Best Non-Foaming Cleanser?

My skin gets painfully, horribly dry in the fall and winter. This season, my face is so dry that I can't find a moisturizer to truely do its job and heal my skin! To compensate for the lack of moisture, my skin over-produces oil so ONE hour after I've applied makeup my skin is dewy -which is still ok, but looks AWFUL as the hours creep by. The over-production of oil has made me break out ALL over. However, acne cleansers are far too harsh, dry out my skin even more, and the vicious cycle continues.

Are there any non-foaming cleansers you'd suggest? My skin is such a mess right now! Thanks so much!!

I would recommend REN Hydra Calm Cleansing Milk (http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P174626&categoryId=B70 )

I got it because i have sensitive red skin and thought it would help. It hasn't really helped out with the redness, but my skin is usually dry as well and I'm absolutely loving it. I like it a lot better thatn Purity by Philosophy, which so many people rave about!  It smells nice too.

Hello Annavp,

I agree with Ran and Jill's suggestions. Using argan oil will be very beneficial for your dry skin. I also wanted to add that the Philosophy Purity Made Simple is another non-foaming cleanser that will remove all tracers of dirt, oil and make up.

You should also try Josie Maran Argan Oil Moisturizer- it might be the one product that actually heals and treats your dry skin.  Try using it at night so that your skin is supple and hydrated in the morning.  This way it is not too much when you apply your makeup (even though I use it under makeup all of the time).

You can even just try the small size for $14 at first- but I swear you will fall in love!

I really like REN's ClearCalm 3 Anti-Blemish Clay Cleanser. It doesn't foam and it's not a gel cleanser either. It's also gentle, but effective enough to not break me out. My skin is the same way: dry, but acne-prone. I've used 2 bottles of this stuff and I really like that it uses natural salicylic acid. I hope this helps and good luck!

Have you ever tried a cleansing oil?  Shu Uemura has to be my favorite among those (A/I for dry/sensitive skin).  It can be found at their official site or select Holt Renfrew stores in Canada.   Amore Pacific also has a cleansing oil (Treatment Cleansing Oil) which works well.  If you are more combo/dry, then possibly Josie Maran's Argan Cleansing Oil (I don't recommend this one for very dry skin).

Otherwise, look into a cleanser with more of a milky texture.

Hope that helps.

I wrote quite a long review about it on the product page a while ago.

Summary: It was a bit drying after use in comparison to other cleansing oils.  Would be great for someone who is more combo and not desert dry.

Hey Hall of famer,

I was wondering - why wouldn't you recommend the Argan cleansing oil for very dry skin?
