Alright beauty enthusiasts..... Sale season has begun! Lets see those sale purchases that are flooding in!
@leenasmom Glad you were able to get the 20% discount! Enjoy your goodies!
Since the recent product tag bug still isn’t fixed, I’ll use Sephora product page links for things I can’t tag. And I’m leaving out any items I bought as gifts for other people, because some of them know I post here.
Sephora Holiday Savings Event:
Okay so, I did end up buying one lipstick during the sale. 😄
Swatches & notes:
LANEIGE Cream Skin Refillable Milky Toner with Ceramides and Peptides 5.7 oz/170 ml Refill Pouch - restocking one of my body skin’s favorite things for cold months.
Soft Services Buffing Bar Miniature Body Gift Set Vol. 1 - love my full size blue bar so why not add a couple fragranced versions? Those will be dedicated to foot duty, except the affogato bar which is full-body safe for me.
Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF 25 Black Tea & Blackberry - once upon a time, I tried a different scent/flavor of this balm and it irritated my lips. So far, I haven’t had trouble with this black tea & blackberry scent: no lip irritation or weird sunscreen taste. And since this balm contains petrolatum, it keeps my lips moisturized for hours.
Hung Vanngo Longwear Waterproof Precision Gel Eyeliner shade One Eye At a Time - love how smoothly this liner applies, and it performs well on my hooded eyes.
Merit Solo Shadow Sheen shade Iris - I’m on the fence about it. I know Merit’s all about subtlety—knew that before I bought this cream shadow—so I’m not surprised by this shimmer shade’s very low impact. Still, it’s VERY low impact, dangerously near “why even bother applying it” territory. I mean there’s nuance, and then there’s… this. And sure, I do love all the pretty colors so I’m more used to higher impact. But I also love the heck outta my ND Mini Bronze palette, which is great (on me) on its own for subtle eye enhancement. I dunno, I need to play with Iris more. I do like the color a lot. I just wish it was more present on my lids. On a more positive note, I’ve worn Iris solo without eye primer and it didn’t move around much on my hooded eyes.
Glossier Cloud Paint Plush Blush shade Soar - I thought these blushes would feel like MAC Glow Play Cushiony blushes in the pan, but Glossier’s aren’t quite as bouncy/putty-like. I haven’t worn Soar yet, so I can’t speak to its lasting power. But it swatched nicely for me: full even opacity with a soft-blur matte finish. I’ll play with it this week.
REFY Lip Stick shade Mocha - despite my bad track record with flocked lip applicators (that aren’t doe feet), I wanted to try this flocked rollerball. Glad I did: I had no problems the first time I applied it, and I used the Merit cream eyeshadow cap as a mirror so I couldn’t accurately see what I was doing. 😂 Mocha applies evenly and doesn’t feather or dry out my lips. The satin finish wears down to a nice demi-matte throughout the day. I read reviews of too much product coming out after priming the pen (which does take a while); I got around that by hand-swatching and then applying the excess product on the applicator to my lips. I haven’t had much trouble dispensing the right amount of product since then.
Ulta - some of this is from October:
Swatches & notes:
Ulta Beauty Collection Velour & Satin Puffs - I’ll try these as replacements for a couple powder compacts.
NYX Buttermelt Highlighter shade Butta In Black - decided to make this limited edition shade my intro to the Buttermelt Highlighters. To me, it feels even silkier smooth than the Buttermelt Blushes.
NYX Pro Blending Shadow Brush - someone had a NYX brush in their haul and I didn’t know these brushes exist, so of course I had to try one. 🙃 Some blenders this shape (particularly, this long) are too floppy to work well for me, but this one’s just dense enough to be effective.
BLK/OPL Colorsplurge High Shine Lip Gloss shade Impassioned Pink - haven’t worn it yet, but I already love this shade. It’s scentless and had good opacity when swatched on my hand. Hopefully it won’t bleed a lot.
MAC Skinfinish Lightstruck Liquid Highlighter shades Cherry Chrome and Bubbled Over - these have a lightweight, smooth, kinda runny texture, like a watery gel. They feel very nice on my dry skin. I bought Cherry Chrome soon after product launch and it’s a lovely coppery pearly shimmery glow on me, vs. Bubbled Over which is a sparklier champagne. It’s easy to pump out too much product; I’m training myself to do just a half pump at most with these bottles.
MAC Fix+ mini size - my last bottle of Fix+ is in the old packaging (different spray nozzle) and about 3/4 full. I wanted a separate smaller bottle to experiment with, as part of my “need an Hourglass Brilliant Nude replacement for the center of my face” saga. I wondered if a thinned out liquid highlighter might get me there. Then I heard or read somewhere about MAC MUAs mixing Fix+ with the new Skinfinish Lightstruck highlighters. Of course I had to try it myself!
Eh, I might’ve added too much Bubbled Over to that vial.
Maybe a better look at the “light fairydusting” effect.
My next step will be mixing some Bubbled Over (and maybe a bit of Cherry Chrome) into the mini bottle of Fix+. For application, I can’t be as accurate with a liquid spray as I can with a powder + brush. But if the tradeoff is a very similar Brilliant Nude effect, then I’ll live with that.
GWP:
The NYX highlighter’s color shifts were hard to catch in still photos. There some light green and deep violet in there.
Amazing swatches and goodies!! @WinglessOne love a light shimmer
Nice hauls, @WinglessOne ! I love the color of the Hung Vannago eye liner! 😍 The Merit lipstick looks lovely on you! 💖💖💖
great haul @WinglessOne ! Let me know what you think of the Glossier blushes. I'm tempted by the red shade. I've seen mostly positive reviews
@makeitup305 I’ll tag you when I’ve got feedback on the blush. I’m used to the original Glossier Cloud Paint Gel Cream Blush, so I have high hopes for this new powder version.
@WinglessOne sounds good! I never tried the original cream blush but it was a cult favorite for a long time. Hope it works well for you!
@greeneyedgirl107 I think it was @danielledanielle who posted a brush in one of her recent hauls, so kudos to her for the info!
@WinglessOne great hauls! The Refy Mocha lipstick looks lovely on you! And the color of that Blk/Opal lip gloss is stunning! I love your Mac experiment - I hope it ends up working well for you. Hope you enjoy everything!
@WinglessOne Your Mac Fix+/Lightstruck experiment/combo looks super pretty! I bet you could have fun customizing different shades in mini bottles.
Thanks @missjeanie ! I’ve been hunting down all my DS vials of Fix+ to test more combos before moving up to mini bottles. 😂
And before I forget: I finally lit the Harlem Candle Co. Brownstone Spice candle. It’s very orange + nutmeg + cinnamon, with muted ginger on a cedar base. I don’t smell much chili pepper, though that note probably works behind the scenes to keep the orange from being overblown sweet citrusy. I do smell the black current; it melds with orange and spices to add a mild dark berry note. I wish the chili was prominent (eh, at least equal to the orange), but I do like this candle a lot. Like Harlem’s other double-wick candles, this one doesn’t tunnel: it burns evenly and cleanly.
@WinglessOne So this is sounding like I need to try out another candle company! I just love the sound of this one. Feels very cold weather appropriate!
@WinglessOne Mocha looks amazing on you! I need to try those bars someday. I just recently started getting into bar soap.
Thank you @Samtian ! The Soft Services bars are great exfoliators, as long as you don’t scrub hard with ‘em. I use mine after washing with either the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser Bar or Vanicream Z-Bar.
