Gift Receipt Return - help!

I received a palette as a gift and they gave me the gift receipt - however when I returned it, I was given a card for store credit which really bummed me out because I've been ordering my skin care online because it's not in my local store. Is this policy? Even though I had the receipt?

I am very sorry about that! The store may give you a store merchandise card if they are unable to refund you in the original form of payment. The store merchandise card can only be used in the store and cannot be used online. I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused and I hope this clarifies.
