what's the best eyeshadow palette for a beginner?

I want to try getting into using eyeshadow and I was wondering if there were any palettes anyone could recommend. I don't have much experience with eyeshadow and there's just so many palettes to choose from, (it doesn't help that I'm highly indecisive). So I'm basically wondering what anyone could recommend specifically for me or your favourite palettes in general. I'm looking for a palette with a few neutrals (beige, rose, black) but also some bold pinks, blues and greens with the price range of $120.

Thank you!

Check out Too Faced, and see if you like the color stories in any of their palettes.  My friend is a beginner, and said she likes Too Faced shadows because they're not as intensely pigmented as many other brands, which makes it easier to still look presentable even if you kind of mess up.  (I'm actually not a fan of Too Faced shadows for exactly the same reason -- I like pigmented eyeshadows.)

When I started using eyeshadow I started with morphe palettes, now the palettes are very hit or miss but they are very inexpensive so you can play around with shades and techniques and not have to worry about breaking the bank.

But if you don’t want to take the risk of hit or miss palettes personally I like these:

Natasha Denona Bronze Eyeshadow Palette

#Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina® Pro Pigment Palette Vol. 4 (any vol. works well)

Urban Decay Born To Run Eyeshadow Palette 21 x 0.02 oz/ 0.80 g

I have many more but those are some!

good luck!

Anastasia Beverly Hills soft glam palette is absolutely beautiful and so easy to work with!

Lorac makes some of the best palettes imo! They have a really great creamy formula that is great for beginners

If you are able to find it, the UD born to run palette is fantastic. It has lots of colours that let ease into doing eyeshadow.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina® Pro Pigment Palette Vol. 5 Lilac

I'm going to go against the grain here and say, a beginner shouldn't spend big money on a palette till you know what shades work for you. Get a less expensive palette, like a brights palette from Profusion, and maybe one mid-range or higher end neutral palette, like tarte Tartelette™ In Bloom Clay Eyeshadow Palette 12 x 0.053 oz/ 1.5 g  or Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette , since neutrals are a staple, and you'll need them forever. These both have softer neutrals that blend with any look.

I'm deeply fond of tarte Fall Feels Eye & Cheek Palette though, it's a steal and has a great little assortment of neutrals & colors, and the blush is wonderful, though probably more of a matte highlight on deeper skintones. The blush also works as an eyeshadow ( I use it that way often).

There is one somewhat costy palette I consider a staple palette for me, that has some great neutrals and gorgeous brights: Dominique Cosmetics Berries & Cream. Not available here anymore but on DC site and lots of other places. DOMINIQUE COSMETICS Berries & Cream Eyeshadow Palette

Re: what's the best eyeshadow palette for a beginner?

I’d check out the Naked palettes from

urban decay @melikeee   —unfortunately the original is discontinued bjt Naked 3 has a range of neutrals. I’m racking my brain for others which have a great versatile color story for beginners (I tend to buy individual shadows lol). I would suggest going to a makeup counter, explaining that you’d like a versatile palette, the colors you like, & seeing the result. Don’t let any dodgy SAs try to upsell you—the best will sympathize with your needs & help (if they’re really great ask for their card).

i would steer clear of the UD Cherry, honey, etc spécialiséd color stories as they don’t seem what you’re looking for. However; I think asking advice & having a palette which catches your eye applied would really help you out in figuring what you like, need, & enjoy plus a bit of education as to technique. Hope that helps 🙂

I don't own Urban Decay Born To Run Eyeshadow Palette 21 x 0.02 oz/ 0.80 g , but wholly agree with@SportyGirly125 .  It has everything you're looking for and it can do so many looks

I also like Natasha Denona Metropolis Eyeshadow Palette 28 x 0.048 oz , it's a little above your price point, but it's a great palette with neutrals and bolds

tarte Tartelette™ Toasted Eyeshadow Palette

Mostly warm neutrals, but there's a good combo of matte and shimmers and it's price point is good.  There's also been great sales with this palette in the past, I think I got it at $10 off and one of the other tarte palettes at half price.

HUDA BEAUTY Rose Gold REMASTERED Eyeshadow Palette

Don't own this one because I have similar shades in other palettes, but it's got a great mix of shades.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette .  I think this is a really versatile one that is beginner friendly IMO. It can do neutral, smoky, soft glam and everyday.
