Applying night cream twice?

Hello!

I'm wondering if anyone finds the need to apply their night moisturizer twice like I do.  I am new to dry skin, I have always been oily (was on prescription oil control/acne medications for most of my life), but normalized and then turned drier as I got older.   I am a makeup junkie and have a squijillion skincare products, but my face seems to feel dehydrated and tight by morning regardless of what product I use.  I have even re-applied additional night moisturizer in the middle of the night if I get up to use the bathroom.

After cleansing I use an essence, then serum, then my night moisturizer. I use an exfoliator once to twice weekly.  I tried several facial oils as well, but they don't seem to work well for me like they do for others, I feel they don't really absorb and just sit on my skin resulting in small whiteheads.  A traditional cream seems to work the best for me, but the moisturizing properties never seem to last through the night.

Does anyone else have this problem, and how do you combat it?

Thanks!

Karlie  🙂

Re: Applying night cream twice?

YES Karlie! I am so new to dry skin this season and have been taking pills for my mild acne but recently found myself needing to put on moisturizer or Aloe vera on at least 3 times a day... I am loving the Origins matte moisturizer with Willowherb right now!

Lifetime dry skin friend here, your moisturizer probably...

Lifetime dry skin friend here, your moisturizer probably doesn't haveenough occlusive properties to hold the moisture in. An occlusive can bemoisturising but its primary function is to be a great a barrier between your the moisture in your skin and the air. Getting the right occlusive is the trick, and sometimes it means finding one moisturizerthat has both properties built in, and sometimes it means using a lovely skin care moisturiser, and then another boring plain Jane on top. I use one containing dimethicone (moisturel) with no issues, but before anyonejumps on the \\\"evil silicone\\\" train, I've used it for years and to no ill effects (I actually have awesome skin), and I don't subscribe to \\\"only natural is best\\\" as a blanket rule. I do recommend you thoroughly understand any occlusive product before trying it out (for example, a natural one, lanolin - I am wildly allergic to it - like EpiPen and hospital allergic). But if you're that parched in between, you probably need a barrier.

RE: Applying night cream twice?

Sleeping mask is a good idea for you. On extra dry days I use Shiseido or Glamglow hydrating mask.

RE: Applying night cream twice?

I’ve been known to do this with products aimed at wrinkles, not necessarily to deal with dry skin. Its not that I really need it...I guess its wishful thinking that more product will eliminate linesquicker. Ha! As far as your dry skin is concerned, what products are you currently using? Maybe you need to try new more effective products and different products for daytime and nighttime use.
