Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

I’ve been thinking of getting an eyeshadow primer but I’m not sure if it’s really worth it or not. I’d also like to know which one would be the best if I were to get one. Thanks in advance!

Re: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

It's a HUGE difference to me. The shadow goes on smoother and stays put with a primer.  I use Urban Decay.

Yeah do you???

Re: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

@alexloranger I find that an eyeshadow primer is needed. I find that it not only makes shadow colors pop but it also makes my shadow easier to blend. I love the

TOO FACED - Shadow Insurance Glitter Glue Glitter Bonding Eye Shadow Primer.

Best,

Rebecca

Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

Hi! I've been using Too Faced Shadow Insurance primer for a while now, and I love it. I have oily skin, and this primer prevents my makeup from creasing and smudging. Hope it helps!

Re: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

Hi @alexloranger ,

I do! I can't even wear eyeliner on my lids without it smudging within minutes without a primer. I have very oily lids so I gotta use it!

I have been using the Urban Decay Shadow Potion Primer for years.

Best Wishes,

Janean

Re: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

@alexloranger  For me it makes a huge difference. I remember beforehand my eyeshadow would almost be non existent after a day out. With primer I am able to wear it all day, go out all night and still look good and have the eyeshadow on. I use the MAC paintpottery

Re: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

@alexloranger I would say it depends on the shadow, for traditional powder shadow yes definitely! For me gel/ cream powder shadows also do better with a primer, but there's a less noticeable difference. For cream shadows, I would say there's no big need.

I really like SEPHORA COLLECTION - Beauty Amplifier Eye Shadow Primer. I've used (and liked) the Urban decay Primer potion and the Nars one and the Eyeshadow insurance (too faced?) and I would say that this one does every bit as well for like 1/2 the price

RE: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

Primer definitely makes the difference, it make more shadow stick on your eye lid so less fallout, it makes your shadow last all day, and it makes the colors more pigmented. I recommend Anastasia’s primer! I hope you find this helpful!<3

Re: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

@alexloranger Primer for eye shadow makes a huge difference for me.  The shadows lasts longer, and the colors are more vibrant.  I use TOO FACED - Shadow Insurance

and have been happy.  I used to use Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Original

but I find the TF does the job better.

Re: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

I definitely do! Eyeshadow tends to crease up for me without it. I also find that if I forget to apply it, applying eyeshadow isn't as easy/seamless.

Re: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

Absolutely for me! I have very oily eyelids. So when I would so eyeshadow or liner without primer, it would last maybe an hour? Two at the most. There would be nothing in my lids and any color left was collected in my crease. Not a good look. Once I started using primer it will last all day!

My go to is UD, which a few other folks have recommended. If you want a cheaper alternative, Milani eye primer is also very effective. I've recently started using MAC paint pot in painterly, which is good for priming and adding coverage for a blank canvas.

Re: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

Definitely yes - otherwise by the end of the day I have no eyeshadow left except in the crease of my eye (which is oily).  I have 2 favorites -Urban Decay Eden (different than the original) and Fenty Pro-Flter.

The UD is opaque, a little goes a long way. I like it because my veins show through my eyelids.

The Fenty is great for keeping on irridescent shades or shimmer.  It's sticky, so when applying shadow, pat it on, don't swipe. It also minimizes eyelid wrinkles.

Sometimes I do both, if my eyes are discolored from not sleeping well, I use the UD and then if I'm wearing a shimmer, I'll pat on the Fenty prior to the shimmer and just where I'm putting the shimmer.

Re: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

@alexloranger

As others have stated, lid primers make a HUGE difference. I couldn’t imagine doing my make up without a lid primer. My go to is TOO FACED - Shadow Insurance Glitter Glue Glitter Bonding Eye Shadow Primer

I like to use this one cause I don’t really know how I’m going to do my make up until my hand picks a palette. Better to be prepared for some shimmer/glitter! It makes the lid tacky so the shadow has something to stick adhere too.

Re: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

@alexloranger I use MAC prep and prime 24 hour eye base. If I don’t use a primer I will have my shadow not last all day and crease on me.

Re: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

NARS Pro-Prime™ Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Original

This is the only one I've tried, and it keeps the shadows from creasing on my hooded lids. From no-primer to primer, I do find shadows a bit harder to blend with a primer. To live life without the shadows settling into the crease is worth it.

RE: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

Hi love, I’ve brought a couple in the past and was not a fan nor worth buying and then I tried concealers which worked better for me personally:)

Re: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

@alexlorangerI agree with everything that @WinglessOne said. Eyeshadow primer is the only thing that keeps my shadows from creasing. Only difference is I personally use:
Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion Original

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Anti-Aging Standard Size - 0.33 oz/ 10 mL

because it has always works perfectly for me. UD has multiple formulas. I've only used the original and the aging, both work the same for me when it comes to keeping shadows in place.

Re: Do you guys notice a difference when using eyeshadow primer?

@alexloranger  I use eyeshadow primer for certain palettes and single shadows I know are prone to fallout or creasing. Primer helps keep shadows in place on my lids. This is especially important for me because I have hooded eyes.

There are some palettes/shadows I can use without primer, like Pat McGrath’s 6-pan La Vie En Rose palette. On my lids, those shadows stay in place for hours on their own. But I do need primer with Pat’s Bronze Temptation 6-pan.

Primer can also boost the pigmentation of shadows. For folks with darker skin tones like me, that’s important because so many shadows fail in the color payoff department.

My favorite primer is NARS Pro-Prime™ Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base Original It comes in white and various tints, and shadows blend easily over it. Sometimes I use SMASHBOX - 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer for shadows that tend to crease a lot; this primer makes it harder to blend shadows though, thanks to its grippy texture. Another option is TOO FACED - Shadow Insurance Glitter Glue Glitter Bonding Eye Shadow Primer which isn’t just for glitter. 🙂 It works well with all kinds of shadows.
