Re: Ipsy July 2014

What the heck. I didn't get a single thing I was interested in, more nail polish (I've never heard of) which I specifically said I never wanted in my survey, and the 5-1 cream shadow. Other than bareminerals I haven't heard of any the brands I am getting.

Re: Ipsy July 2014

Well, the tanning oil and moisturizer are going to others. I don't trust any skin care ipsy has sent and I definitely DO NOT need oil to tan, my Mexican and Native American blood makes sure I'm always brown already.

Re: Ipsy July 2014

I got the exact same bag as you. I'm pretty irritated about the tanning oil. My Mexican and Native American blood don't make sure I'm always brown (though I do turn brown quickly if I let the sun touch my skin), but with the amount of cancer in my family, I'd rather stay pale. I'm feeling kinda meh about everything else.

Re: Ipsy July 2014

Has anyone traded through the Ipsy trade site? I'm wondering if I could trade some of my stuff that way - if not, it will go to friends or a TBB most likely

Re: Ipsy July 2014

:-( Cream shadows irritate my eyes (I'll still give this one a shot) and I'm already naturally tan. I'm looking forward to the Pixi; kind of meh about the hair care and nail polish. This bag is definitely disappointing, though I've had more good bags than bad bags with Ipsy, so I'll let this month slide. :-/

edit: I kind of assumed the Hang Ten was a self-tanning product, I only just noticed that it's a go-sit-in-the-sun-and-tan-yourself tanner. They might as well include lighters in the next bag, for anyone who wants to smoke. :-/ I was reading some of the earlier comments about some of who you have loved ones with skin cancer (I myself knew someone who lost her battle against melanoma) and it bugs me that they'd send a product like that -- and they were so good about sending out sunscreen a couple of months ago! Maybe we could write to Ipsy or something and ask them not to include products like that in future bags.

Re: Ipsy July 2014

You could try writing but I don't think it will help considering they are using the measly 8 spf as justification. "Our stylists think that sunscreen is very important for maintaining healthy skin this summer, so everyone got one of two sunscreen products, each with a different level of protection. We wanted to send out a different type of sunscreen than what’s been in previous Glam Bags, and the Hang Ten Oil is our first oil-based sunscreen product. It’s has a great moisturizing element, and everyone can benefit from the vitamins, antioxidants, and exotic plant extracts in the formula!"

Re: Ipsy July 2014

Shouldn't there be an spf minimum for a product to qualify as sunscreen? Some of my foundations have a higher spf but I don't think anyone would count them as good suncare products. *eye roll in Ipy's direction*

Re: Ipsy July 2014

I think SPF 15 is the typically minimum recommended, but I don't know of any official "It must include this much" qualification.  I got almost the same bag, and I couldn't be more bummed about the stuff I'm getting. Tanning oil? Is there something wrong with my skin color, Ipsy??  I'm just hoping that the BB eyeshadow is more exciting than it looks.  I'm sure everyone wishes they got the powder, though.  Here's hoping next month is better!

Re: Ipsy July 2014

Do you work for Ipsy?? Smiley Wink  haha, or we just know their typical response already!

Re: Ipsy July 2014

Hahaha no I just copy and pasted from facebook one of their many responses to people who wrote that they couldn't use the tanning oil.

Re: Ipsy July 2014

Happy I did not get the tanning oil, but this is now my fourth bottle of Purlisse.  Two from Sample Society and two from Ipsy.  I think someone really wants me to try it.  At least this one has spf.

Re: Ipsy July 2014

Someone wants you and me both to try Pur-lisse! Should we breakdown and try it? Haha

Re: Ipsy July 2014

I just have too many to use a new one before the older ones.  Gotta use them in order so nothing gets too old.  I will probably start sticking some of the extras in TSBs.  I've heard it is actually decent, so I hope to try one before they expire.

Re: Ipsy July 2014

If the eyeshadows are the same duo I already had from a BM trial set I'll end up putting them aside. Not sure about the BB cream because I'm picky about products that cover my whole face. But I'm excited to see the other products. I actually liked this bag better than my two first ones.

Re: Ipsy July 2014

If you want to trade one of your eyeshadow duos let me know!

Re: Ipsy July 2014

Emmy lives in Canada.  For the cost to ship from there to where you are now, it would probably be cheaper for you to buy it outright.

Re: Ipsy July 2014

Below is what I'll be getting apparently. Not sure how excited I am or not, but it is my first bag so we'll see what I think once I get it:

Re: Ipsy July 2014

Just curious when you signed up if you were on the waiting list and if so how long did it take to get off it?

Re: Ipsy July 2014

I was on the waitlist for about a month. Then I got an email about getting off the waitlist by posting to facebook and liking a bunch of youtubers. I posted to facebook and liked all the youtubers, then unliked all of them but still got off the waitlist!

Re: Ipsy July 2014

Thanks! It's been a few weeks for me and I was getting the emails as well. Facebook was step 1 of 3 to get off the wait list but I wasn't sure what the steps afterwards were so I held off.

Re: Ipsy July 2014

I can't remember the final step but it wasn't bad at all and all of it could be undone! So I'd definitely go for it!

Re: Ipsy July 2014

Hahaha I did the same thing (unsubscribing after liking the youtubers). I guess I signed up at the right time because I was able to skip the waitlist immediately.

Re: Ipsy July 2014

I got my box today. Anyone else shocked by the tiny size of the 5 in 1 BB eyeshadow cream? It looks like a tiny free sample! I've seen larger free samples, in fact. I think I'm going to cancel because I have enough junk as it is, without adding more every month

Re: Ipsy July 2014

I have been looking at all the goodies and what not trying to decide what would be the best (as in get the best stuff...and the most too if possible, hehe) box to join from Burch, Ipsy, and Sample Society. I have almost completed the steps like 4 x's on Birch Box but didn't. What do y'all suggest?

Thanks!

Re: Ipsy July 2014

I have Ipsy, Glossybox, Julep, Birchbox and Sample Society.

Birchbox has been completely outperforming Ipsy as of late (even though I am disappointed I did not get an email to select an item).  I really wanted that pretty nail polish.  It always has a mix of items (makeup, haircare, skincare, etc).  You never receive more than 2 items from one category.  Considering it shares the same $10 price tag as Ipsy, it usually gives out better brands.  That said, it is rare to receive a full sized item, so Ipsy bags may actually contain a higher value some months.

Glossybox was amazing in May, so I doubt it will live up to that hype again anytime soon.  I did add a sub though, because we are getting mini black Glamglows this month.  There is no waiting list, so unless the box is sold out you could subscribe now and get the box with the GlamGlow.  The brands are mostly high quality with an occasional cheap brand thrown in.  I find this box more focused on skincare but it does throw in some makeup.

Ipsy is usually best when it sticks to makeup.  I am not a fan of cheap skincare, and it is rare to find a nice brand in the box, like you do in Sample Society, Glossybox and even Birchbox.  Although, I am getting three makeup items this month, and I am not really feeling any.  Maybe, the generic Benetint will be all right, but I highly doubt I will like the cream shadow or cheap bronzer.  It is the only cheaper box that regularly throws a full sized item or two in (although it is getting more rare as of late).

Sample Society.  I got 4 facial moisturizers and 2 perfumes last month, so they could do a better job mixing up the items.  Twice, they have forgotten an item listed in my online account and listed in the spoiler email.  Both times they mailed me a full replacement box, so I ended up with 2 items of everything except the item they left out of the original box though.  I recently read that they are going to be mixing up the box more, so it more resembles a Birchbox blend (but with nicer brands than Birchbox).  This month, I am getting a nail polish, a highlighter and a Loreal (odd low brand for this box) lip color.  They are also sending me a perfume (which makes me third in two months.  That is a lot for someone who specifically said she does not like perfume).  I love getting nail polish, so I am excited to receive a Butter London one.  I am also getting a hair mask.  The color looks dreadful though.  Anyway, my point is I do not see the better mix they are promising yet, but after seeing 4 moisturizers in the box last month, I am glad they took a break from skincare.

Julep.  Collecting decent nail polish at a fraction of the cost is awesome.  This is not a subscription I plan on keeping long term.  The promos make it desirable to pick up lots of extras.  I upgrade every month, so this is my most expensive subscription by far.  Those darn deals are too good to pass up.  Before I realized it, I had spent a lot of money and had an impressive Julep collection (the rest of my polish collection is not too shabby either).  I will cancel after the year is over, and I have collected all of the gemstone polishes.
