Unsuccessful Authorization

Hello, I placed an order a few days ago and it went through just fine but when I placed one today, the order got cancelled due to unsuccessful authorization. What does that even mean and why didn’t it happen before?? Can someone please help, this is so unnecessary and inconvenient!
