$0 balance on unused gift cards

I have two virtual gift cards in my Apple wallet - one for $40, one $50 - that I’ve never used and received directly from Sephora (via email, so not skimmed in store). Both were purchased directly from Sephora and are showing a balance of $0 when I try to make a purchase. I can see from other posts that this is a major issue for others as well. I reached out to customer service, but they just told me how to check my balance (which I’d already done) and were otherwise no help.

Has anyone had any luck with this? I would really appreciate any advice!
