Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

[EDIT-Updated to not limit to a year, legacy posts for all years.]

A few years ago I was inspired by a challenge on Instagram and we did a makeup inventory. ❄️December 2022 Challenge - 12 Days of Makeup Inventory - Show Off and Catalog Your Collection!!❄️

I was a little behind on planning this year (job interviews, life, not being able to login to the BIC), so I thought we could make this a yearly challenge for 2024+ and broaden it across all beauty categories.

Why participate?

  • I know I went back to my posts to find "dupes" for things that were limited edition (Melt Pumpkin King, in my case).
  • It's a good idea to look through your products every bit to review for quality and cleanliness.
  • Curation is important.
  • Knowing how much in your stash can help with your Low/No Buy or keeping an eye on your backups.
  • The fun of organizing your collection!!

Rules

Please no negative comments about the size or contents of others' collections, this is a place to celebrate our collections. Self-reflection is always welcome though 💖. Please don't take this as an impetus to declutter (unless you want to!).

I'm going to try to get a little contemplative with mine, to see if I would purchase again or not. But don't feel obligated to join that part!!

Timeline

  • January - Face Primers, Nail Polish
  • February - Foundations, Concealers, Cleansers and Mists
  • March - Bronzers and Contours (singles), Serums and Treatments
  • April - Blushes (singles), Moisturizer and Oils
  • May - Highlighters (singles), Sheet Masks
  • June - Face Palettes, Non-Sheet Masks, Tools (Brushes, etc.)
  • July - Eye Primers, Single Eyeshadows (free standing or in custom palettes), Body Cleansers, Body Scrubs, Body Lotion, Body Glitter
  • August - Eyeshadow Palettes, Shampoo, Conditioner
  • September - Brow Products, Eyeliners, Mascaras, Hair Treatments
  • October - Lip Balms, Lip Liners, Lip Glosses, Perfume Samples
  • November - Lipsticks, Travel Sized Perfumes
  • December - Setting Powders, Setting Sprays, Full Sized Perfumes and Body Sprays

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

I kinda gave up on foundation a while ago, because I just could never find one that was perfect for me. These days I'm mostly just wearing a little concealer. 😉

Concealers: (minus the Tarte Shape Tape that I forgot to pull out of my purse)

Mists:

Cleansers: (minus the TULA Skincare The Cult Classic Purifying Face Cleanser that's in my shower)

IMG_3100.jpeg

All of these were free with purchase and have not been opened. Honestly, I'm not too excited about trying out the cleansers on the top row.

I always have a bottle of Micellar water handy! I also should mention, this is probably the only time I've been without Green Clean! That's probably my HG cleansing balm, but I needed to use up some of the others first 😉IMG_3101.jpeg

👆Minis/deluxe sizes. All of these were free as well, thanks to Ulta's generous GWP's. I still don't have an HG, so this is definitely a great way to try and find one! So far my favorites are from CeraVe and La Roche-Posay 😉

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Fabulous collections, @Shosh85 !!

I've haven't been using my foundations a bunch lately, do I'd love to get to a smaller collection. So kudos there!! I bet that's a time saver in the routine.

The Dr. Jart mist looks so so good. Also on my mist list.

So many cleansers from GWP!! I hope you find your HG!!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Thanks so much @haleyvvvv! I have such a pile up of minis/DS from GWP's that I haven't bought many full size items lately! I could probably live on my minis for awhile 😃😅

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Ohhh, I spy some beauties here I've been wondering about @Shosh85. If you've have a chance to try the Winky Lux under eye concealer or Dore micellar water enough to form a solid opinion on them, do tell! if not, I shall wait paitently. 😉 In the meantime, are micellar waters something you use as a pre-cleanse step or is it your first cleanse? Or third cleanser?

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@itsfi  I haven't tried the Dore water yet, but the Winky Lux concealer is a top favorite of mine and have been using for a while now! It's creamy, medium coverage, hydrating, and doesn't crease or cake one me. It just feels super comfortable and gives a smooth and radiant finish. It also has Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E in it 😉👍

I have about 3 steps when washing my face. Due to my annoying allergies, my mascara and eyeliner are both waterproof - so the first step I do is go in with a cleansing balm or oil and get the majority of my makeup off. Then I rinse my face with a micellar water and after that I wash my face with a cleanser and washcloth. 🙂

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Our allergies must be related @Shosh85 because mine are also annoying and require the need of a 3-step cleansing system when they (allergies) even let met wear eye makeup. Our 3-step systems have a different order but the same idea.

I 💯 understand about waterproof mascara and eyeliner. I’ve found a couple of non-waterproof that can work for me but it has to be under the right circumstances - I’m not wearing mascara for a long period of time,  no allergies and it’s cold out with little to no humidity. So Antarctica in the winter might be an ideal landscape for longer term wear for non-waterproof mascara on these sparse lashes and oily lids, but I too much of a wimp and would not last long in that kind of  environment. 😂

I like hearing that you haven't had any issues with creasing with the Winky Lux concealer. That and it being a medium coverage makes for a good combo. Definitely keeping it in mind but I have a feeling I have a few concealers to work my way through first, lol.

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@Shosh85 So many great mini cleansers!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Thanks, @missjeanie! It's gotten a little outta hand! 😅

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@Shosh85 The out of hand may be why I love this photo.  They're just so tiny and cute!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Feb-

Foundations + Concealers. Not a big category for me. I have one concealer and it missed the photo op haha.

Feb Foundations.jpg

Mists- The May is an HG.  I'm not telling you how old that bottle is.

Feb Mists.jpg

Cleansers- This is not all my cleansers, but these are the ones I set aside for my Pan It! - 2026 Challenge

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Amazing collections, @Samtian !! Any of the foundations your fave? I'm excited to see your cleanser progress in the Project Pan thread!!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Ahhhh, that May Lindstrom 😍😍😍 @Samtian! lol, I had a sample of a ML mask that I had to toss last year because it dried up, errr, because it was so old that it dried up. 😞 It was just a sample size, but still. I'm intrigued that the mist is a HG for you. *adding it to my list. Is it heavily fragranced?

I zoned in on that cushion foundation and then had to tell myself to look away and remind myself that cushion foundations are not a category I need to expand, that foundations in general are probably not a category I need to expand upon. 🤣

I'm very interested to follow along to see how you end up ranking those Tatcha powder cleansers. They make cleaning your face such a luxe experience. 😊

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@itsfi Ooh I would be sad about throwing those masks away. This is the only product I have, I wanted more but the prices have gone up so much from when I got this one. It is very heavily fragranced.

I've already tried all the powder cleansers and nothing comes close to the classic. Even though the deeper one is more for my skin the classic is best.

This is the first cushion one i've tried. I enjoy it but it doesn't last long and I haven't found a primer that works with it either.

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@Samtian  Haha! Well, I'm not telling how old any of my things are either..... mostly because I have no idea 😂

Good luck using up those cleansers!

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@Shosh85 Haha thank you! One of the bad things about saving those emails...I'll always know lol.

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@Shosh85 @Samtian sometimes it's better not knowing how much of a classic our vintage items are. 😂

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@itsfi @Samtian ..... If it smells fine and looks fine, it's probably fine. 😉😂

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@Samtian ... The expiration date is when you're done with it ! 🙃🤣

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

@danielledanielle I like that haha.

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory

Hahaha! I totally agree! 😂 @danielledanielle

Re: Beauty Challenge -- Twelve Months of Beauty Inventory
