How to use a lighter lip shade on dark lips

So I bought one of the Sephora lip favourites last year. There were two lips glosses, one from Patrick Ta and the other from Fenty. Both are light golden shades that look very washed on me. But I bought them and I don't want to waste them. None of my friends have pale enough lips. Anyone know how to make those kind of colors work on darker lips?

@Yumziee You can apply them over a lipstick as a topper or on top of another gloss but in the center of the lips
