Gift was return but it was done through my account

I gifted a friend a gift for her birthday, due to covid i mailed her the gift and indicated it is a gift. 

Two weeks later -- today, i received an email from sephora through my account saying i returned the item and the points were deducted from my account, while I'm at work. 

I understand and can guess my friend returned it and got a store credit as per the email receipt, however what surprised me is that she can do it under my account and now i got the points deducted as well. It was at least good that i purchased it at full price and didnt get it during a sale so my friend at least know i got a full price item since she can find out how much i paid for it. 

I called customer service and they said they cant do anything about it except to contact the store and file a complaint to the store, as my friend was able to give my name and email address, the staff at the store wouldnt know who is standing in front of them and just completed the return under my account thinking it is me. 

With that being said, if i know anyone's name and email address and just so happened to know what they bought through whatever means, it seems i can just return the item under that person's account as per what ive been told and get a store credit without hurting my own points and also being able to earn more points with the store credit. Also i would be able to find out how much my gift was purchaded at (if let say it was purchased during a sale). 

• Would be happy to know what is the actual policy for when a friend make a return on a gift, please and thank you.
