Best first eyeshadow palette?HELP

Hey I'm 16 and know how to do  eye makeup (I use an angled eyeliner brush in glitter colour pop super shock shadow and do a wing, with kind of a sunset-colored ombre eye) but I've only used singles, never bought an eyeshadow palette other than the drugstore (which all irritated my eyes) I really want to get one nice eyeshadow palette.. I want neutrals, blue, grey, pink, lavender, matte black, glitters and mattes. I wanted to too faced natural love or whatever it was called palette, but it discontinued before I could get my hands on it. So maybe just a really good neutral palette? Thank you! 🙂 I literally have no clue what to get haha

Hi @jeskayjam, I would recommend checking out and comparing Lorac Pro 1 vs. Lorac Pro 3. Those are the closest thing I can find online that has everything you want-- the black, the gray, purple tones are included in both (though not lavender), pink tones, mattes, and shimmers. You might also have a look at the first Ciate and Chloe Morello Palette-- that has a nice mix of warm browns and plummy pinks.  In terms of something similar to Natural Love within Too Faced's line, I think the closest thing would be Chocolate Bon Bons, since you seem to prefer cooler tones. One last option would be Marc Jacobs Glambition, which has pinks, browns, and a black. My money would be on Lorac for what you asked for though.

If you want a warm eye shadow palette i love the Too Faced Chocolate Palette, for a cooler toned eye shadow palette i would get the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye shadow palette. Something a little bit more pricey but really good for color and neutrals i would suggest the Viseart palettes. But if you want something cheap I would look a Morphe palette they aren't sold at Sephora but the are AMAZING.

Re: Best first eyeshadow palette?HELP

When you say they all irritated your eyes, did you mean that it made your eyelids itch/rashy or did it get into your eyes and make them red/irritated? I will share two things that happened to me to make my eyes irritated.

I had itchy lids, then my eyelids would get a bit dry, then rough and rashy.  It turned out to be an ingredient called bismuth oxychloride. Check the ingredient list on your products and if you can tolerate it, test an eyeshadow with and without this ingredient and see if you notice a difference. I tried patch tests on my arms but they don't work because my arm skin is pretty stable, where my eye skin is sensitive. A lot of eyeshadows, both drugstore and high end use that ingredient to give "slip" - helps them apply and blend better. Tin oxide is also an ingredient that some people are sensitive to as well as mica.

The other problem I've had is my eyes may get irritated, dry and sometimes feel like there is sand in them.  This happens when the shadow falls into my eyes.  Using a primer helps eye shadow stick better and making sure I used a flat brush and apply gently (instead of a fluffier brush back and forth blending) helped.  Eyeliners can also irritate my eyes, especially if they are to waxy or I put them too under my lashes close to the waterline - it seems to migrate into the waterline and from there into my eyes.

I think the Urban Decay neutral eye shadow palettes are good. You can start with one of the small basic ones and if you like them, then buy a bigger one.  But suggest going to a Sephora or Department store if you can and trying them out to see if they bother your eyes.

If all drugstore eyeshadows irritated your eyes, you should probably figure what ingredient is causing that before dishing out for an expensive palette. Drugstore eyeshadows share a lot of similar formulas with their higher end counterparts, so the expensive palette might irritate your eyes as well.

RE: Best first eyeshadow palette?HELP

personally i like urban decay naked3 and smoky palates. i gotta smoky palate a week ago and i love it. i was a little worried that i wouldn’t use all the colors but they all look good on me. i’m not the best at eyeshadow (when i started wearing makeup 2 years ago i was 13 and used eyeshadow sticks- now i cringe looking at old photos😂) but naked3 is honestly my favorite. it looks great for a basic daily makeup look or for something fancier. mine came with samples of ud eyeshadow primer which i LOVED. the smoky palate comes with a little pamphlet including some step by step instructions for smoky eyes. both come with brushes, which are amazingly soft and perfect. hope this helps!

i have two palettes that are my go-to; chocolate bar by too faced is my fav by far, applies and smells amazing! and sephora primal instincts palette has more of the shimmers and also applies beautifully. those two would be a good start as a base range and branch out from there.. good luck!
