Which Black-owned beauty and wellness brands do you want to see at Sephora? [Updated 4/8/22]

[[UPDATE 4/8: Currently featured on our Black-Owned Beauty Guide: new brand spotlight CAY SKIN, from supermodel and activist Winnie Harlow! Learn more about the brand – designed for everyone under the sun - on our Black-Owned-Beauty Guide, and read the latest updates on the steps Sephora is taking to champion diversity and inclusion beyond the 15 Percent Pledge: https://www.sephora.com/beauty/belong]]

We recognize how important it is to represent Black businesses and communities, and we must do better.

You may have seen in Summer 2020 that Sephora partnered with designer Aurora James to take the 15% Pledge. The 15% Pledge is James’ nonprofit calling on retailers (like Sephora) to dedicate 15% of shelf space to Black-owned brands. Why 15%? As explained on the 15% Pledge website, “Black people in the U.S. make up nearly 15% of the population. So, we are calling on major retailers to commit a minimum of 15% of their shelf to Black-owned businesses.” We are so excited to be the first retailer to take the pledge and are looking forward to seeing others join us in the 15% Pledge. Next, we want to hear from you!*

Which Black-owned beauty and wellness brands do you want to see at Sephora? Be sure to let us know your favorite product(s), what makes this brand unique, etc.

Thank you in advance for your guidance and support. We look forward to learning from you!

*We will not be able to guarantee these brands join our Sephora brand roster, but we value your expertise as individual beauty lovers who shop outside of Sephora and our brands. Black-owned brands interested in partnering with Sephora can apply through RangeMe.

I would like to see and purchase Raw Beauty Skin Care line and Paradise Naturals Hair Care line containing luxurious exotic oils that are healing, refreshing and restorative to hair and skin.  Many of the products can be applied to hair and skin.

I would love to see Skin by Brownlee & Co. She has a top notch product line as well as an app. She deserves to be on the shelves of Sephora.

I would like to see AJ Crimson and Mented added to the Sephora line up.  Additionally, I would like to see more Black owned brands available for IN STORE purchase. For example, I am interested in the fragrance highlighted for BHM but I have no idea what it smells like.  Personally, I don’t like buying products because you never know if it’s going to work out and I don’t want to be bothered with returns.

This month, we’re spotlighting two Black-Owned brands on our Black-Owned Beauty Guide: Melanin Haircare and 54 Thrones! Shout out to Community members @MsFashionista92, @BatuqueOnda, @tasha1973@LAM78@Cubandiva31@calmcura@Lorijane1973@Ronnii@ZebraElle@HazelEyedQueen who all mentioned one or both of these brands in this thread previously!

Melanin Haircare, created by Whitney White, is rooted in passion for high-quality, natural hair and scalp care. Melanin Haircare has fragrance-free, family-friendly, and unisex hair products that are created specifically to treat coily, curly, frizzy, and wavy hair.

54 Thrones is a clean beauty brand inspired by the richness, diversity, and cultures of Africa and its people. The brand’s founder Christina Funke Tegbe is passionate about creating a brand that is truly authentic, using only natural ingredients that are grown on African soil and inspired by ancient African beauty traditions.

ROSEN Skincare. Started by a young adult to provide a "clean", affordable skincare that treats acne & acne scarring. Available in American Nordstroms, Targets, and select boutiques/beauty salons across US & Canada (and Urban Outfitters). I would love to try it but the nearest boutique/salon that has it doesn't have all the products (and the products available are out-of-stock).
