@SportyGirly125 Thanks for the heads-up! Gonna tell a few SDJ loving friends to keep an eye out at local Sephoras. 👍 Enjoy the Prada palette!
Luckyscent sale:
Along with candles, I really need to slow my roll on fragrance samples.
Notes, including a couple fragrance reviews:
Boy Smells Farm to Candle, Sweet Pits - bought two other candles (Bramble and Crush) from this collection last month and felt bad about leaving Sweet Pits behind. 😅 Cold throw is creamy apricot + rhubarb. It’ll be a while before I light this one, what with all the other candles I should burn first.
Side note: Boy Smells has been reformulating and relaunching their former candles and fragrances…
Belnu Unlock Collection Discovery Set - I don’t think I’ve smelled any of these before. Rose Steady is heckin’ strong: no need to spray it (yet), I can smell it through its plastic wrap. It’s not the super powdery or very artificial rose I find in too many fragrances, so I’m excited to try it. Just gotta remember to use a light hand.
Samples - I bought 5 new-to-mes:
So far I’ve tried two samples simultaneously (one on each elbow pit):
White Rice 👍:
When you first lift the lid off a pot of jasmine rice that’s just finished cooking, and you get that deep steam whiff, then insert a wood spoon/spatula and stir the rice. And there’s a bit of rice at the bottom that got slightly toasted. That’s exactly how this fragrance starts off: warm, a little nutty, slightly sweet, and a teeny bit powdery. It dries down to more of a pleasant soft musk.
White Rice is definitely a skin scent: I had trouble smelling it on my elbow pit, so I applied more to my wrist for easier access. But the second fragrance (on my other arm) overpowered it, so… I’ll need to retry White Rice on its own to find its true drydown, because I think I like this one a lot. To be continued.
d’Annam’s fragrance notes: Rice, Pandan, Orris, Jasmine, Tonka Bean, White Musk. Main accord is Rice/Milky.
Pho Breakfast 😒❌:
Starts as lime, coriander (the ground seeds) and cilantro leaves. Then basil appears with a warm muted ginger undercurrent and occasional whiffs of star anise. Settles to cardamom, a little lime, cilantro, and a whole lotta patchouli. I wish the patchouli was very muted in the drydown; it overpowers everything and veers Pho Breakfast toward the Estée Lauder Youth Dew of the 1970s-90s, aka my grandmother’s daily driver.
Eh, Pho Breakfast isn’t exactly Youth Dew. But the drydown sure reminds me of it, and I wish I could call that pleasantly nostalgic. I mean I loved my grandma, but Youth Dew’s massive projection and silage were easy to overdo. Ditto for Pho Breakfast, and I only used a dauber on one elbow pit. 😬 This fragrance needs about 60% less patchouli. Such a letdown after that interesting aromatic opening.
d’Annam’s fragrance notes: Fresh Basil, Star Anise, Charred Ginger, Cilantro, Mandarin. Main accord is aromatic. Weird that patchouli’s not listed as a note when it’s so dang strong in the drydown. But the perfumer does say “a touch of patchouli imparts a hint of umami richness.” Haha, “a touch.” 😒
Lisa Eldridge:
And see, I’ll be decluttering some old reds from my lipstick hoard this year, so it’s perfectly fine to add this one. 😄
Lip swatch & notes:
Rouge Experience Lipstick Refill shades Rae and Ribbon - Rae is one of the two newly released shades. It’s not as mauvy brown as I’d hoped for, but still a beautiful milk chocolate that does have a hint of mauve. Rae performs just as wonderfully as my other Rouge Experience shades. I’m sure Ribbon will too: I already have this shade in the True Velvet formula, so the color’s no surprise. I also wanted it in this RE formula. There’s a Ribbon swatch down in the Sephora spoiler tag.
GWP: tote bag - I picked the lavender/olive one. I wish one side was logo-less, but I appreciate the interior zipper pocket.
Sephora for 4X points:
I’ve tried other Chris Collins fragrances, but this is the first one I’ve truly loved.
Swatches & notes:
SEPHORA COLLECTION Totally Juicy Lip Tint 12 Mocha Crush - recommended to me by a friend’s teenager who’s a budding lipstick hoarder lover like their mother and me. 😂 It’ll be fun to compare this to Fenty’s lip stain, and V_FR’s new lip stain while I’m at it.
World of Chris Collins Lust Oud Delice Parfum with Dark Chocolate, Hazelnut and Orris Travel Spray 0... - 😍 I’ll drop my full review in this spoiler tag:
The real-deal dark chocolate opening is AMAZING! 🖤 Then oud shows up and, for 1-3 minutes, battles dark chocolate for dominance. When the fighting settles, both parties sign an “equal share” peace treaty and welcome hazelnut to join their alliance, along with orris and sandlewood. The whole time (well, after The Great Cacao-Oud War) this was on my wrist, it grew warmer and warmer—scent wise, not actual temperature—until the drydown, which includes all those scent notes I mentioned plus some unobtrusive musk. Pretty sure that last note’s responsible for the warming.
This oud’s kept just shy of animalic and prevents Lust Oud Delice from smelling like straight-up Nutella, thank goodness. (I do like Nutella, but I won’t pay USD $48 to smell like it.) Projection and weartime are good. In fact, I need to use a lighter hand with this one: two sprays on my wrist almost triggered a headache after drydown. Just one spray will hopefully avoid that tripwire. You know I really like a fragrance when I’m willing to wear it despite a headache risk. 🙃
Fragrance notes:
Inkey List Cream-to-Milk Cleanser (can’t tag it) - I’ll try this in the morning, if I remember.
GWP - mini size Yves Saint Laurent YSL Loveshine Lip Oil Stick 201 Rosewood Blush
Thanks @lmaster ! I hope Boy Smells brings back some of these Farm To Candle scents!
LOL @WinglessOne "felt bad about leaving sweet pits behind" that made me chuckle! This is such an amazing haul - hope you're enjoying everything so far!
It was “perfectly fine” to add the red lip @WinglessOne ! You deserve it after your tough decluttering work. They look lovely on you.
Thanks @Sunnysmom ! So far I’ve decluttered an amazing total of one red lipstick. 🫠 The Reckoning of Reds will finally happen though! I can’t look at the reds section of my lipstick hoard without hearing Karen Carpenter in my head. 🎼 Before the rising suuuuun, we flyyyyy; So many roads to chooooose; We'll start out walking and learn to ruuuun; And yes, we've just beguuuuuuuuun…🎶
Ha I love that @WinglessOne ! Whatta voice too! I have given myself the month of July to truly get busy and declutter this lip nightmare over here. ALL. I was doing pretending to do it by brand for awhile and then I lost my will . Time to get serious. Cheers to us. We can do this!
@WinglessOne Amazing hauls and so many great products!😍
I absolutely love the Sephora Collection Totally Juicy Lip Tint! I have it in Summer Slushy.
@WinglessOne I love your fragrance haul! The candle sounds like it would be so perfect for summer, too.
Wrapping up the beauty challenge:
@jaaayp another great haul!😍
I love the WA Baby Cheeks Blush, I hope you do too! Petal is a beautiful shade. (And I hope you loved the WA Face Trace)
The Huda Easy Bake Setting Spray is so good! I've repurchased it a few times already.
And, the little baby Beautyblender is absolutely adorable...I got one a while ago in a different Complexion Sample Bag GWP and it's the tiniest little thing lol!
I DO really like the shade petal @Suzanne713 the color is so universal and i kinda wish i picked it up during spring as it seems like a perfect spring color!
a few times already ?! do you set after power and again at the end? I have setting sprays that's been open for months and they're like half empty - teach me your ways!
