@McSwagger Not only do I wear sunscreen each day my skin's exposed to sunlight (ALL exposed skin: eyelids, ears, behind ears, nape of neck if exposed, hands, wrists, ankles, feet, etc.), all year long, regardless of weather or season, I reapply it every couple hours. It's one important form of protection against skin cancer and less serious types of skin damage—and folks need to realize how much deeper skin tone damage is misdiagnosed or not diagnosed at all in the US (because there's still not enough standard medical training on how to recognize various skin conditions on brown skin). Wear the hecking sunscreen.
These are my current warm weather* rotation facial sunscreens. I don’t recommend having this many open at once (sunscreens do expire); eh, I like to have options. Many, many options. 😂 Plus, I'm always testing new-to-me sunscreens so I can make better product recommendations to folks.
US sunscreens:
- Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen Invisible Broad Spectrum SPF 40 PA +++ - good ol’ reliable. This is the one I travel with.
- Trader Joe’s Daily Facial Sunscreen SPF 40 - thicker and greasier than Unseen Sunscreen but still a great option at a far lower price.
- Bondi Sands SPF 50 Fragrance Free Sunscreen Lotion (body version) - I use this on my face and body.
- Native Unscented Mineral Face Sunscreen SPF 30 - one of my favorite mineral sunscreens. Leaves a barely visible white cast that's easily masked with a sheer layer of powder foundation.
- Dermstore Collection Daily Sheer Tint Mineral Sunscreen SPF 40 - my other favorite mineral sunscreen. This one’s undetectable on my skin tone, thanks to the tint.
European and Asian sunscreens that contain newer and better UV filters than we can get in the US:
- La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 Hydrating Cream Fragrance-Free SPF50+ - my current favorite to use around my eyes (including my eyelids) because it doesn’t seep into my eyeballs or cause stinging/burning. LRP has reformulated and rebranded this sunscreen since I last ordered it from Europe. I need to track down the latest version and test it.
- Skin1004 Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum SPF 50 PA++++ - can leave a slight white cast thanks to its tinosorb content (a UV filter unavailable in US sunscreens) if I don’t apply in several thin layers. I like this sunscreen a lot though, and it gets bonus points for containing centella asiatica, one of my skin’s best anti-inflammation friends.
- Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun Rice + Probiotic SPF 50+ - another one that can leave a slight white cast. Not a bad sunscreen at all but I prefer the Skin1004— so once I use up this tube, I won’t repurchase.
- Abib Quick Sunstick Protection Bar SPF 50+ - my on-the-go reapplication sunscreen when I don’t carry a tube of Unseen Sunscreen in my bag.
- Verdio UV Moisture Gel SPF 50+ PA++++ - currently testing this hybrid sunscreen with high hopes, but it pills on me. 😒 I’ve used it on my face just twice so far and I’m trying to figure out what’s causing the pilling (could be one of my other AM skincare products, especially since it doesn't seem to pill on my arms), so I’m not ready to call this one done yet.
*In addition to a couple of the above, I use a few other sunscreens in cold weather, especially thicker greasier sunscreens that give me glass skin in the frigid depths of Chicago winter. Those include Eucerin Age Defense Face Sunscreen SPF 50, CoTZ Sensitive Non-Tinted SPF 40 (the only mineral sunscreen in my current rotation that’s 100% invisible on my skin), and Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV SPF 50+ (clear version).
