Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

[EDIT-Updated to not limit to a year, legacy posts for all years.]

A few years ago I was inspired by a challenge on Instagram and we did a makeup inventory. ❄️December 2022 Challenge - 12 Days of Makeup Inventory - Show Off and Catalog Your Collection!!❄️

I was a little behind on planning this year (job interviews, life, not being able to login to the BIC), so I thought we could make this a yearly challenge for 2024+ and broaden it across all beauty categories.

Why participate?

  • I know I went back to my posts to find "dupes" for things that were limited edition (Melt Pumpkin King, in my case).
  • It's a good idea to look through your products every bit to review for quality and cleanliness.
  • Curation is important.
  • Knowing how much in your stash can help with your Low/No Buy or keeping an eye on your backups.
  • The fun of organizing your collection!!

Rules

Please no negative comments about the size or contents of others' collections, this is a place to celebrate our collections. Self-reflection is always welcome though 💖. Please don't take this as an impetus to declutter (unless you want to!).

I'm going to try to get a little contemplative with mine, to see if I would purchase again or not. But don't feel obligated to join that part!!

Timeline

  • January - Face Primers, Nail Polish
  • February - Foundations, Concealers, Cleansers and Mists
  • March - Bronzers and Contours (singles), Serums and Treatments
  • April - Blushes (singles), Moisturizer and Oils
  • May - Highlighters (singles), Sheet Masks
  • June - Face Palettes, Non-Sheet Masks, Tools (Brushes, etc.)
  • July - Eye Primers, Single Eyeshadows (free standing or in custom palettes), Body Cleansers, Body Scrubs, Body Lotion, Body Glitter
  • August - Eyeshadow Palettes, Shampoo, Conditioner
  • September - Brow Products, Eyeliners, Mascaras, Hair Treatments
  • October - Lip Balms, Lip Liners, Lip Glosses, Perfume Samples
  • November - Lipsticks, Travel Sized Perfumes
  • December - Setting Powders, Setting Sprays, Full Sized Perfumes and Body Sprays

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@haleyvvvv I have a hard time decluttering so working on using some up and cutting back on purchases is going to be key!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

This is an amazing collection, @missjeanie! Have fun using them!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Thanks @curlychiquita It'll be a fun time this year honing in on what really works for me these days!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@missjeanie

Oooh so lovely!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@missjeanie  Holy cow! That's impressive!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

😍😍😍 @missjeanie! This is a beautifully well rounded collection of bases. I like your thinking ahead about your ideal number of foundations and concealers for your collection. I feel like I can get on with just a smidge fewer concealers but the 10 foundations, woah, that's impressive. On the one hand, I'm thinking oh, that's a nice, solid, round number and you can get some great variety of coverage and finishes with that. Then I think, wait, 10? Is / will that be enough? 🤣 Those are some really good foundations in your collection; I don't really envy you having to pare that group down to 10.

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@itsfi I really think I only need one fuller coverage and then the rest can be a combination of different medium and light coverage products.  I'm thinking if I could keep it to 10 I may be able to use them before the SPF is shot?

Concealers are one of my favourite things to test out the last few years so I'm hoping... but not super realistic.  At least my store having a limited selection means that I can't test shades and so I'm more likely to hold off on purchases? Maybe?

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Yeah, I hear ya @missjeanie. I have a couple of foundations that hold themselves out as "medium" that I woud argue are actually full coverage, not medium-to-full, but full-full. I have more full coverage concealers than I do foundations.

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Back quicker than anticipated!  I saw how quickly I could do mists and figured I'd post right away.

Not in photos but still in my life...

-Dr Jart Cicapair Mist- I really enjoy the mister on this one and keep it at my desk in office.

- Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist 2.53 oz/ 75 mL  This is also at my desk in office.  I really enjoy the mister and the way the fragrance gives a nice mood boost.

- Tower 28 Beauty SOS Daily Hypochlorous Acid Spray for Breakouts & Redness 4 oz/ 120 mL This one lives in my bedside table.  I only realized I was missing one after the photo was take.

- Byoma mist.  This one lives in my truck.  It's snowing out.  I was not willing to go get it. I actually like this one and while I don't use it much these days, it must be close to empty because I really enjoyed having it in there on a hot summer day.

In use

Spoiler
The Rhode and Ole Henriksen are both newer to me over the last few months.  I quite like each and mostly use these two as a serum step in my routine.  That said, on no make up, work from home days both have been used as mists.
Peach and Lily is one that I do quite like.  I've used it off an on for 3 or 4 bottles at least.
Tower 28... This is a mini I keep refilling to have available in my travel bag.

Unopened

Spoiler
-The volition I believe I bought because it's called Screen Time and I tend to use a mist most often while I'm at work looking at a screen.
-Mac should probably be used up.  These are ... not new.
-The three others (P&L, Gucci, and T28) are all re purchases of products I've bought in the past and enjoyed.

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Fabulous collection, @missjeanie !! I loved the GR mist, nice to see it be a fave in someone else's collection. I used the Volition mist (or an earlier version) and liked it fine, but I'm not sure what it does for blue light (which at the time was what it was marketed for). I need to try the Rhode most soon

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@missjeanie  The Dr. Jart and Glow Recipe mists are favorites of mine! I've been curious to try the Olehenriksen mist ....... does it have good peach scent? 🍑

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@Shosh85 The peach sent on the OH is so nice!  It's about as strong as the Glow Recipe watermelon and I just love it.

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

I like this line up of mists @missjeanie❤️ Does the Dr. Jart Cicapair mist have a scent? I don't think I've ever tried it, not even tested it in store. 🤔

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@itsfi It's a very light herbal/spa like scent, but it's very light.  I can spray it in my office and not have anyone wonder what's going on!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Okay, I found more cleansers than I thought I had. I just tossed an empty into my bin this morning so this was perfect timing.

Will try to do other categories as time allows!

Opened and in use

Spoiler
-The Dermalogica sits in my shower and gets used maybe once a month or so.  I find that it can dry my skin out so I need to be careful.  It has been in use for quite a few years though and I'm actually impressed that the powder is still all powder.
- I use the YTTP Papaya scrubby cleanser a couple times a week and I quite enjoy it.  I believe this is my second or third bottle.
-The PTR cleanser is... fine.  I was just using it up as a mini in a travel bag.  I don't think I'd rush out to purchase, but it works.
-Anua is a newer brand for me and I have to say this mini has lead me to believe that I would buy a full size.
-Ma:nyo is also a new to me brand the last year.  I don't mind this cleansing balm.  It does get all my make up off and rinses fairly well.  That said, it has no scent.  Which to some is a plus, but I wish it smelled nice.
-Mini Farmacy and Peach and Lily are kept in two different travel bags for when I'm on the go.  I really enjoy both of these products.  I have bought full size and would again.

Full Size Unopened

Spoiler
-Farmacy Green Clean is a staple.  I believe this one came from a sale last spring, I buy these probably once a year or so.  I do miss seeing the fun fragranced ones though.
-I tried another Bubble cleanser that I just finished up and quite liked it so I'm curious to see how this one is.
-Tatcha... I should have looked closer at my inventory before Christmas because I just bought one of these.  Why are they in different packaging?  Is the one I had stashed away that old?
-The Philosopy Microdelivery face wash was a repeat purchase for me for years!  It still has HG status for me I think.  I buy one or so a year and quite like them.

The mini's

Spoiler
This section really shocked me.  I remember not that long ago looking through my minis trying to find one to pack for travel and coming up empty handed.  I am quite happy to try out most of these as I do like having a mini bottle for travel.  Yes, 3 of the YTTP Superfood may be excessive, but I really like these for summer days when I'm out at camp or on the boat and get sweaty.  They can be a bit drying if I try to use them in the winter, but on a hot sunny day they're quite nice for me and I'm happy to not lug around a large glass bottle when I have these minis.
The bottom 5 here I'm going to toss into my Friends and Family Feebies bin.  I'm just not interested and someone else will enjoy them.  Not the Bioderma.  That one stays!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Fabulous collection, @missjeanie !! I spy so many faves in there, the Farmacy balm, YTTP cleanser and Bioderma Michelle water!! Awesome also that you put some in your friends and family bin!!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@haleyvvvv I was shocked I had so many of the little guys!  I do get to travel a bit for work so they'll get used up but I guess my quest to acquire more over the last few months was more effective than I'd thought! I'm trying to remind myself that I'll have a bag of skincare in three other places over the summer so the extra bottles are quite nice to have on hand.

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Yes!! The smaller bottles are so useful for on the go/travel/the cottage, @missjeanie !!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

"... I found more cleansers than I thought I had."

I have a feeling I'll be saying that a lot @missjeanie and not just about cleansers. It's funny how things pop up after I've posted about something. 😂

Does the YTTP papaya cleanser smell like papaya?

Do you think the Dermalogica would be more gentle on your skin if you mixed it with a non-exfoliating cleansing oil or a cleansing oil that doesn't contain any actives?

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@itsfi Luckily cleansers are a category that I feel like I can move through fairly quickly so I'm not too worried about this group.

The YTTP is something that I initially would have said had no scent, but when I went and gave it a test there is a light one.  Maybe a bit of the ginger and I'm thinking vinegar? It certainly doesn't last and I never noticed it before now, so while it's not a nice scent, it's not horrible either.

I probably should have said the Dermalogica isn't harsh... but I find it can be drying.  I've been thinking about this one and used it again last night but on my neck and décolleté and I didn't have the same drying effect.  It's possible that it's too much while I'm trying to get back on a retinol for my face and it's winter when my skin is dry to start.  I'm going to pay a bit closer attention to this one.  And yes, I think I'll try mixing it in with an oil rather than just water. Excellent suggestion!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

It's funny how things just magically accumulate, isn't it? 😅 Great collection @missjeanie!
