppling of the items!

Looks like it's time to invest in a sturdier drawer! Smiley Wink

Re: Too Much

Sometimes I do feel like I get a little 'spend happy' a few weeks ago I purchased a new dress, purse, shoes, and a shrug online in less than an hour. I usually do a decent job of wearing what I have and then just shopping for what I need every few months. I don't like having a bunch of things that I don't wear laying around, so I'm pretty stratigic about what I do purchase.

I am guilty of hiding packages...but I'm good about paying off things that are important first before going on a spending rampage. My boyfriend still thinks I have a ton of clothes but in conparison to some of my friends I really am not that bad. Even with makeup and skincare. I'm good about using what I've got. If something doesn't work or I know it's something I won't use I'm quick about giving it away.

I have found a good solution to avoiding meaningless spending. It's a bit silly, but if I'm interested in some retail therapy or see something I like during 'bills week' and know I can't buy something I write it down in a notebook. That way when I have some extra spending money or if someone wants to know what they can get me for gifts I can just pull something from that. It's so helpful! My boyfriend consults it pretty frequently Smiley Happy.

Whimsically yours,
Janine

Re: Too Much

I like that notebook idea, maybe I'll give it a try. Unfortunately I already messed up! He told me this weekend to at least wait until next month before I made another beauty purchase (makeup, skin, clothes etc). Well yesterday I saw a great sale on already on sale clothes so... you know I had to get stuff! EEK. I think I need to stop online purchases. I think it's so much easier to get out of control and compulsively buy things you don't need when you aren't in the store.

Re: Too Much

Yep, when I am on a spending break, I delete all my sale emails from beauty and flash sale places unopened. That way, what I don't see, doesn't tempt me. If I need something during that time, I only shop online at the place that has it and avoid "just taking a peek" at other stuff, as long as I'm there. Amazon is my prime culprit for this, I recently needed a cheese grater (my old one fell apart) and before I knew it, I had a pair of boots in my cart that were on sale for end of season. I did remove them from the cart and actually forgot about the grater and by the time I remembered I had gotten one at a restaurant supply place for less. Leaving stuff unpurchased in the cart for awhile also saves me money, I often forget about it and turns out I didn't need it or the urge passes before I do any more damage.

Good luck on your spending break, March is coming right up!

Re: Too Much

Lol, same here. I don't delete those emails, but make a beauty calendar instead, so if I see a perk I want but don't need to buy anything, I tell myself "it's ok, they are gonna have it again next year" or "it's ok, the next one is only X weeks away and much better anyways."

And when I really want something, I put it in my shopping basket for a month, and usually I decide I'm fine without it after that.

Re: Too Much

I just had "Confessions of a Shopaholic" flashbacks!  I'm definitely guilty of downplaying purchases Smiley Sad  I've gotten a ton better in recent years.  Since I get a considerable pro discount from several brands and my employee discount from Sephora, I usually feel pretty justified in picking up a few items here & there.  I try to go for sets, so I can get more bang for my buck Smiley Wink  I'm a bargain hunter too, so I refuse to pay full price for anything!

I also realized that I have WAY MORE makeup than I could ever use in my lifetime... to the point that I go through my stuff every few months & will give away any products that I havent opened (it must not have been THAT great if I wasnt excited to open it!) or barely touched, to my family and friends.  The same thing with clothes, I saw a great idea to turn your hangers all backwards & once or twice a year, anything that is still backwards gets purged.  I do it with my kids clothes too Smiley Happy

Just be reasonable & communicate with your hubby, I'm sure he'd appreciate your trying & would be willing to meet you half way Smiley Happy  Janine made a good point with the notebook... it would give your honey plenty of opportunities to spoil & surprise you!

xo, Mia

Re: Too Much

Oh speaking of clothe! You can turn in your old clothe at H&M and get a discount off new ones. A great deal if you are near the store or shop there. =)

And yeah, the only thing I buy for full price is the toner, cuz they almost never come in a set. =/

Re: Too Much

I dont have a physical journal of stuff I want, but I do have shopping lists online (sephora, drugstore and beauty) and every once in awhile....I print it out. If I wait a few weeks/months I can usually glance over the list and see a lot of things that I'm no longer interested in because there's always something newer/better coming out...or I know that I have too many similar items. I also use this list a lot for gifts---if I dont know what to get for something but know that they like/use makeup or skincare, I pick something off the list and buy it. Shopping lists are really great for me because it lists the item, the picture and the price.

Re: Too Much

Love that movie! I am actually getting better at returning stuff if it's not what I was hoping. That's another reason I need to just shop at the store, all this stuff isn't what I expected. I actually thought of getting a job at Sephora or a beauty store just to get the discount but that's probably besides the point of having a job if you don't bring home a check! LOL.

Re: Too Much

I feel so much better that someone posted about this!! I have more makeup than anyone could use in a lifetime, clothes that have tags on them (keeping in mind I've had them for years..), and shoes I've had for months and have yet to wear. I live at home but make a decent amount for someone my age, so I've always been able to indulge myself. Now I'm trying to move out, aka trying to save and trying to stop myself from shopping all the time, and it is horrible. In seeing what someone else wrote about shelves toppling over, I have a storage container that is totally full, one drawer that is totally full in one of those 3 drawer plastic storage containers, a thing that hangs on the back of a door that is totally full, and my entire dresser is COVERED in makeup. I always want to smack myself when I knock over a brush and everything just goes toppling over with it. My mom lectures me constantly on how I need to stop spending, and honestly I've hit my breaking point. It got to the point that I was taking money from the ATM so she couldn't see my credit card charges (she unfortunately works at my bank so she can see those things), and I would hide the stuff when bringing it in the house, then keep it under my bed. That being said, I've put myself on a no-makeup buying limitation and I've been so shocked at the amount of things I've hit pan on. I also recently started a weekly makeup bag (which I use Mon-Fri and then for the weekends I use whatever). I put aside the items I am going to use that week and that is it. The idea is to pick different items each way and force yourself to use your different things vs. grabbing what we have learned to love. I've loved doing this and have been able to get great use out of some stuff and also rediscovered things I forgot I had. This also has been able to remind me why I don't use certain products and I've then tossed them. I suggest trying it out! I periodically also look over my collection, see what I don't use, and try to return as much as I can. I feel bad returning it, but there is no point in having it sit there unused.

Re: Too Much

So sneaky! LOL bad girl. Honestly I don't have a large amount of makeup but I think that I went overboard buying a huge chunk of it just in the last month. I also have been spending on lotions. perfume, clothes etc so it's not just makeup. I'll post a picture of my collection and my secret haul I've stached in a Victoria's Secret bag... that came in the mail WITH the haul. So... not so secret Smiley Wink

Re: Too Much

@latinadiva-Beauty Talk is a place for you to come and feel loved cause most of the time someone is always in the same boat as you!Smiley Happy

Re: Too Much

Okay ladies let's make a challenge/pact. A couple of you mentioned having this same problem so let's do a challenge not to buy anything until the end of March. It sounds like a big deal now that I'm typing this but I think I really need to detox lol. Anyone with me? We can set up rules on what counts and what doesn't.

Re: Too Much

@FABZ-Can I just help those of you out that need it? Because I really don't think I can't make it that long without buying something. But I'll be here for moral support. OK??? Smiley HappySmiley Happy

Re: Too Much

Re: Too Much
