Which Black-owned beauty and wellness brands do you want to see at Sephora? [Updated 9/20/22]

[[UPDATE 9/20/22: Let's take a moment to celebrate our latest brand spotlight on our Black-Owned Beauty Guide, Briogeo! While not a new brand to Sephora, Briogeo from founder Nancy Twine is a clean beauty favorite that always brings something new and interesting to the hair game. Nancy Twine is on a mission to deliver clean, mindfully formulated products for ALL hair types and textures. Learn more about the brand and its suite of products on our Black-Owned-Beauty Guide, and read the latest updates on the steps Sephora is taking to champion diversity and inclusion beyond the 15 Percent Pledge: https://www.sephora.com/beauty/belong]]

We recognize how important it is to represent Black businesses and communities, and we must do better.

You may have seen in Summer 2020 that Sephora partnered with designer Aurora James to take the 15% Pledge. The 15% Pledge is James’ nonprofit calling on retailers (like Sephora) to dedicate 15% of shelf space to Black-owned brands. Why 15%? As explained on the 15% Pledge website, “Black people in the U.S. make up nearly 15% of the population. So, we are calling on major retailers to commit a minimum of 15% of their shelf to Black-owned businesses.” We are so excited to be the first retailer to take the pledge and are looking forward to seeing others join us in the 15% Pledge. Next, we want to hear from you!*

Which Black-owned beauty and wellness brands do you want to see at Sephora? Be sure to let us know your favorite product(s), what makes this brand unique, etc.

Thank you in advance for your guidance and support. We look forward to learning from you!

*We will not be able to guarantee these brands join our Sephora brand roster, but we value your expertise as individual beauty lovers who shop outside of Sephora and our brands. Black-owned brands interested in partnering with Sephora can apply through RangeMe.

Re: Which Black-owned beauty and wellness brands do you want to see at Sephora? [Updated 9/20/22]

@SephoraBIC Briogeo was bought out by a corporation (I think Goldman Sachs?) & is no longer Black-owned. It seems disingenuous to be claiming that a brand is Black-Owned while it is not.

My girlies and I cannot live without Bésame Cosmetics lipsticks. Funny enough, I heard about the brand through Sephora many years ago. But they’re no longer sold here, not sure why…

Re: Which Black-owned beauty and wellness brands do you want to see at Sephora? [Updated 9/20/22]

@nexo Bésame cosmetics is owned by Gabriela Hernandez, a Latina. It is not Black-owned. Also from my understanding, Bésame was in Sephora for a limited time years ago (like 2016/2017?). I don't know why it was there for a limited time nor if it will ever come back.

Caramel Swatches doesn’t sell makeup, but I would love a partnership to provide a standardized swatching arm. That could be revolutionary. It can be hard to gauge models’ skintones for shade comparison given each brand uses various models in different lighting conditions. Having one consistent arm for swatching allows people a fixed basis of comparison. People have given feedback that this method has really helped them learn their own undertones as well. Having a standardized arm swatch model for each shade range woulf be amazing! Caramel Swatches, as the name suggests, swatches on tan (aka medium-deep) skin. You can check out a searchable directory of the swatches done to date, with links back to the Sephora site for most products carried at Sephora, on

I would love to see DRMTLGY medical-grade skincare carried by Sephora! Their products have been all the talk in the skincare space and I'd love to see them reach a bigger customer base. I'm not 100% certain if they are black-owned, but they have 2 black women on their dermatology advisory board.

I would like to see “Shandelier Luxe Lashes” by (IG) @seankbeauty at Sephora. Shandelier Lashes provide an array of glamorous and elegant sets of cruelty free lashes that are available in various lash styles catering to both naturalists and fashionistas.

Re: Which Black-owned beauty and wellness brands do you want to see at Sephora? [Updated 4/8/22]

I’d be so happy when I see @seankbeauty at Sephora. I love Shandelier Lashes. I’ve been wearing their lashes for over 5 years. It’s luxe, full, and light. I use it over and over because it’s looks the same even after few wears.
