Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

Soooo I caved and bought an XL bag after all. Took an unusually long time to ship, and then I put off opening the box for a few days.

44D4C99C-E11E-444D-B39C-3F157903DDB4.jpeg

Total value = $361.25 USD:

  • Wayne Goss First Edition Brush F3 - $75
  • Natasha Denona Mini Rose - $27
  • Danessa Myricks Groundwork Blooming Romance - $65
  • Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand shade Pinkgasm - $42
  • Augustinus Bader Tinted Lip Balm shade 2 - $46
  • Holifrog Solar Daily Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 - $36
  • Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner - $14
  • Oribe Run-Through Detangling Shampoo - $49
  • Slip Skinny Scrunchie - $7.25 (price based on set of 4)

I have some thoughts:

Spoiler
Wayne Goss First Edition Brush F3 - a saikoho goat hair powder/cheek brush, in a shape (round tapered) I don’t often use in this size. It’ll be fun to play with!

NATASHA DENONA Mini Rose Eyeshadow Palette - eh, at least it’s not Mini Starlette, but I’m not sure this palette will work for my skin tone either. I might try rehoming this one.

Danessa Myricks Beauty Groundwork: Blooming Romance - Palette For Eyes, Brows, Face & Lips - happy to have this! When it first launched, I swatched it in-store and talked myself out of buying it because “I already have enough pinks and berries.” Ever since, I’ve been on the verge of caving. Maybe my willpower’s finally being rewarded. 😂

Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Highlighter Wand Pinkgasm - I won’t be using this. There’s something about these highlighters I don’t like... I tried one before (might’ve even been this shade) and wound up giving it away. I’ll definitely try rehoming this one too.

Augustinus Bader Tinted Lip Balm shade 2 - did not expect this at all. I still say AB products are quite overpriced. But as a lipstick addict, I might as well use this tinted balm since it was in my bag, right?

Holifrog Solar Daily Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 - the INCI list looks compatible with my finicky skin, so I’ll try it on my face. If it doesn’t play nice there, I’ll use it elsewhere on my body.

Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner - I used to use this on my face and neck. I’ve since moved on to other products that contain niacinamide, but I’ll use this bottle on my arms and maybe my legs.

Oribe Run Through Detangling Shampoo 8.5 oz/ 250 mL - I’ve heard/read from several folks that this overpriced shampoo is average at best. Eh, that might be okay for me, as long as it doesn’t beat up my coils. If someone really wants it before I test it (which probably won’t happen til next month since I have other shampoos to test first), I’ll rehome it.

Slip Skinny Scrunchie - has Beautylish ever put a full pack of these in a Lucky Bag? I love skinny silk scrunchies (by various brands), so I’ll happily take yet another single Slip one. But c’mon Beautylish. 🤦‍♀️

Overall, a good bag for me. Just one definite dud (the Charlotte Tilbury highlighter) and a couple items I could do without (the ND mini and Oribe shampoo). Even without those 3 items, I got my money‘s worth and then some.

Considering how long it took these Lucky Bags to sell (and I don’t know if they ever actually sold out; I forgot to check), I wonder how they’ll do next time. This is the 6th or 7th Lucky Bag I’ve ever bought, and probably the best XL bag I’ve gotten.

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

Shipping was so weird this year, @WinglessOne . Did you get a credit from Beautylish for it?

That brush is beautiful and amazing that you held out on the DM palette and then got it here!! Amazing that its a good bag for you!! Congrats!!

Lol, at the single slip being an item, I've maybe seen one or so with a full set, but definitely this single one in a bunch (honestly, just put it in all of them as a like gwp and actually give us more items).

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

Thanks @haleyvvvv ! Heh, I’ve gotten a single Slip scrunchie in 3 lucky bags so far, according to my photo album. Last year I got a set of large Kitsch scrunchies I don’t like, and wished Beautylish had just given me another solo Slip scrunchie instead. 🤣

I didn’t ask for a shipping credit/refund because I couldn’t remember if Beautylish’s warehouse was in the LA area. (Eh, I think it’s in Fresno which is 3-4 hours from LA.) If it was, then I wasn’t gonna ding ‘em for slow shipping considering the fires. They created my (and I assume everyone else’s) shipping label on Jan. 15, but USPS didn’t receive the package until 10 days later—and from that point, shipping was as fast as usual. And of course I forgot about the whole issue until I posted my bag in this thread. 😅 Now it feels kinda late to ask for a $20 refund since my package arrived Jan. 28 and then I didn’t open it for a while, so… I’ll probably just eat the $20. I hear there are people whose lucky bags didn’t ship til this month, which is ridiculous.

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

@WinglessOne I always thought it was packaged in the Bay Area but maybe I'm misremembering. Also, like, no problem if it was because of the fire or anything else, but like a heads up, ya know, especially as others went out.

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

@WinglessOnefor that CT is it the insane amount of shimmer that reveals all

nooks and crannies, the weird dispensing, the tacky name (we have Nars for this Charlotte) or the heavy fragrance that bothers you? Trick question.  It's all the above, I hate that product so much 😂  It not only emphasized pores, it gave me a rash.  Now, I usually won't hate on something but for the amount, the price.....ugh, I can't.  More for others to love.  Sorry to those I've offended, I just feel validated.

Also yay on collecting another slip scrunchie 🤣

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

@danielledanielle  Haha, I cringe each time I read the CT highlighter names and think “ONLY NARS can do that, Charlotte!” 🤣 But yes, all of the above is the correct answer. I have a couple other glitterbomb highlighters, but they have much better (for me) formulas than CT’s. Sorry you got a rash though, yikes! Surprisingly, I didn’t when I tried my original one… at least, I don’t recall any physical irritation. Plenty of mental irritation though.

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

I think this might be the wrap for lucky bags for me.

First, they all weren't shipped at the same time. I understand that the act of physically moving an item over large geographic areas/across borders is going to take some time, I don't mind waiting on the physical shipping. What I do mind is when orders aren't all packed to go at the same time. I get filling up palettes for different shipping venues, but like these are all packed in advance of Jan 15, so like they could have made sure all of them were ready to go. If there was an issue (I dunno, fires, etc), we would understand, but there was no communication, we had to reach out. I appreciate they "refunded" the shipping charges, but dislike that it was a Beautylish credit.

Second, I don't support so many brands, and I keep getting brands I don't support, so its just a little like, do I live with it, do I try to trade, etc.

However, I did get a good value this year, and in general, I do get good value bags and truly haven't gotten more than one terrible bag (thinking about the year I got four tool products but no higher end brush, just a Sonia G brush envelope), but I haven't ever got a bag I love, love (but each year there's always one I see that I am like, that would have been perfect for me).

That being said, overall an okay bag, but am dropping some things in the trade chat.

PXL_20250205_020050318~2.jpg

Overall what I paid $111 CAD (Bag=106, Duties+Taxes=25, Shipping=27, Subtotal=160$ CAD - $49 gift card/credit) and then got my shipping further as a credit, so I am operating as if I paid $85 CAD with my totals.

Keeping

Sonia G Mini Base - $56 CAD - I am so happy with this. I haven't gotten a face brush with the Lucky Bags, so even though this is mini, I think it'll be great for foundation for me, it's a shape I like for that and I like that its designed for liquid and creams.

Danessa Myricks Beauty Infinite Chrome Waterproof Micropencil Eyeliner Lilac Quartz - $29 CAD - I like these so much, they're creamy and have a bit of a duochrome shift. I don't have this one, so I am super happy with it.

Good Molecules Lightweight Daily Moisturizer - $14 CAD - Always can use a moisturizer and if I don't like it, my partner likely will.

So for the $85 CAD I paid, I think I got my money's worth with these three products, but not the best value per se.

Gifting (or maybe trading, depending)

Jupiter Renewing Scalp Moisturizer - $47.50 CAD - I was excited to see something from a newer brand, but unfortunately, this just isn't a product for my oily scalp (unless I can use this in place of my pre-wash oil). I might gift to a friend who would be in need of it. So a great product, happy to see the brand, but a miss for me, specifically.

Trading (hopefully)

NATASHA DENONA I Need a Warm Eyeshadow Palette - $97 CAD - I have gotten a ND palette EVERY YEAR. This is a brand I do not buy from and I do not like supporting. The palette is fine and if it was the only thing I didn't like, I would just depot them like my other ones to avoid the hassle.

AURIC Cosmetics Plush Ritual Recovery Ceramide Lip Treatment - $45 CAD - This is a brand I do not support and its not even a coloured cosmetic, which is disappointing.

So I think overall a pretty good bag, but not good for me overall. We'll see how I feel next year, what the releases have been etc. Overall, I am in a position to buy these, so like, I am always happy for the fun of it. Also, the print this year was STUNNING. the prints are normally so good, but I love that this one was a little comic. Definitely hanging it on my wall.

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

@haleyvvvv.  I remember that "lucky" bag.  That, a WG mystery bag and my 2020 all take precedence whenever I consider purchasing a mystery bag/box now.  The 2020 one, I remember adding up the value of the bag thinking it was under; I might be able to get rid of the Ms. Fame palette somehow. I contacted Beautylish for them to come back with a nonsense reply of "it's actually $3 over the projected amount, and good luck with trading!" kind of response and I was seeeeeeeething.

The shipping stiiiinkkks the last few years, and that's kind of sad, because a lot of these factors are beyond Beautylish's control.  You're spot on about notifying customers though, it is like they only reply when they get caught.  I joked about my WG getting out of customs, but that email must have come after other complaints because literally, the release date changed twice for those.  The first change I only knew because of here and @TraceyEB updating her thread.  The second change was an email.

The delayed shipping also bothers me because by the time I get things, I feel like no one here wants to trade because they got their stuff or what I want to get rid of is just so unwanted 🥲.  I tried reselling, but when it's stuff no one wants, it'll sit there, so it ends up getting donated when I have no space   In my mind, I hope someone gets it and loves it, but I think it probably gets trashed if it's not in the box even though the place stated it takes cosmetics.

All this was to say, I feel you and I think several of us feel this way, too. You took a risk, and there were at least enough items this year  to yield a evening out but it's annoying.

R/T The art was gorgeous!  I have fomo for it 🤣 more than the items this time. I forget whose layout here, but when I saw it, It  was @bebe865 's set up ♥️

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

Truly, my Beautylish Lucky Bag 2022 was one of the worst bags and I just looked up your 2020 one @danielledanielle  and yep, that one is not good. I always feel like, I guess it would be good for someone, but I don't always love the imbalance across bags. Like obviously some are going to be very lucky, but the bad ones are generally universally felt to be bad, and its like, who thought this was cool to ship.

Its also like, if the shipping was delayed because like shipping is delayed, sure. But my package (and most delayed packages this year) hadn't even been routed to the shipping partner until the end of January. So like maybe a whole truck went missing on its way to the shipping depot (but like then tell us? I'd wait if they're trying to locate). Do we think they maybe like now have multiple warehouses (or are like moving to a bigger one) and like didn't account for the increase in time because of that?

I've been "lucky" in the sense that if I can't easily resell, I can give to the students in my lab and they're so happy with it, so like it works out, but its hard when its later to trade and hard to resell and even hard to give away sometimes. But also I shouldn't complain too much, these are definitely luxury problems, but also it is a frustration.

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

@haleyvvvv  Sorry your Lucky Bag was delayed and you wound up with a couple brands you normally avoid. I remember when Beautylish moved J* stuff to a separate lucky bag category, and I’m glad they did because I’d have stopped buying these bags long ago otherwise. I want zero chance of getting any of that brand’s stuff in my bag. (Outside of Beautylish, I’m now trying to decide what to do with my magaterf Ensley Reign palettes… sigh.) So I can relate to not wanting certain brands’ products. Natasha Denona’s been a lucky bag go-to for a while now… if I was avoiding that brand, I’d have to stop buying lucky bags because the chance of getting an ND product is high. Heck, I’m surprised my bag didn’t contain any this year. EDIT: haha, I see I’ve already put that ND mini out of sight & mind. 😅

Also, hooray for getting such a great brush! And I’m also a big fan of Danessa’s duochrome eyeliners (on me, some shades are very colorshifty). Hope you can rehome some of your items!

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

@WinglessOne I was lucky to miss that whole era of like both lucky bags and the beauty community, but also same, I was so glad to see the first time I bought one that it wouldn't include anything from J*.

I just feel like, since I've gotten a ND palette every time (even the year my big palette was a Hindash one, I got a 3 pan ND one), that I was maybe due some variety lol. Like just based on chance. But I am very excited about the brush and the palette is a fine colour story so if I can't easily re-home it, I will depot it like my others. Yes, the shift of the chromes in the liner definitely depends on the shade (I think I have a green that doesn't really shift and was looking at the yellow which isn't too shifty) and skin tone, but I really like them so I am very excited to have this.

I think for ER stuff, if you bought it already, maybe just depot it or use it and don't like promote it? Its hard, I get not wanting to use stuff from brands but also like if its already acquired, not using it doesn't impact the brand. Ugh ER - so trash, I'm so glad I never got anything from them.

Spoiler
It took me a second to parse out magaterf, lol 😅 . I was like so a like this is an expletive typo, but no, I got it eventually and yep! the worst!!

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

@haleyvvvv  😂 Since BIC is a wide open forum (not closed to the public; search engines regularly crawl all our posts), I didn’t wanna attract any of that crowd’s trolls—trying to keep BIC troll-free—so I had to be a bit creative with that description. But for real, had I known ER’s stance on things before visiting their site, I’d have never bought anything from them. It ticks me off that they have my money and there’s nothing I can do about that. And yeah, I might as well use these shadows since I paid for ‘em. But even if I depot them, they’ll still feel tainted to me… an ick I can’t wash away. I wish brands, especially indies, would just be transparent and honest about their “values,” including those of their founders. I mean, there are plenty of people who’d happily support ER because they share certain “values,” so it’s not like ER would lose tons of money by coming clean about this stuff. They’d lose (already have lost) influencers, sure. But I suspect ER’s founder knows which, um, “shared values” inner circles to promote to. 🙄

ANYWAY… if you decide to buy a Lucky Bag this December, I hope it’s free of ND for you!

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

I think also it's like, the indie release cycle moves so weirdly fast and low volume (this is less weird and I'd rather pay for a restocking but that seems less popular), so there's this almost pressure to get a thing before it's gone. But it makes it hard to like deeply research versus more mainstream, established or MUA brands (which are sometimes indie of course, but not quite the same). It's also like, we don't know the values of like a lot ppl working at various companies, but like with indie brands the owner is often so visible and the only employee. And since indie brand owners are often so bad at like separating themselves from their brand (a rant for another day, but one I've been having for the past two years), they often are sloppy like this. But also I'm glad cause at least we know but like ideally we'd never know ya know. Not that ER hasn't done, IMO, things that are non starters from a business perspective as well (not paying collaborators, AI art, former name, etc).

@WinglessOne you could sell them and donate a portion? If you aren't going to use them?

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

@haleyvvvv   An ER defender asked “would you also slam Pat McGrath if her Instagram account liked those posts? You know one of her employees probably runs her socials, not her, so why not give ER the same consideration?” As if ER’s staff is anywhere near that large, and ER’s founder can’t possibly be the person running the brand’s social accounts. 🙄 But yeah, ideally (from a business perspective) we’d never know the founder’s stance because that nonsense would’ve been kept off the brand account. (And for anyone wondering: yes, if I learned Pat McGrath had the same “values” as ER’s founder, I’d stop buying her stuff and would need to decide what to do with my rather large collection.)

Other folks have asked why the AI art didn’t deter me in the first place, since I’m an artist. It definitely looks to be AI, but I wanted to dig deeper into where the brand claims their art comes from (any specific artist), and I got impatient about doing that before buying anything. So yep, that’s on me.

Donation was my first thought, as I’ve donated plenty of cosmetics before. Selling would be hard since I’ve swatched each palette and actually used a couple (I have 3). Not sure anyone I personally know will want these as a gift either. I could use ‘em as an art medium… that might be my best option.

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

@WinglessOne I couldn't believe those ER posts. I felt so bad after I endorsed them so much. It's such a shame people are like this. I won't throw my palettes away but it definitely takes the joy out of using them.

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

@makeitup305  Aw, I don’t think anyone blames you for promoting them without knowing all that stuff. I certainly don’t. ❤️

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

Agreed, @makeitup305 !!

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

@haleyvvvv @WinglessOne thank you 💜

Re: Beautylish Lucky Bag 2025

I skipped on the bag last year but gave in this time.

I purchased the regular bag again and I am pretty ok with it.

The Danessa Myrick Groundwork Blooming Romance palette $65.  I don’t own, but I am looking forward to trying out.

Wayne Goss Holiday Brush Collection $85.  The handles are beautiful and the brushes are so soft.  These are synthetic brush and they are my first brushes from him.

Good Molecules Hyaluronic Acid $6.   I use products from the brand and enjoy them.  This is my first HA from them.

Charlotte Tilbury Island Glow Lip and Cheek Cream in Beach Peach Glow $40.  This is a new one to me.  But I love CT so looking forward to trying this one.

Hourglass Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balm in Haze.   Just as good as Thrill courtesy of @TeamBIC

Fleurissent Radiance Facial Cream in Rose. $98.  This one is totally new to me.   I’m not sure about the Rose scent.   Usually I am ok with some scented skincare.  Like Estee Lauder.  So I will see

Grand Total $332.
