in store account not linked to my email

I have an issue where I provide my phone number in store and there is no email linked to this. I called sephora customer service and they say there is no account under my phone number!!! How can this be accurate is there 2 different systems? My account is so old its when you signed up with just a phone number and they gave you a card to scan. This last trip I asked for an email receipt but turns out this went to limbo because it never came.
